20 years later and this bothers me to my core. I watched this happen when I was a kid and I’ll never forget it. I remember thinking about it for weeks after
And they failed yet again in 2021 with the Tom Wilson incident. It's crazy how much it mirrors what happened here. Thankfully noone's career was ended though the player Wilson hurt is out for the season I think. Hey NHL can you learn
@@polemopoleno7104 I think they were talking about the no-call on Panarin. Grabbing somebody by the hair and pulling them down to the ice should've meant a suspension on it's own, but the rest of that should've ended his career.
Maybe Feburary 16th should be what huants him...his actions on that night are what caused this karma on him when he assualted Naslund with a blindside elbow. At least Moore had dozens of chances to man up and defend himself, Naslund never had that chance.
@@ThisWholeWorld100 bruh what he visited some of the best specialists in the world even 5 years after the incident and he didn’t get clearance to play the sport definitely not at the NHL level
To those who don't care about what Bertuzzi did: If you can defend punching someone in the head from behind, grabbing their head, and slamming it onto solid ice, thereby ending their career, you can justify your opinion.
@Fash out That was the dumbest thing i've ever read, noone on the ice is thinking about someone coming up and sucker punching them from behind. They are trying not to get slammed into the boards by others but CERTAINLY not looking out for people trying to straight sucker punch them from behind.
What Steve Moore got that night was a dose of karma from that previous hit on Marcus Naslunds head nobody ever talks about that did he deserve to have his career ended no did Todd end his career know what ended his career is when the whole f****** team dog piled him
If this happened on the streets, Bertuzzi would be in jail and more would get a massive payout so he could take care of himself. Just read that Bertuzzi got a DUI so I guess it's slowly coming back around.
@@ThisWholeWorld100 Wonderful logic. Checking and shooting pucks is part of a hockey game. Sucker punching people from behind is not. And while those things happen time to time in hockey they get penalized. And why is that? Because it's not part of hockey.
@@Irevoltnow It seems you don't get it. If someone body checked or shot a puck at someone on the street they would likely be arrested. So these things happen in hockey but is not part of hockey? Illogical.
Blame nhl as well for not suspending him for the hit on naslund. At least would calm down the situation. If some minor league from Canucks took out sakic or forsberg, he would have been suspended 10 games easy
Where was Shannahan when you needed him? Right, playing and getting suspended himself. But had he been in charge of player safety then, Moore would still be suspended on March 8, so Bertuzzi wouldn't get to attack him.
The problem is that Moore never upheld his end of the code. He dodged several fights and chose to fight Cooke who at the time wasn't a fighter nor a dirty player. All it did was frustrate the Canucks and he was probably chirping at the Canucks bench. So it was all in the heat of the moment and frustration
Reminds me of the Vegas fans (not many, but this shouldn't happen at all) saying that Reaves should go after other players like he did with Graves. There's no understanding people like that.
As bad as what Moore did to Naslund, that doesn't justify what Bertuzzi did to Moore. To have such little empathy for Moore really shows what kind of people make up the Canuck fan base.
glaxko2 Lol k Moore could just as easily have ended Naslund's career. What happened is unfortunate. Moore should have been benched after his first fight, or fought Bertuzzi when challenged.
@@haydenelwell7221My guess is the broken vertebrae, the concussion all occured from the sucker punch and having your head thrown into the ice. Somehow Bertuzzi didn’t go to prison for assault
He lost his dream job because he did the the dirtiest hits that were career ending or life threatening to other plays. He deserved getting his own career ruined with the same type of hits he did to others.
Cause what he did happens multiple times in every game ever played. He only got the trouble he did because the general public over reactes to seeing a horrible thing and could only point fingers at bert and the canucks.
It's clear to me that a substantial portion of the hockey fanbase is sadly populated by little boys (teenagers at best) desperately trying to sound "manly" and generally afraid of anything resembling compassion.
It’s the small cocked among us, they identify with Bertuzzi who is blatantly also pindicked or he would never do something like this. 99% of extroverted tough guys are pindicked. Ask any woman.
Harmful standards like that are deeply rooted in hockey culture. And it could easily be middle aged men with inferiority complexes looking to build themselves up by trying to tear down players.
