December 1974, South Philadelphia's Spectrum Theater, "Yes", the "Relayer" tour.
It took me 2 years till 1976, and some 30 concerts later to realize that very few bands are as great, "live", as the mighty, "Yes".
A very, VERY, underrated tour with Patrick Moraz manning the keyboard duties.
Near perfection with the lighting, staging and sound.
"To Be Over", was definitely the highlight for me that night. The only time I have ever seen and heard this song performed live by Yes.
So glad I had a chance to see them in 1974 and 1976 with the Roger Dean influenced, "Crab Nebula" staging.
I always thought it really added a spacy but also an altogether cool "cosmic element" to the entire evenings atmosphere.
Seen this band 14 times, they have never disappointed me, even with their revolving door of talented band members.

I still believe Relayer is Alan White's best. This song is outstanding, beautiful, and explosive in parts. The entire album is excellent! I saw this tour at the Richfield Coleseum (near Cleveland) in 1976 (I think) . . . Actually met Anderson, Squire and White in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn prior to the concert. A buddy of mine and I saw a Limo and followed it. Sure enough, they got out and hit the bar. Squire was a tall dude. They scribbled their autographs on a scrap of paper, which my mother threw away (it did look like doctor's signatures on a scrap of paper - really couldn't blame her). Anyway, nice review. Love seeing the amazement, joy and peace on your face when you do these Yes reactions.

This song is an epic by Yes. I really liked it from day one in late 1974 and still do, not knowing what would follow. To me in retrospect this was the book-end song of the the classic Yes era that started with "The Yes Album'. That classic era was studded with amazing masterpieces. Those long, complex, sonic journeys, so uplifting and emotional. Those albums including Relayer stand so very tall in prog and music even 50 years later. Maybe this was a message that they were going to change because for sure the classic era was "to be over" after this. But we did not know that at the time.

In the '70s, I had a cosmic concurrence involving this song and death...or being over, and done. Ever since then I see it as a song about dying...same as Close to the Edge, and Awaken. One of their very best.

The Pedal Steel, Slide, Acoustic, Electric, Lute, and anything with strings, Steve Howe IS The Maestro. He is why I started playing 50 years ago. If you like His playing
He has several albums with a wide variety of instrumentals. Homebrew, Not Necessarily Acoustic, and others. Not many reactors doing that type of thing,
I am not sure how it would be received, but I am hugely biased. 😁 There is an outstanding video of Starship Trooper Live Performance th-cam.com/video/y3AQXtqY0Es/w-d-xo.html that will blow you away as well. You could always do the entire "Royal Scam" album by Steely Dan, for a whole other experience.

I love To Be Over. For me, not every Yes song has to be a rocker. My favorite album ever is Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow (which has to be done by album side, if not the entire album at once should you consider reacting to it), and that is a very mellow, ambient like album with lyrics.
Regarding the "single," Soon. That's the end of Gates of Delirium, which you heard.
I personally know very little by Patrick Moraz, other than Relayer, his solo album The Story of I (which I quite enjoy), and his work with The Moody Blues. I recently learned there are two albums by Moraz and Bill Bruford, released under the name Moraz Bruford. Perhaps a first listen to those along with you would be nice. I know @Lightmane recommends them both.

    • @apocketfulofheep

Soon is just the slow and soft ending to The Gates Of Delirium and the only reason that was made into a single is because fm radio needed something short by Yes to air. Yes is planning on touring all of Relayer next year in the states and they haven’t played Sound Chaser nor To Be Over since 1975.
I would request you continue on in reverse and play Sound Chaser and then The Gates Of Delirium. Please don’t bother playing Soon as it’s not necessary.

The ending to this song is one of my favorite moments from Yes. The earlier parts of the song have a lot of good moments, but I'm not sure they hang together as well as I'd like. Like on Tales from Topographic Oceans, I feel like they weren't putting quite as much effort into structure as they did earlier.
