    Watching this does not bring me any good memories cause I'm a victim of war. But America stepped in and rescued us, thank God. People may say this and that about Americans but I love them and am grateful for them saving our lives. Thank you America, I pray for you and wish you the best.

    No one mentioned the pilot who flew the last helicopter conveying the Ambassador including the entire NAVY Seal TEAM, who through his expertise, avoided the incoming missile by his "evasive move"..... that to me is the Hero of this entire summation, he truly deserves a medal.

      No mention of the 51 marines that went with the Seals either. It was a decent "B" movie re-enactment but they could've at least found some file footage of a CH-53E Super Stallion which is what the flew in on. There's no way 60 people could cram into what looked like a very old SH-3 Sea King (flying) or a SH-60 Black Hawk (landing). I've seen Seals many times while in the Navy (Mare Is, Dam Neck, Mayport) but never loaded up for combat, do Seals really carry such a variety of rifles? The LCdr looked like he was carrying a ranch rifle, a mini-14 I think.

    I still remember this morning when the sound of these helicopters waked me up as a child. Mogadishu was scary place to be. Yes, as proud Somali American, I can’t thank enough what America has done for Somalis during the civil war. When many countries closed their doors on our people, including Middle Eastern countries who call Somalia “an Arab League country,” America opened its doors for our people and welcomed thousands and thousands of Somalis as refugees with open hands. No other country did close to what America has done for our people, and yes, every wise man and woman of Somalia knows and are grateful of that.

      Kenya opened its doors to allow the biggest refugee camp in Africa still in existent today . Most Somalis intergrated into Kenya's community and are thriving. And Kenya wont get credit, huh? Just the west?🤦🏽‍♂️

    • @Adam-wi5bh
      @Adam-wi5bh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @This and that this story isn't about the Kenyans, is it? What you aren't mentioning either is it's run by the UN and subsequently funded by other counties. Maybe that wasn't known to the poster. So cut the anti west sentiment...

    • @thisandthat1523
      @thisandthat1523 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Adam-wi5bh You conveniently negated all the negatives that come with a large mass of poor confined fellows in a new country. By now you know the biggest recruiting ground for Al shabbab terrorist is that Somali refugee camp. The insecurity alone is of epic magnitude. And now they have refused to repatriate even after Kenya's military stabilized Somali country. Now what? The west bears negligible drawbacks, only negligible funding to the UN Global Refugee kitty. Guarantee this somali commenter still has 3/4 of his relatives safely in kenya's territory. The least he could do is a passing gratitude. But noo, he is acessing greasy burgers of the west and is greatful beyond measure as his heart arteries clog up and distant relatives cause mayhem in Kenya's territory.

      Yes! Finally a supporter of our nation's endangered seals, and other marine life. I have a passion for rescuing sick or otherwise endangered pinnipeds and setting them free in open waters. Its a damn shame we as humans have neglected our worlds wildlife, this exact time to the very minute, yesterday morning I was deep in thought about how our world is doomed because everyone is single handedly murdering our beloved semiaquatic water pup buddies. But as of now my hope has been reestablished thanks to reading yours and all of the other comments about support for our seals! Today is a day for the history books!!! Who would've known there would be so much support for our Pinniped friends in the comment section of a video that has nothing to do with marine life whatsoever, regardless Me and Collegues at the USSAAUMS Foundation of America and Beyond. God bless, Mr. Fighter! May God guide you and his beloved semiaquatic marine life, and justice for all.

    Interesting documentary. I've never heard of this operation before.. Every time that Mogadishu is mentioned it's always in the context of the failed Delta force/Rangers operation now commonly referred to as the Black hawk down.
    Given that out Tier 1 special force units (Delta force, SEAL Team 6) conduct many operations throughout the world every year, we don't know anything about 90% of those missions. Public is informed about a small percentage of these operations when it suits the Pentagon. Operations like catching Saddam Hussein, Operation Neptune Spear (Bin Laden raid), killing of Al-Baghdadi, rescue of captain Phillips from Somali pirates, etc.... But there are many many more operations that we never heard of nor will we.

      Just need to correct a statement made here. The 'failed' Mogadishu mission was actually a technical success. They achieved the objectives of capturing the targets, however the difficult rescue attempt made the big news and distorted the mission success.

      @@banyaga-di-palawan The objective was to capture General Aideed, and they failed, as his clan refused to hand him over him and defended him with their lives ( Hundreds of people died during that operation, mainly civilians) It ended , when they negotiated the release of the pilot captured dung Black Hawk Down. Aideed died three years later in Mogadishu.

      @@am.b5688 Thank you AMB for your take on the siuation. I have no intent to start a battle here as its disrespectful but may I offer this explanation for my previous comment.
      On October 3, 1993, US forces planned to seize senior SNA leaders, two of Aidids high-ranking lieutenants, during a meeting deep in the city. The raid was only intended to last an hour, but morphed into an overnight standoff and rescue operation extending into the daylight hours of the next day. While the goal of the operation was achieved, the poor intelligence on the SNA capability coupled with lack of leadership (Command & Control) amongst other issues, the engagement spiraled into the deadly Battle of Mogadishu. During the operation, Somali forces shot down two American UH60 helicopters using RPG7s. A desperate defense of the downed helicopters began and fighting lasted through the night to defend the survivors of the crashes. In the morning, a UNOSOM II armored convoy fought their way to the helicopters, incurring further casualties but eventually rescuing the survivors.
      Casualties included 18 dead American soldiers and 73 wounded, with Malaysian forces suffering one death and seven wounded, and Pakistani forces suffering one death and two injuries. There were between 315 and 2,000 Somali casualties. The battle shifted American foreign policy and led to an eventual pullout of the UN mission.
