I do ride it occasionally, and have done so since I purchased it in 1990. I even raced it on the Pewter Run a few years ago and won first place overall.
Lovely to see, same model my father owned from 1928 to 1934 in U.K, have put a photo on John Macdonalds Harley website of my father A.L.Raven and family on board
I saw one of these for sale at the AMA Vintage Days in Mid-Ohio this year. It was clean and shiny! They wanted $24,000. Oh how I wish I had 24k... Lovely bike my friend.
That smoke is what you'd expect. Oil seeps in by gravity and collects to be burnt off on start up. Only ones that don't do it quite so much are oil sump motors like Panthers and Enfields and even they get a bunch of oil down the guides.
Just a tip, drain the engie case of oil before you start. This happends often after the bike has been standing unused for a while, the oil pump leaks oil into the the case. I have a valve instead of a plug to drain the engine to avoid this heavy smoking. Else i must say you have a real nice piece of bike ther, i wish you many miles on the road with it.
I may be wrong but these early bikes had constant loss oil systems, they were designed to mark their spot, the motor company did not apply recirculated oil systems until much later...
i have been smelling that same smell for the last week...purchased, started and rode a family 47 indian this week...sorting out a charging issue but other than that it rides pretty nice
This is one of those bikes you don't want to restore. It's great just as is. Although I'll say it does need some engine work. There's WAY too much smoke coming out of that exhaust.
This bike has a total loss oiling system. There's no defending the 15 years of the shovel heads that leaked bad in the 60's and 70's. But the Knucklehead, Panhead, Evolution, Revolution and now the Milwaukee 8's are truly well engineered and built motors. The evolution and revolution engines and transmissions are literally bulletproof.
This is an F - Head engine... overhead intake valve, but exhaust valve in the block half flat head, half OHV. I believe these have a constant loss oil system... so they are supposed to dribble lube oil. No reason not to repair the muffler.. you can do it from the inside and it wont show.
You know, when I had an 01 Heritage Soft Tail I felt like I was riding around on 100 year old technology. Mine hadn't developed an oil leak yet but, it only had a few hundred miles on it when I sold it.
Well, the old girl celebrates her 100th birthday this year, do you still have her? For those unfamiliar with J-models, they have a total loss oiling system, and you would need to top up the oil and grease the inlet rockers just about every time you fill up the fuel.
how much this thing worth now, suppose i want to buy it how much would you sell it for? $ dont want to buy it for real just want to have an idea of what it worth ;) thx
That is so cool!!! Great video! I have a question, I rebuilt an 83 Virago 920 it fires up and runs well but when it heats up it starts to smoke a light gray smoke as your bike is showing in this video. Do you know what the problem could be?
I'd make this my daily driver. Rings may be wore out, letting oil past the pistons. Try maybe a 4 cylinder can of "Engine Restore" and use only half, in the gas tank, or maybe some "No Smoke" (I'm kinda not so swift on that though), and braze the holes in your exhaust with acetyln torch. Otherwise, don't restore her, you'd destroy this barn find beauty.
Old Brit Triumphs mark their spot also...LOL. Beauty of a bike...you are a lucky guy.
The response when you gave it some gas was quick, fast then most I have heard. Thanks
You have great taste in old bikes.
A very beautiful machine, thanks for sharing it with us mister!
thanks for sharing a great piece of history
Real amazing how much like a modern Harley that old thing sounds.
I do ride it occasionally, and have done so since I purchased it in 1990. I even raced it on the Pewter Run a few years ago and won first place overall.
If it's leaking oil then you know it has oil in it. Only worry when it stops leaking.
Lovely to see, same model my father owned from 1928 to 1934 in U.K, have put a photo on John Macdonalds Harley website of my father A.L.Raven and family on board
It's just a matter of time until another old Harley happens by there, smells the oil spot and then leaves one there too. They do that you know.
Ride it! Those cylinders need air circulating around them.
Well, there you go, it's all true! Old turds never die, they just get stinkier!
Amazing machine!
Superb!! Especially as it looks so original.
What a cool machine. Respect that, man!!
I saw one of these for sale at the AMA Vintage Days in Mid-Ohio this year. It was clean and shiny! They wanted $24,000. Oh how I wish I had 24k... Lovely bike my friend.
Always like how old engines run like A Sewing Machine...

Got to Love the sound of that Flathead.!
ow man such a fantastic bike , you're pretty lucky
That looks pretty original. Nice.