@@hazardous0887 Not get up when he was knocked unconscious. I mean, because he didn't step up to answer for his attack on Naslund by facing Bertuzzi. He knew despite fighting Cooke, the Nucks were not letting him off.
broadstreet21 So because he didn’t step up, that means he deserved to get sucker punched from behind and receive a career ending injury? Dude, just own it, you’re a terrible person and you lack empathy.
I think players who get hit like that (probably not as bad, but it still stands) try not to talk about how haunting that stuff is. I've had panic attacks from certain plays, who knows what it's like for the players actually involved
I place 90% of blame on the NHL. The previous meeting between the teams Moore elbowed Vancouvers Captain at center ice while reaching for the puck, a dirty hit. The NHL did nothing, no suspension. The media shame on them was hyping the rematch in Vancouver. Colorado didn't sit out Moore, which would have been the reasonable thing to do. Vancouver should have sent out a guy to fight Moore the very first time he was on the ice. But did not. So late in the in the 3rd Bertuzzi one of Vancouver's best players tries to get Moore to fight but he just keeps skating away. And we see what finally happens. Disgraceful, all the Media could talk about in the days between games was the retaliation they foresaw. NHL loved the press, and did NOTHING. Suspend Moore for a few games that would have ended it. Moore may have had a NHL career, Bertuzzi was never the same player either. Once a high scoring forward, never a goon he just seemed to be a hollow version of his former self. I wanted to throw up. THIS event and others like it where the NHL does nothing, loving the media attention is revolting, a reason a rarely ever watch it anymore.
at the end of the day do you really think Todd's initial thoughts were "oh I'm gonna sucker punch him and knock him out then let his face hit the ice" no he gave him a shot like any hockey player would expecting him to turn around and square up and he just got him good and knocked him out. Todd apologized and he was honestly upset about it. watch his statement the man was crying. I'm not defending him or saying what he did was okay but I'm just saying cut him some slack his intentions weren't to harm him the way he did and end his career.
dimesocks watch the video agin. after Steve is out and starts to fall her grabs his head and falls on top of him driving it into the ground face first, that is not hockey that is aggravated battery with int to cause harm. In today's leuge I could almost promise you he would have been charged. and you say he gave him a shot like any hockey player, but when have you ever seen a sucker punch from behind like that? you don't cheap shot you cross check them or grab ahold of them face to face, not wait till there back is turned.
Moore fought Cooke earlier in the game. Unfortunately Moore won the fight and more unfortunate Colorado was embarrassing the Canucks on the scoreboard. Moore didn't need to fight Bertuzzi - for both points mentioned above. Bertuzzi's hit was criminal and Crawford should also be held accountable.
I feel like the mental side of these hits should be talked about more. The players are haunted by them and so are the fans. Watching it live is even worse. This happened a little while before I was born, but even this postseason I've seen plays that set me on edge for weeks. The DoPS needs a lot of help.
What Bertuzzi did was far from the right thing to do to get payback but the NHL should have suspended Moore for the hit on Naslund from the start. If they did that, I doubt this incident exists.
1:20 "also when you're aware of everything in the lead up to that"... well for those who aren't aware, in a previous game before this straight up criminal assault by Bertuzzi, Mr. Moore took a cheap shot at Markus Naslund. Watch the video. Moore didn't have anything this bad coming to him, but let's not pretend that he always played the puck. His cheap hit could have done much more damage to Naslund, who is a good friend of Bertuzzi. Moore had payback coming
Crazy to think that all Moore had to do was just fight 3 times and get a game misconduct which would’ve been no big deal as it was an already won game for Colorado. But no, he refused to answer the bell, frustration built up, and he lost his career because of it
I agree with you , Moore brought this down on himself and Naslund was never the same player after that cheap shot by Moore. Naslund retired a few years later way before his time and he never came close to leading the league in scoring again. All he had to do was turn and fight Todd for 30 seconds and it would have been done and dusted but he went the cowards route and payed for it.
@The Arsenal MisFit he doesn't owe Todd anything so stfu. If anything you need to control your emotions. Wanna end up as a criminal? Be like that thug Bertuzzi
@@thecamishere4344 if you think answering the bell is fighting the smallest of the 5 guys that tried to fight you then you’re an absolute clown, keep coping at the fact that you never watched the game because you were probably a toddler when it happened
Sad that stuff like this goes unresolved. that was not even close to a clean play and i would say Bertuzzi got away with murder. Stuff like that still happens today in my league with slew foots and what not. whether or not that people think Moore should suck it up you just have think about what if you were in his shoes having your life work taken away from you.
