HorizonRC.com How-To: How-To Maintain Your Boat's Flex Shaft

- RC boating is easier than ever to get into, thanks to quality RTR boats from Pro Boat. These boats all come out of the boxes with the hulls completed, electronics installed, engine mounted and radio system ready to go. One step that is left up to the end-user, however, is to grease the flex shaft. While this may seem like a daunting task, it is actually quite easy for just about anyone to complete. The process has been broken down into a few simple steps to demonstrate how to lube the flex shaft on a Pro Boat Formula FASTech Brushless boat, however, these steps should be relatively similar for just about any boat you might own.

This video is a real good help to keep one`s boat in a good condition. Thank you!
Thank you so much it helped me grease my rc boat.
@rccarfreak0011 Depends on the boat. On the FASTech here those are decals I believe.
Great video and some real good tips for all the r/c boat boys ;-) maybe one day i just might go out and get one of these bad boys too,5*
The prop angle is fixed and the height of the prop is adjusted via another plate. None of your settings change when performing this maintenance. If you look at 1:57 there are 2 screws on either side of the mounting plate. THOSE are the screws that adjust your prop height, not the one removed at 2:14.
Thank you .
Do you not have correctly sized spanners in the USA lol. Gret video tho, I have just ordered your grease, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@lancer2589 Something is bound up and causing excessive friction.
thanks you
@barto249 it needs to have a little play for tolerance otherwise it could/will bind up and cause issues down the road

@barto249 What boat are you using?
Just received a boat but it is winter should I grease mine while it will sit a couple months till I can run it when lakes thaw ?
That is a huge esc! How many amps is that because me and my airplane buddies are running 30-40 amp escs. An esc and motor like that would literally rip the plane to pieces in the air
I have a grease nipple on the end of mine so I don't need to remove it! Just keep squeezing the grease until it comes out of the other end!
How often do you have to do this?
is it recommended to do that every time the boat goes for a ride ?
when i put it all back together my prop did not have and "wiggle" room when i tried to move it back and fourth... is this bad, if so how do I fix it?
'
what country make this boat,,,
which one is better boat,,,
traxxas villain EX or formula boat
I have a question about the boat.....are the decals just a sticker over a white paint??? or are they painted on.
What happens if you don’t do this
No, I'd say for every few hours of running you should do this.
Did too much offline. Needed to see setscrew undone cause... mine's not werkin. :/
so the prop angle isn't adjustable?
@HorizonRCdotCom I want to buy one of these and change the look for my dad. He has the real version. All i would have to do is remove the decals and put vinyl strips on. Does anybody know for sure?
Congratulations to you reader! If you are reading this then you are part of the 5 percent of people in the rc hobby who give two craps about boats still
what a pain in the butt! I had no idea proboat used such a mickey mouse setup.
Just viewed your proboat lubrication video. Was simple for you could be nightmarish for me. I’m 70, have no tools, no grease gun and more importantly, no patience. My question is- if I took my entry level H101 to a hobby store, how much would they charge to perform and/or educate me to maintain my toy? Dave R. Fishers, IN
10/20 bucks. Sorry about the late reply buddy. But get them to locktite everything that needs locktite.
Never have the teflon washer flush against the strut. Always leave the same gap as the flex shaft diameter.
a callot?
@HorizonRCdotCom then how could i fix this??
@HorizonRCdotCom the FASTech.
How exactly is this a "mickey mouse" setup? It's pretty simple and really user friendly.
never wanna have a dry shaft!!!
721069 thats what she said
You should do this everytime you run the boat in saltwater.
How often on my Clearwater pond (15 minute runs)?
So, this step took you 8 minutes . I see
One thing you should do also before you grease the shaft is wipe the rust and old grease off it. This is more important than you might think
You should go back and re-do this video. It takes the viewer too much time to watch it.
One more tip is this: Instead of touching the grease with your fingers, just squirt some onto a right angle. Then place the shaft in the grease and twist it.
No it is not.
Building nitro rc
you have to remove the strut to lube the shaft and then you still don't get to the solid shaft. Each time you lube it, you lose your strut setting. THAT is mickey mouse. If you know how most shaft systems work, you would know this is not a good setup.
