Loved the illustration of how important good audio is. The lessons you learn from your own mistakes you rarely forget... Respect to you for getting the max out of your 24-105 and not thinking you need a bagfull of lenses to do paid work.
Thanks Steve, glad you agree with that point. I feel like most people overlook the importance of audio and focus mainly on resolution etc! Yeah I genuinely think it’s best to be as flexible as possible with one lens; saves on changing times etc!
I really appreciate your content, not many people are doing videos on the S5 aside from initial reviews. Sick shot with Falcon Eyes when the artist is sitting on the floor!
I appreciate your taking the time to illustrate (and place links on each of your equipment :-) ) a real working man's rig to use on the S5. We need these in this community. Your channel hits the spot with me so I have subbed over the past few weeks. While by not means a pro interest, I have been our "family event" photographer and videographer for almost 40 years, weddings and reunions. Recently, I shoot family presentations and am considering the Lumix SH4-5+ or S5 for their price/feature/flexibility capabilities, especially to make use of my many old adapted Minolta lenses. Please DO keep your deliberate, pragmatic S5 reviews coming... they truly up the dialog and helps us not in the latest know-how as to what really works, in practice-- very helpful! I agree that in early years of amateur video efforts, low light was my first technology limitation, followed by poor audio. Great equipment tips! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this comment! Really happy that my videos are proving to be helpful for you and somewhat entertaining! Great to know and pushes me to keep on making content surrounding the S5 🙌🏼 It’s a tricky one when deciding now between crop sensor or full frame... of course, crop sensor lenses are WAAYY cheaper, but I genuinely believe that image from FF (especially the S Series) is pretty unbeatable!
Dude! I just downloaded that conversion LUT. It's so good! Thanks so much. I was honestly considering sending the camera back. This may be changing my mind. Thanks again.
I felt the same when I first started to use V-Log! It’s honestly the best 709 conversion there is. It ACTUALLY does the job. Really glad it’s working for you bud!
Trying to switch to the LUMIX system from Sony. Great info, thank you! 7th video of the night, and the last 4 being watched in a row. 😂 I subscribed just now as well👍🏼
I've got a lot of this gear for my own work but need to get the SL60W and some more native Zoom lenses. Just got the 50mm F1.8 Prime for my S1 and 25mm F1.7 Prime for my GH5 😎
I was looking for this combination of cameras (s5 and Fuji xt3) great combination and very few people use it. I am currently using GH5 and XT3. Researching on youtube I'm looking for the possibility of a fullframe with a good lens so I can do photo work too. looks like the S5 with 24-105 F4 and maybe for the 80mm 1.8 lens is a great combination with the Fuji xt3. Thanks for the presentation.
You been tempted by a lens adapter at all? LUMIX lenses are big money, with a simply MC-21 or Commlite adapter theres plenty of f2.8 lenses from Canon which far outclass the 24-105 you've been using. Just a thought as I am considering doing a similar thing!
Hi Dan, I actually have the MC-21 adapter already! Maybe in the future I'll get some 2.8 glass from Canon, but for now I'm honestly very happy with the current set up!
Thanks for sharing your videos/ knowledge :-) ....2 questions ....do you use SD cards for recording or do you have an external set up ...and... have you come across any way of protecting the micro HDMI cable port with the Small Rig S5 cage ? (SmallRig dont do a clamp) ..... Cheers :-)
Thanks for watching Chris! So I record everything internally to a UHS-ii memory card and then a back up to a UHS-i memory card. I do actually think there's a micro hdmi cable clamp for the SmallRig cage, is there not? To be honest with you, it's a minefield with smallrig because they make so many different cable clamps!
How do you get corporate gigs as a solopreneur , I also have the s5 and but I'm really interested in making a living shooting corporate gigs , Could you make a workflow video or tips on getting gigs/building income thanks .