I would have faced Bertuzi and accepted my punishment for the cheap shot on the best player in the league at that time. I would not of taken the cowards way out like he tried. Nasland was never the same after more cheap shot and was traded a year later and retired a few years later. No seems to care about what happened to Nasland.
Anybody who defends Bertuzzi and Crawford for this has absolutely no soul. I understand you feel obligated to make a statement regardless if a hit is a cheapshot or not on your captain(even that will be disputed). However, there's a difference between playing a game and playing someone else's life. And that's exactly what Bertuzzi did. He ruined somebody's life permenantly.
***** Never said he couldn't get a job. And I never said your life wasn't fine. But in terms of his hockey career, it ended so abrupty and negatively. I'm talking about in terms of health problems, he's still not the same as he was before he got assaulted. How is he a goon? How am I a hack? Explain to me how that's the case.
***** He never taunted anybody. Cooke challenged him first. When you actually rewatch the hit, the severity of that hit was on Naslund himself(he's always been injury prone btw and known to get himself into messes like this), the impact would've been a lot less severe had Naslund not gotten down before Moore connected with the hit. Moore's intention was not to hurt anybody. Bertuzzi had full intentions to hurt him. And by the way, even if you can miraculously convince me that Moore had full intentions for a cheapshot, that does not excuse Bertuzzi for suckerpunching him in the back of the head and smashing him into the ice. And I don't care how long ago that injury was. Injuries like that can take the rest of their life to recover from. It really scares me that you support even the slightest bit of what Todd Bertuzzi did to this rookie. Isles fan btw so no bias.
***** Thank you for proving my point. He still lunged down and that's what increased the severity of the hit. The point is THAT's what made the hit worse. Do not forget the groin injury the year before. Bertuzzi stuck up for his friend by intentionally assaulting him? That's how you stick up? And I don't care if you were at the game or not dude. That was a horrific moment to watch when I was a kid and have always asked about it since to my family(what's happening to him? Is he alive?) Those were questions I asked my family who are huge hockey fans. Yes, you should stick up for your teammates, I'm not questioning that. But that is blatant assault. Naslund didn't even want that to happen to Moore. Let me ask you this, if you were on the street and somebody suckerpunched you drove your face into the ground, would you not want to press charges regardless of any circumstance? I know Canada has more passion about hockey than USA, but come on, show some boundaries.
***** And thank you for correcting me on Naslund. For some reason, I was thinking of him being more prone when it was actually Bure. Sorry about that confusion.
People forget Naslund was the top scorer in the league this year and a skilless rookie tried to end his career with an elbow to the head.. Of all players to hit like that you choose Naslund.....
It's comments like this that show the true heart of Canucks fans. You're all classless whiners. You'll never win a damn thing. Go riot and destroy your own city.
@@heftyhugh9086 I'm not a Canucks fan. I live in Toronto and have always been a Leafs supporter. I was taking issue with the absurd accusation that Moore was trying to destroy Naslund's career.
Then he should have honored the code and took his licks. instead he fought the tiny Matt Cooke who he beat up pretty easily. All he did with that fight was add to the revenge that needed to be taken to make things right. Moore ended Naslunds career with that hit, he was never the same again. Had Moore manned up and honored the code and fought May or anyone else he would have ended it. instead he left himself open to cheap shots and that what he ended up getting instead of being able to defend himself, that was a choice he made.
I don't get why one hit on the ice is any more evil than any other. When he hit Naslund, naslund could have hit the ice and broke his neck. The fact that he didn't was *luck*, not Moore being a great guy who prevented it from happening. You don't get to claim victimhood just because the punch hit you the wrong way, when you are perfectly willing to cause dangerous sports injuries to others

I doubt Bertuzzi expected him to get injured to that extent its terrible it happened and it ended two great players CareEra wish they both got to retire
The great players who were affected were Naslund and Bertuzzi. Moore was a gutless cheapshot artist who knew the only way he could stay in the lineup was to take runs at stars. Even old ladies who watched him in midget, speak of how dirty he was. He got punched and fell and got a neck fracture...most NHLers would have barely got a bruise.

Somewhat agreed. I think Bertuzzi got caught up in in the moment feelings and probably meant to hurt the guy but at the same time probably not as bad as he did.
