    That Duke pen is absolutely awesome. When I started the whole fountain pen thing in 2009, my first pens were Jinhao and Duke, and I even had a Duke Bamboo, but nothing like THAT. That's a serious piece of kit. The fude nib is cool too. I wish I had a use for something like that.

    Thanks for being honest about the non-archival properties. I have 3 of these Iroshizuku inks and I regret them because I got them under the impression that they are fairly water-resistant from many rave reviews. Unfortunately, these beautiful inks have zero of that property; literally disappeared with a squirt of water. These inks are beautiful nonetheless and flow very well indeed.

      They are beautiful inks for writing. I love the gradations.

      funny how everyone says there is gradation. I don't see much in your demo. And the three coloured ones I have don't shade, at least not visibly to me. Super pretty definitely; I am still thankful I get to own these but just banged that I can't see what the reviews say they will do.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +PositivelyNice The gradation appears depending on whether the nib is able to deposit lots of ink when it is being lifted. Wetter area is the darker area.

      Teoh Yi Chie oh! Perhaps it is because I use fine nib.

    I am a big big fan of Noodler's Bulletproof black; however, this Take-Sumi has a VERY nice sheen and is very smooth. I use this ink in my Pilot Metro CM nib, and it is a joy to write with. If I need permanence, in a separate plastic bottle, this ink mixed with a small amount of Noodler's will give it allow the Noodler's to stick, while having the smoothness of this ink.

      @liquan5145 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      dadoody that’s very interesting, did you have any problems with your pen? Did it mix well?

    • @joey_mck
      @joey_mck 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a crazy old comment but I have a question. How did the mixing continue to go? I’ve been toying with the idea of mixing some of the Noodler’s UV reactive ink to some of their others for security to use for signing checks or other documents. Any of you guys do this?

    Thankyou for such a helpful review and comparison. I'm just starting to look at which inks will work best for sketchbooking. I like slight water soluble shading, but not too much. The take-sumi is a lovely looking ink though

    that was a nice review you gave. i have never seen a nib like that which you used with the Take-sumi ink. I missed what you called it. I take that it is used for drawing. I liked that you wet the ink to show if it fading too. Once I wrote a check and envelope to pay a bill and used an Iroshizuku ink. Apparently it rained while the envelope was in the mail because the organization I mailed it to returned the check and envelope to me. It was only an illegible cloud of turquoise ink on both the check and the envelope. Good thing checks have names and addresses on them! ;-)

    Could the shading you mentioned on the first sample writing with the Take Sumi have been from the shape of the pen nib rather than the ink?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kich 6 Yes, how you lift your pen and the pen will also affect how much ink is deposited.

    Hi Teoh, I'm still struggling to find a sketchbook that is nice to use with ink - preferably smooth surface, a5 sized sketchbook.

      Hi :) The alpha and beta series are not good to use with a fountain pen ? (to add watercolor after)

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alpha and Beta can be used with watercolour. The surface is textured like coldpress watercolour paper. Since you asked for smooth, I recommended the smooth sketchbooks. Check out the comparison tablet in this review www.parkablogs.com/picture/stillman-and-birn-sketchbooks-first-impression

    Wait one question, were you able to read the letters written in Japanese? Bcs I know someone who could read and speak Japanese and he said he can get a basic understanding of Chinese text bcs of the kana. Just wondering :O

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Japanese text is a mixture of Japanese alphabets and Chinese characters. Chinese language is older than Japanese. I can't understand Japanese but I can read basic Japanese alphabets -- can't understand the meaning though.
