Our community in Toronto area is under wrong impression that Calgary is much colder but winter months (December to February) temperature average is same (0 degree Celsius) in Calgary and Toronto. Calgary gets about same amount of snow as Toronto although it is more spread out as Calgary is closer to mountains but we have warm chinook winds which melts snow frequently in winters. I have been to Toronto in winter and temperature was around 0 to minus 3 degrees but I felt much colder than Calgary as Calgary winters are dry and you don’t feel that cold at that temperature. Another fact is that Calgary is Canada’s sunniest city. Home prices vary in city, North West and South West Calgary is generally more expensive than North East and South East Calgary.

Crime rate is comparatively lower than other major Canadian cities. Thanks to oil & gas sector’s rise, job situation is better and city is diversifying its economy in other sectors such as IT. Alberta is the only Canadian province that doesn’t have provincial sales tax.
Calgary is a nice place, I moved from Malton to Calgary last month, left my job with ttc for city of Calgary, it’s a nice place and it’s quite peaceful, it’s growing and there are lot of jobs in yyc as well but you need reference to get in there , housing is affordable, NE is best if you have language issues

I guess comparison should not be done.. 2 different places and for sure not fit for all. Life in GTA is a Highway life. From point A to B take too much of traffic time, whereas Calgary is very quick. Large number of Food joints in GTA and are lot cheaper. GST in Alberta is only 5% where Taxes in ONT it is 13%. Alberta is more of Nature where as GTA is Concrete Jungle. Opportunities are more in GTA cause of more population but.. but as we are growing here in Calgary there will lot many opportunities in next 5 yrs. Where as Hosing market -- No Comparison. Basic need of any Immigrant is ROOF, FOOD and JOB. and that is Available here in CALGARY much reasonable pricing.