Bertuzzi is a hero. Moore had it coming for how he conducted himself. Absolutely a pansy player. Dirty hit on Naslund, and he knew what he was doing. You can see in the footage Moore had the puck knocked away and he still leaned into the check on Naslund. Didn't even catch a penalty. League says it was legal but that's a load of crap. Sure, he didn't deserve to lose his career over it... but that was never Bertuzzi's intention.
Moore already fought in this game 💀💀. Bertuzzi and his sub 60 iq couldn't control his emotions and lashed out like a toddler. There's gotta be something in the water in Vancouver because y'all canucks fans r some of the most braindead human beings I've ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on
Steve Moore is related to retired nhl player dominic moore. He came from a hockey family. He would of atleast lasted 5 years and been a third line winger or centre like dominic. Its truly sad. U had a kid who was 25 years old...only 56 games into his career.. Yeah he messed up hitting nasund but he dropped the gloves. IT WAS OVER. 8-2 blow out game.. He dropped the gloves once... Hes not going risk getting hurt or KOed when the game is decided. Brutuzzi hit him with such force...the shots that hurt MORE are ones u DONT see. Todd Brutuzzi was given a suspenion than let back with open arms. Burke even offered moore a 2 way deal when he wasnt cleared. I truly believe Steve when he said '' IF I could resume my career I would not of sued him''. Seriously Brutuzzi took quality of life and his career from Moore. Brutuzzi made 50 million + in his career... so I think the settlement should be MIN 3 million
***** you are correct sir. steve, a bitch, assumed he wouldnt be paying up for his sucker on naslund. wrong he was. glad it happened. wish steve learned from it. this video shows he was always a no talent, piece of garbage hack who always planned on suing. glad he got nothing.
Why the fuck would Kessel head shot a kid. Have you ever seen him cheap shot anybody? He respects all players on the ice including the other team. You're right he's a bad example. Now lets talk about the quality of player Bertuzzi is for what he did. Have we seen anybody do something like this after this incident? NO because it was a ludacris thing for him to do. Just because Moore barely connect with a hit on Naslund the game before doesn't give him the right to do that. It's a sport nobody has to do anything they are forced to do within reason. The reason being forced into a fight that he didn't need to fight.
Matt D he would have been fine! he was just an arrogant fuck. thought he was better than the minors. he was a marginal player at best. dominic has talent though
He was good enough to make to to the NHL which is a feat on it's own. Whether or not he would have stayed in the NHL for 10 years, who knows, but he could have at least been playing in the minors right now, maybe AHL, EHL, OHL, something. But it eneded for him before it even began.
Bert's a legend, not just in Vancouver, but in Detroit, amongst others -- while Moore is a footnote, who's legacy is cheapshotting a star, turning gutless tail on Big Bert and being the most fragile NHLer of all time.
@@vmf1965Just saying if you make a career out of playing dirty and trying to injure players, one shouldn’t be surprised if they then become a victim of a dirty play themselves. Neither of those guys wanted to end a career, but that is a potential consequence if you target the head whether by charging or by punching. Moore was unlucky in that sense. The major issue in hockey is that violence/dirty play is usually encouraged until someone gets hurt, and then they like to blame it on one guy, and not the series of preventable events that led up to it.
@@joshworkman6455 I remember it well...he ducked Brad May out of the gate that game and only dropped the gloves once, against the smaller, non-fighter Matt Cooke (which he got the better of, and surely only pissed off Canucks more) Hardly fulfilling the hockey code. i love physicality in hockey but i do feel very bad for him. I don’t know why Bertuzzi had to drive his head in the ice also. then again a sucker punch isn’t much better. I don’t believe Bertuzzi meant to end the guys career either
Well in that press conference Bertuzzi in tears said "I didn't mean to hurt you." I agree, I dont think he was trying to end the man's career and I think that's what he meant. He knew he went overboard.
Brad May came out publicly not too long ago and said Moore faked his injuries and was in a pool 2 weeks later celebrating, etc. I don't condone Bert's actions whatsoever but sounds like Moore is a scumbag altogether and both players got what they deserved in the end.
What makes the whole incident even worse in my opinion is, that despite adhering to the unwritten rules of hockey, it still happened. He got the message, he fought one of the Canucks players and that should’ve been the end of it. Yet there’s still people saying it’s part of the game. No it isn’t, it stopped being part of the game once he dropped the gloves with a Canucks player earlier in the game.