I wish Panasonic would release those primes housed in cine bodies with gears... whilst keeping the AF. Really liking my Rokinon Cine DSX set with my S1 and Ef-L adapter which lives on my camera with a plastic cap. I might just sell my gimbal and get and easyrig. Seems more future proof. I have a v-mount on my rig. I'm just gonna put my entire rig into a foam lined tool bag without disassembly.
Yeah that's a great idea, having to break down your rig can be so annoying and it;s why I now use an S1 and S5 on some of my shoots - That way I can have a handheld set up and a gimbal set up if I need it
Hey again :) .. First, big Thanks is a must here! .. Now, would you please make us a live video ISO performance comparison between the S5 and the T3 .... Would be much valuable and interesting. Thanks Josh !
I’ve just got ride of both my xt3 purely a logical choice so that I can get an S5 to match with my S1. I’ll be honest, I love my lumix gear but I really miss my Fuji gear. The video just looks so good from Fuji and they are so nice to use but just lack the pro tools that lumix have. Just stick to the lumix f1.8 primes for gimbal work. Unless you want to try specific cine lenses
Recently bought an S5. Have an X-S10. Similar, but a bit better, in my opinion, because it offers the things the S5 doesn't like the film sims and the 240p >> and cameras are surprisingly similar looking
The XLR adapter is absolutely fantastic for when you’re using just XLR mics. It’s easy to use, has a small footprint and a clean signal when you set the gain properly. The reason why the tascam is used for me on bigger shoots is simply because it has a 3.5mm input as well, so that means if I ever need to run any lav mics, I can hook up my 3.5mm receiver to the tascam and get a clean preamp. If I’m just shooting a TH-cam vid though or something where I know I won’t need to use any lav mics, then the XLR1 is my go to :D Ah awesome man, thanks for watching 🙌🏼 hope you’re enjoying the S5!
Hi Josh, do you think you could do a photo and video comparison of the S5 to the X-T3 in terms of low light performance? I have a G90, borrowed an X-T4 and was somewhat disappointed in it because I somehow expected a lot more from its low light performance. And there is like only one S5/XT4 low light comparison on TH-cam...
I have the S5 already as my filmmaking camera but I’m thinking of possibly selling my A7RIV for the X-T4 to downsize and get noticed less (people thought Fuji was a film camera when I rented it. Don’t need a $3500 camera to be stolen lol). Is that a good idea?
How long did it take you to build up all the gear you use? I'm starting from scratch in the industry and it's really daunting to look at the initial investment for a full kit like this.
This kit took me around 3 years to get to where it is now. It doesn't happen overnight, but it's just about making the best investments for you at the time. Honestly, I'd say the best investments to make are in lighting and lenses if you're not doing any audio related work. If you are, then something I wished I did earlier was invest a decent audio set up! You earn a bit of money, invest some of it, and repeat to be honest. 3 years ago I didn't have much of a kit at all!
I found investing into new gear on a job to job basis to be most effective. You don’t need to buy it all at once, just the basics and specialise as you go
Thanks for all your videos man! I recently got a Desview R6 to use with my S5, but when I switch to 60fps everything on the screen turns blue and yellow. Almost like it drops the red color channel. Curious if you have this problem? Works great at 24 and 30fps. And it does the same thing on my G9.
@@JoshCameron yeah I’ve tried a few different cables. Thanks for replying though! It’s at least helpful to know they don’t all do it haha I guess I just got a bad unit.
Hey Josh, thought I'd give you a heads up - a lot of your affiliate links are "unavailable" rn and Ive noticed this a lot on TH-cam. I'm thinking Amazon changes the item locations/urls periodically, so you might want to periodically go back through old videos and update those so you still get paid.

how is manual focus on the 24-105? Is it still the variable focus by wire like on Micro 4/3 lenses that are challenging to focus?
It's not bad! I manual focus with it all the time with no issues :)

Hey, great video. Do you run the tascam straight into your camera as a line in or do you sync in post?
Hey Jonathan ! Thanks for the comment - No I run them separately and then sync in post :D I get better results that way :)
Man, please make a video with your best photo/video settings that u use on your S5 for paid videos, it's a must for us.