That is worth a bit...keep new oil in it is a good idea, not just fuel...its a piece of history there..perth australia
Thanks. It is pretty cool to fire i up and ride it around.
THAT IS DAMN OLD STREET GLIDE. GOOD LUCK, MANY MILES. ;)
1924 The same year my Mom was born. I would call her "Smokin Jean" :D
Sorry, no idea. Mine is smoking so much because there was too much oil in the sump from sitting so long.
I may be wrong but these early bikes had constant loss oil systems, they were designed to mark their spot, the motor company did not apply recirculated oil systems until much later...
i have been smelling that same smell for the last week...purchased, started and rode a family 47 indian this week...sorting out a charging issue but other than that it rides pretty nice
many modern bikes dont idle that good!! lol sweet bike!
Very impressive!! Awesome bike.
This is one of those bikes you don't want to restore. It's great just as is. Although I'll say it does need some engine work. There's WAY too much smoke coming out of that exhaust.
Looks like even the Harley's back then marked their spot just like the Harley's of today.

You're cooking the poor old thing!
Hes not its were the engine hasn't been started in years so it smokes to warm it up my pocket bike did the same thing but it didnt blow the engine😉
Bash full line 421 as heazy has been sitting my bad
it hassnt its just smoking it does that
+Dave Jarvis Bit cooking it, geting it up to operating temperature. Designed to do this with no damage.
it wont damage it they do that the engine hasnt been started in like when it was new but it smokes like shit and it will stop
This is an F - Head engine... overhead intake valve, but exhaust valve in the block

Dripper oiling system and non-recirculating. Total loss oiling.
Thanks. Pretty cool all in all.
You know, when I had an 01 Heritage Soft Tail I felt like I was riding around on 100 year old technology. Mine hadn't developed an oil leak yet but, it only had a few hundred miles on it when I sold it.
man that rear tire has quit the wobble.
Well, the old girl celebrates her 100th birthday this year, do you still have her?

piece of art
That is incredible
I wish I get to ride an antique harley someday
how much this thing worth now, suppose i want to buy it how much would you sell it for? $ dont want to buy it for real just want to have an idea of what it worth ;) thx

このマシンは一体どこから白煙を出しているのでしょうか!?
フロントにブレーキは付いていますか?

I ride it occasionally to keep fluids moving around.
'old girl is a stunner
Why overhaul it when it runs so well now?
Awesome!
did this model come with ABS
+jizpillow No.
lol nice bike man , shes a keeper
Yes and launch controll 😁
😂😂😂
It's a 1924 no ABS dumbass :)
Yes, you might be right. Or it could also be all the oil that drained down into the sump.
That is so cool!!! Great video! I have a question, I rebuilt an 83 Virago 920 it fires up and runs well but when it heats up it starts to smoke a light gray smoke as your bike is showing in this video. Do you know what the problem could be?
That was state of the art of riding back when she was Made .She got more go than my Mrs ?
That's Badass!
I wish I had one :(
I want this bike
Rare!!! very nice after all this time son of a gun still wants to go
sweet i love it very very nice
It looks like there is oil leaking into the combustion chamber you may have a broken piston ring.
Do you drive it much? If I had it I would have to put it on the road at least once a month. Great bike keep them living.
i couldnt get my 1992 outboard to start after sitting 4 months winter storage
Thanks.
Sounds like my Harley. Guess not much has changed since then
Is that a joke? The newer harleys sound beautiful
burning the midnight oil?
"she makes her spot" haha
Merci.
Nice!
nice ,thanks for doing this . are you running ethanol free gas in there
Regular pump gas with a little Marvel Mystery oil mixed in.
Gear And Gun that's why she is smoking
Beyond bad ass.
Thanks. But not for sale. I bought this bike out of a basement in 1990 and have no interest in selling it.
Why don't you restore it ?
So 1924 wasn't a total loss oil system ..? .. That doesn't just look like residual oil burning off..?
look like it's about to explode :D
Quick, type HESOYAM!
The solidified oil may be why it is smoking to death !!!
battery? didnt think bikes back then needed one
Yes, battery and pints ignition.
sweet!
fantastic....lemme know when you want ot trade for it
FOR SALE?
How much is this worth, Sr?
SWEET....
great

Muto nate apo ni..tubik asap koksir...takut kawe kelih
Holy smoke... :)
Get on and Go !
linnnndaaaa
Love....u...Good..
Hermosa ,me gustaría tener una.chile .
Ride it!!!
In old bikes like that you need to make sure you put leaded fuel in it or you'll kill the engine that's probly why it's smoking
Lead fuel was to lube the valve seats, correct?
+MyNameIsMud I'm honestly not to sure I just learned in history class about it but I do know that it explodes differently
Lead is for the valve seats, which are fine. The smoke was from too much oil in the sump.
ya gotta exercise those old bikes regurlarly
Wow
At least Set up a fan next to the motor if your gonna let it idle
sale to me i ned this bike