The problem is that he concussed the team captain and best player in the league at the time then got away with it, naslund was never the same player after that elbow. Moore then had several players challenge him to a fight but he chose to settle with Matt Cooke, you don't settle something like that by fighting Matt Cooke who also at that time was a pretty irrelevant player. Moore ended his own career by filing the lawsuit.
From all the comments I have heard from this incident, it is clear that Moore was trying to get as much sympathy has he could. There was no reason for him to speak with the media ten years later about his trial and how emotional it is for him. Grow up bud.
Yup, permanently injured, never again able to play the game you love, and absolutely no resolution for ruining your life. Definitely needs to "grow up". You fucking psychopath.
@@DracoHandsome lazy and ignorant comment. He was cleared to play and offered a contract but declined it because he followed the lawsuit money. Now who is the idiot?
Unreal this went on for as long as it did! What job do you go to, almost get killed and don’t get it resolved, especially in a league like the NHL! Brutal!
That fight with Cooke was literally nothing lol, if he at least fought Bertuzzi that would’ve been respectable and the whole thing would’ve ended right there
Of course he’s bothered the guy was in place to take over for one of the top franchises at the time learning from Sakic and hejduk and it was taken from Him
Bertuzzi handled this all wrong. Chirp the guy nonstop, hit him legally, challenge him every chance you get, but you dont skate up and blindside punch someone.
He had many chances and kept ducking.. take a cheap shot on a star player and u gotta answer for it.. Especially being a rookie.. he put himself in that situation wanting to be a big boy but not a man so 🤷🏼♂️ And it doesn’t justify bertuzzi’s actions but poor decisions were made on both sides ..
You have to realize that Moore had been dodging bert, Brad may, and brookbank from the start of the game. Then turned down challenges from several others like ruutu and pronger to fight Matt Cooke. You first don't get to pick and choose to fight the guy you outweigh by 40lbs and you don't fight Cooke to settle a score. So knowing that you would probably understand the frustration. Matt Cooke at that time also wasnt the dirty player everyone remembers today.
Considering no conclusion in the case was reached after 10 years, he still has symptoms, and that a hockey career is anywhere from 15 to 20 years it is perfectly acceptable for him to still be upset.
It's the arrogance of Steve and his, "poor me" attitude that make him a whiney d-bag. There are people starving, war torn countries, poverty and injustices in all corners of the world, and this fucking egotistical piece of shit is still crying because he doesn't get to play a game for a living, not to mention he really wouldn't have made it past being a 4th line no name grinder. He has a Harvard education for Christ sakes yet somehow it's, "boo hoo my life is over" The Vancouver Canucks tried to settle with Moore multiple times out of court with 6 and 7 figure sums but he called them, "insulting" and he's insisting on 38 million dollars? 38 million?????!!!! Are you fucking kidding me? 38 million big ones for a guy who would've been bouncing up and down from the minors his entire career and wouldn't have made more than 10 million his whole career give me a fucking break. Even former teammate Scott Parker commented on what an arrogant piece of shit Moore was, he had this whole I'm a Harvard grad therefore I'm better than you persona, weeks prior to his on naslund he laid down a vicious cross check on Marty St. Louis and even torts was pissed talking about what a little weasel Moore was. Just the fact his is so self righteous and not willing to admit that maybe, just maybe his actions had something to do with his own downfall makes him seem like a genuinely selfish, ignorant person. Now with that being said I'm not trying to justify todds punch, he should have had to fork over half his salary every year he played from then on, but Bert is not a bad guy by any means, he made a bad desicion in the heat of the moment and if you watch the video you'll notice it was Andrew nikolishin jumping on top of the two that caused the vertebrae in his neck to snap, so really he should be getting sued as well. Take your money and just disappear Moore, please everyone has had enough of his poor me whining.
+Julia Detmer "bertuzzi was always an enforcer" man you really know absolutely nothing about hockey, guy is considered one of the best powerforwards of his time. It was heat of the moment, and I guess reading comprehension isn't one of your skills, I never said what bert did was right but you twist my words and talk to yourself and agree with yourself under another screen name congrats. My point is that Moore needs to stop feeling sorry for himself, yes it's shitty he can't play a game for a living but he has a great life regardless. My uncle beat colon cancer only to have found a tomour last week he also has MS and is deaf in his right ear, and I have never heard him whine or feel sorry for himself once. Also bringing up Dominic's wife has absolutely nothing to do with Steve and is completely irrelevant, just goes to show you can't come up with a legitimate argument. From the sound of it you're probably Steve's wife or sister, have fun responding to every comment you deem to be ignorant towards Steve Moore, an exciting life you must lead to have that kind of time on your hands. Idiot.
