  • Removing a crank bolt isn't such a big problem, but what options do you have to securely tighten a loose crank pulley?

      Glad you're back on the road. What method did you guys use to fix it?

      Nice! I saved about $200 that the dealership had quoted me (to turn a bolt!), when I used the clutch tool.
      Did the bolts you used with your clutch tool bend as well?

    At 28.28 you say impact hammers while turning. But the "hammering" is done along the bolt axis in the clockwise direction, not forward and back like you're demonstrating.
    Also, love your in-depth videos. Really helping me out with a few issues I have in my Y34.

    • @EdBwoy

      Thank you, sirwarrior sir, I am glad these videos serve a useful purpose in the community.
      That tip about impacts is just one of those fair warning tips. A conflict of *what the tool was designed to do* versus *what the tool ended up doing with a human exerting axial force behind it* . An impact could end up galling the threads, more so if the pulley bolt has already spun out once.
      One of my learnings from a mini-course on industrial fasteners. For most people, I suppose the resultant axial motion of the driven bolt wouldn't cause any harm, but as you've seen from my videos, I share as many methods and warnings as possible.

    great video, really helped helped with mt pulley coming loose twice now. what is the proper torque spec for the bolt

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what happened to my original response. The manual says 65-72 ft-lbs, then another 90 degrees.
      I do that as a minimum. Once the pulley has flown off, these numbers become sort of "best guess"

    cool video but im going to give you a tip if you take a crowbar and put it in the screw crankshaft screw and you lock the crowbar whit the floor o chase and you just click the starer and the bolt will came out loose

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tightening the bolt is where the problem comes. If you don't do it right, it will come loose again.

      And there hard to find here in bakersfield CA there is a white 03 m45 for 5k with 150.000 miles. I was asking because i wanted to know if travaling would be worth it for a 08 m45 and i can afford both by the way.

      @@JoseMartinez-om6vh where you are, which one is hard to find, the 03 or the 08+, or both?
      And how much are they asking for the 08 you've seen? If the price is right and features good, I'd travel for it,
      I love the 03, and the $5,000 price isn't all that bad, but in case you ever think of selling it, it's hard to move them at such a price.
      Again, if the costs make sense, I'd get an 08 (or any 06-10 really). The long term maintenance costs will be cheaper, with more aftermarket options.