All the best to you Moore. I hope many blessings come to you because of this. Violence like this has to be ended in the NHL There is a right way to be aggressive and a wrong way ! We are in 2024 let's go
I feel shock and disgust that after 10 years he still can't own his half of this. Don't get me wrong.. Bert was way out of line and it is certainly tragic that his resulting injury was so severe.. but there are risks we choose to avoid and some we choose to take on, and that is on him. Did he really think he'd get a pass for headhunting a player like Naslund? I don't go around poking grizzly bears but if I did I'd certainly own my own stupidity for whatever resulted.
If it happened to you or someone close to you, you'd have sincere empathy for the struggles he's been going through. He coukd have died on the ice. Your trying to insinuate he should have expected retribution for his elbow hit on Naslund. That's real mature of you to say. Bertuzzi knew exactly what he was doing when he sucker-punched and ruined Moore's career in his rookie year. He intentionally wanted to harm Steve and didn't care about the repercussions.
Aasiyah Wadee yes he should have expected retribution from his hit on naslund that’s how hockey works you make a dirty hit you get penalized and you will get challenged to a fight (witch Moore was multiple times and he ran or declined) you fight and it’s over Bertuzzis hit was way out of line but yeah expect retribution when you run a star player it’s like walking on a live gun range and crying when you get shot yeah the other guy is partially at fault but you are also at fault
I will never feel sorry for Moore. He’s one of those guys who can’t take accountability. He injured Naslund (One of the leagues best players at that time) with a dirty play….and he STILL can’t get over the fact that karma caught up with him. Weak. He made more from that lawsuit than he ever would’ve made in the NHL. That’s a boy, not a man right there.
@@HunterMagunter Moore's career was nothing but a cheap shot artist. I'm glad what happened to Moore, because Moore was eventually going to end someone's career with his dirty cheap shots.
If someone could possibly be rational about this. Bertuzzi did not intentionally break Moore's neck. Bertuzzi attempted to act within the code, Moore refused to face him and fight and the result was a bad hit that connected wrongly. Of course Bertuzzi could have acted better. He could have been smart enough to know how dangerous a blind punch could be. He could have and started with a body blow. Moore could have done better too. He could have not hit Narslund, he could have agreed to fight Bertuzzi F2F. Bertuzzi is guilty of being reckless, and pretty dumb in the heat of the moment, but he is not an assassin. That part was just very bad luck. Moore is guilty of shirking the code and putting himself into a vulnerable position. But Moore paid much too high a price for his mistake and deserves everyone's sympathy. Bertuzzi paid too low a price for his mistake, but it was a mistake while acting within the code.
the interviewer must have been referring to his own opinion at the end because I hav never heard someone say he needs to suck up getting his career ended 😂😂
Aw Moore! I remember the game like it was yesterday. Don't listen to all of the non-sense comments here. All just misinformed. What you went through all because of that hit was terrible and I wish you the best of luck.
These comments are disgusting. These are real people. Did Moore cheap shot Naslund? Yes. Should Moore have his career ended for that? No. You people are wishing and celebrating his life to be ruined, almost twenty years later. For every cheap shot, should we end someone’s career? There would be no NHL. We’re all people here. Have some compassion man
The lawsuit he filed was what really made the extent of his injuries questionable to everyone. The lawsuit probably forced him to milk his injuries, if hes recovered then obviously his case & credibility is dead and he will never play hockey again anyway. On top of that Moore's lawyers refused to let him be seen by different doctors. But we'll never know if it was the result of his injuries that ended his career or the lawsuit he filed.
Moore had already said that he had been getting asked by multiple people per shift to fight, he already fought once. He can't say yes to every guy that asks. Todd grabbed the back of his jersey, that's all, and Moore shrugged it off. Todd cheap shotted him. I don't think Moore should still be trying to get justice a decade later, but if a guy doesn't want to fight, he shouldn't be forced to and attacked because of it.
+Damian Fabrizio he should of thought about that before he took a massive cheap shot at their captain and best player. he isn't a victim just unfortunate he landed face first into the ice.
+MrJgrath so that means every cold blooded killer ik the nhl at that time (brad may, Matt Cooke, and Todd bertuzi) should basically go out there and try to murder him. and they weren't the only ones trying to instigate. that's not hockey that's gutless and the nhl did a good job of getting rid of that, no more george Laraque asking for fights like candy. you can answer the bell and make it appropriate but what the canucks and bertuzi did was uncalled for and bertuzi deserves jail time.
+scarycrazymann that is the most ridiculous comment ever. starting off with your " cold blooded killer" list in its self shows you know little about hockey or its history. can't have a intelligent conversation with someone who doesn't know the game . sorry.

"There are people out there....who are of the opinion....Steve ....should suck it up.." Nobody said that, not one person. This interviewer is starting the question this way as tot make it ok to ask this question just to get a rise from Moore. Disgusting.
No one deserves to have their career ended. But I really don't feel sorry for this guy when he could have done the same to a number of other players. Bertuzzi made a really bad judgement call and he is realllllly paying for it now.

Maybe Feburary 16th should be what huants him...his actions on that night are what caused this karma on him when he assualted Naslund with a blindside elbow.
At least Moore had dozens of chances to man up and defend himself, Naslund never had that chance.
Of course it bothers him, his dream was taken away from him
Good thing too, since his dream was to end the careers of players who were good at the sport.
Yet he was given a chance to play again and declined it. More money in lawsuits.

To those who don't care about what Bertuzzi did: If you can defend punching someone in the head from behind, grabbing their head, and slamming it onto solid ice, thereby ending their career, you can justify your opinion.
Fash out But Bertuzzi wasn’t provoked and it was a cheap shot from behind. If you’re walking down the street do you expect to be shot from behind?
@Fash out That was the dumbest thing i've ever read, noone on the ice is thinking about someone coming up and sucker punching them from behind. They are trying not to get slammed into the boards by others but CERTAINLY not looking out for people trying to straight sucker punch them from behind.
What Steve Moore got that night was a dose of karma from that previous hit on Marcus Naslunds head nobody ever talks about that did he deserve to have his career ended no did Todd end his career know what ended his career is when the whole f****** team dog piled him
Sounds like you’re fine with what Moore did to Naslund..... justify that opinion
What about elbowing someone in the head and knocking them out with a concussion and getting away with it?
If this happened on the streets, Bertuzzi would be in jail and more would get a massive payout so he could take care of himself. Just read that Bertuzzi got a DUI so I guess it's slowly coming back around.
Same with a body check or if someone tried to shoot a puck at you. Sad comment.

You could blame coach Tony Granato for not pulling him sooner. They didn't need him by then, the game was way out of reach.
it wasnt a hit. is was an assault on naslund.
Where was Shannahan when you needed him? Right, playing and getting suspended himself. But had he been in charge of player safety then, Moore would still be suspended on March 8, so Bertuzzi wouldn't get to attack him.
Or Bertuzzi could have just not sucker punched Moore and slammed his head into the ice. Either way works, right?
@@jessewang6205 Well he had to do something. That's the dirty business in hockey.
Canucks all cried and said they didn't want to hurt him, but all they talked about before was how bad they wanted to hurt him...

The problem is that Moore never upheld his end of the code. He dodged several fights and chose to fight Cooke who at the time wasn't a fighter nor a dirty player. Revenge is part of the game. Players doling out justice is part of the game. Bertuzzi, however, took it to a level where it should be criminal.

I think players who get hit like that (probably not as bad, but it still stands) try not to talk about how haunting that stuff is. I've had panic attacks from certain plays, who knows what it's like for the players actually involved
“Do you think it’s been calculated that this has been dragged out so long”…… yup

That was pretty uncool of him to cry.
Hippy(Bboomer) and what did Moore do to Naslund again?
He rammed his face into the ice and sought Moore out. I'd say that's intentional.

***** All and all, I'd have given Moore somewhat of a suspension for that hit due to the bad positioning. You have to. But that's the league's fault.
People forget Naslund was the top scorer in the league this year and a skilless rookie tried to end his career with an elbow to the head.. Of all players to hit like that you choose Naslund.....

Well in that press conference Bertuzzi in tears said "I didn't mean to hurt you." I agree, I dont think he was trying to end the man's career and I think that's what he meant. He knew he went overboard.
"let's tell this guy we're gonna ask him about the hit that ended his career. Let's put him in a cinderblock bunker first! Genius!" wtf are we doing?
Brad May came out publicly not too long ago and said Moore faked his injuries and was in a pool 2 weeks later celebrating, etc. I don't condone Bert's actions whatsoever but sounds like Moore is a scumbag altogether and both players got what they deserved in the end.
🤡 you can't fake fractured vertebrae
Glad to see he’s ok, eventhough he elbow tackled naslund bertuzzi’s action isn’t justified in any circumstances.
Flying elbow to the jaw is a little different than an elbow tackle
He got sucker punched, NHL'ers get sucker punched all the time. If there was no dogpile, this would have been over years ago.
@@JFK762 despite all that, still doesn't give Bertuzzi the right to do what he did.
@@JFK762 at least Naslund still played
@@JFK762 and he SHOULD file the lawsuit
From all the comments I have heard from this incident, it is clear that Moore was trying to get as much sympathy has he could. There was no reason for him to speak with the media ten years later about his trial and how emotional it is for him. Grow up bud.
Yup, permanently injured, never again able to play the game you love, and absolutely no resolution for ruining your life. Definitely needs to "grow up". You fucking psychopath.
@@DracoHandsome lazy and ignorant comment. He was cleared to play and offered a contract but declined it because he followed the lawsuit money. Now who is the idiot?
Thank god Bertuzzi took him out. This thug was a danger to the sport.
Unreal this went on for as long as it did! What job do you go to, almost get killed and don’t get it resolved, especially in a league like the NHL! Brutal!
Shoulda dropped the gloves one of the 5 or 6 times you were challenged and just taken your medicine. None of this woulda happened.
He fought Cooke earlier in the game.
That fight with Cooke was literally nothing lol, if he at least fought Bertuzzi that would’ve been respectable and the whole thing would’ve ended right there
This guys pissed off that his career ended when he was the one out there trying his hardest to end innocent players careers.
Moore tried to take Naslunds head off the game before, and left Marcus with a cut and a concussion. They never should have Let Moore play this game.
That isn’t part of the game and is very much an offense to be dealt with in court.
go watch golf
Of course he’s bothered the guy was in place to take over for one of the top franchises at the time learning from
Sakic and hejduk and it was taken from

He wasnt even close he was fringe goon. Got exactly what he deserved not the injury but heat.
@@jeremyyano8926 exactly what he deserved for what??? The hit on naslund was clearly an accident.
@@tiddelybitsjohnson4211 sure it was
Bertuzzi handled this all wrong. Chirp the guy nonstop, hit him legally, challenge him every chance you get, but you dont skate up and blindside punch someone.
He had many chances and kept ducking.. take a cheap shot on a star player and u gotta answer for it..
Especially being a rookie.. he put himself in that situation wanting to be a big boy but not a man so 🤷🏼♂️
And it doesn’t justify bertuzzi’s actions but poor decisions were made on both sides ..
10 years latter and you're still crying? Grow up
Yeah maybe after 2-5 years. Its ten year later. Do something with your life instead of crying.
Andrei Nikolishin*
Violence like this has to be ended in the NHL
There is a right way to be aggressive and a wrong way ! We are in 2024 let's go
Bertuzzi should have had a lifetime ban after this.
why can't he play again? It's not like the incident made him any dumber
This guy graduated from Harvard. Where did you go to school?
It was a Huge Payday for him, playing again would undermine his claim.

So a hit to the head means it's okay to almost paralyze the guy?
AMEN! Same here, he shouldn't have cheap shotted Naslund and he would still be able to play.

generalroro21 What a dumb pos you are.
Bertuzzi should be in jail, that really pissed me off, definitely gave the NHL a black eye,NOBODY deserves this
You should be in jail
As a Red Wings fan my whole life, I've always hated that the Wings signed Bertuzzi. He should have never been allowed to play again.
This comment section is disgusting
the interviewer must have been referring to his own opinion at the end because I hav never heard someone say he needs to suck up getting his career ended 😂😂
But we'll never know if it was the result of his injuries that ended his career or the lawsuit he filed.
you would of dropped your gloves in stead of running you'd be fine. Run their captain and then don't answer the bell? I don't feel sorry for you.
+scarycrazymann that is the most ridiculous comment ever. starting off with your " cold blooded killer" list in its self shows you know little about hockey or its history. can't have a intelligent conversation with someone who doesn't know the game . sorry.
