You know it's gonna be a fun video when Smells Like Kenosha starts playing again while you're still examining your wreck ;p so a couple of notes on the loco: I did take careful care to balance the steam generation and usage. The class 89 and 86 both felt very.. 'easy mode'. so with this the goal was to be a pretty strong engine so long as you're on top of your fire and bar usage. also, yeah. sadly the knuckle couplers don't like tendered locomotives. Ziebach is aware but I'm not 100% sure we're going to get a fix soon. The cab is, as I'm sure you noticed. very 'not pennsy'. this is my bad, I didn't have good access to reference so I sort of just... yoinked the designs from DT&I #16 and #45, because they were both built by baldwin around the same time. I'm heading out to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in the spring to take some proper pics
The mod creators over on DV are all absolute legends. All of them making some truly fantastic stuff, and I absolutely love the little easter eggs they’ve thrown in for you Hyce. It means you’ve made a good impression on them. They’re all legends
5:35 Hyce: A Very familiar Big 6 Chime whistle I still remember that Video! it was great fun to be part of the Premiere of that (the derail Valley stream afterwards was also Great fun)
I think you might have fixed filesize or fixed bitrate or constant bitrate or something like that configured somewhere in your Video processing workflow, maybe in OBS or maybe if you are using any tool to re-encode your videos. Why I say that is whenever the camera stops moving the video quality shoots back up immediately. That would be as there is less data when the camera is stable so it's much easier for the encoder to maintain the given limits. You should really have it set to variable bitrate or variable filesize.
For some reason I was expecting you to spawn the DE6 to chase the bois down long head forwards Plus love the "this is fine" with smells like Kenosha playing in the background
That’s so neat to see the PRR F-class get some love, you almost never see them, yet they’re a very handsome engine. And as much as the Pennsy deserves to be teased for not being nearly so “standard,” many of those parts could easily be re-used to easily make so many other small PRR locomotive classes. What an awesome mod!
24:55 *_YES, YOU SHOULD!_* It's also just really cool having the cars actually equipped with handbrakes(gives it more of that realism/American homey feel).
We gotta get an E6 and a K4 next, or maybe even the strong boi, an I1sa! Also, they need to add a proper Pennsy 3 chime or Banshee to go along with them!
22:45 heard that music, remembered how spicy that junction is and knew you'd pee in a cup. What I failed to imagine is how much badly you managed to bottle it.
Regardless of the weird cab setup, the F3 was such an awesome locomotive to see carrying the American torch. (Plus it folds up with its tender so rapidly it’s like they designed it to be an emergency survival tent 🤣)
It looks great. Love the fact that the whistle is modeled after your whistle. Also it’s priceless that you welcome it to your railroad by hauling explosives. The double fire box door looks wired lol. If anyone makes more skins for this loco, they should put give it extra Beens on above the doors
Hyce is taking derail valleys new environmentally friendly delivery services to whole new heights. Would love to see a mod for an auusie loco known as heavy Harry. Just a teeny tiny H class 4-8-4.
Great fun Mark, beautiful loco too! Kudos to Greg. I look forward to your 101 video about the Stephenson valve gear. Fab to see your whistle immortalized and will love to hear once installed, the original sound of which (I heard from your video) is amazing! Thanks again.
A cool rainy Saturday for me. So what am I doing? Folding laundry watching this. You keep managing the engine and checking the coal as you learn the engine and it reminds me to glance at my wood stove and check the fire there from time to time. A good morning. Like that you, or rather all of us are getting US engines to see as well as all the other equipment.
I could be wrong, but I think the Central RR of NJ’s camel back steam locomotives had two fire box doors. Not on all of their types, but I’m almost certain they did. Why I have no clue. All I can say on behalf of all of from the east is this; we do stuff that makes zero sense. That’s where I’m originally from Hyce, but MO is home now.
While talking about designing PRR nineteen-teens small steam, when/if your designer friend does the E6s 4-4-2, Atlantic, have them read caption on page 127 of Alvin F. Staufer's 1962 book Pennsy Power and design that little quirk in to the locomotive's behavior. Quote: "Bud Lothar got this quote from an E6s engineer, 'nicest hand fired engines ever built. Speed Queens rode beautifully but at 75 m.p.h. started a 'tipsy' side motion that many times scared crews, as they felt top heavy. Once up to 80 m.p.h. they settled back down and could keep right on climbing with no effort or effect on riding quality. They were very easy on coal and water and were the pacesetters for timetable operations. ' " How cool is that, "It's behaving badly! What do I do? 😲 Go faster, that'll fix it!" 😁 And from what I've read in various places through the decades, it wasn't really determined how Fast those little 4-4-2 locos _Could_ go, 100? Yep. 110? Yep. 120? Likely. 125? Likely.
I hope the F3 gets another run. I'm impressed it was maintaining some boiler pressure and climbing a grade with the brakes dumped the whole time. It'll be neat to see it run without the drag.
Two things about the Pennsylvania railroad. Them claiming to be the "standard railroad of the world" is the same energy as Lionel Claiming "Standard gauge" when they literally invented that track gauge. And "Standard railroad of the world" is more correctly described as "standard railroad of their delusions"
Hyce you can also lean into the engine to see the internals of the loco a bit better with this model. Discovered it by accident. Just press Q or E when on either side of the deck.
Banjo signals, tracks numbered wrong, it’s amazing they can do 20mph on this shit. These pigtail motherfuckers have no business being out here! THEY WRECKED THE CENTRAL!
As for the difficulties trying to view the valve gear, don't worry Hyce! Altfuture is planning on adding more camera functions in the Simulator update, including an external camera! P.S.: Maybe it'd be a good idea to add Cutoff back to the HUD...
Just a wild guess without looking it up: maybe the double firedoor would be for when the engineer does double duties, like during shunting or smth? Either way, amazing model!
More likely to better spread the coal out across the whole firebox area. You don’t want to dump all the coal you throw in the firebox all in one area, you want to spread it out evenly across the whole surface, so to better reach the left and right edges of the firebox because it’s Belpair is probably why it has two doors. No railroad would willingly pay for two firemen per train.
OMG...OMG, I love you Hyce you know without knowing how to start my day your vocalizations(screams, etc.) when you get squished by things on line, and accidently( yeah rite) blowing things up with the explody bois, I laughed repeatedly big belly laughs. Well I found a page on Old #6 by Alco, I was 8 and not 4 on it's last trip, It weighed 117,000 Pounds 107,000 was on the 55 inch drivers. It had 18 by 24 inch cylinders, and operated at a boiler pressure of 180 P.S.I. for a tractive effort of 21,630 pounds. It was built in 1909 and burned coal. There I revised the record here, As I remember it had a throaty 5 or 6 chime whistle, there was harmony, it sounded good, that I remember correctly as sour notes made me sick. This engine wasn't as good as your F3 but it founded my dream, I'm 6'5 its quite a bit taller than me. Like I said before you're not stupid untill you really do get squished.
The good news is now I don't feel so self-conscious about my tendency to murder the boiler pressure myself, seeing as a professional engineer has done likewise.
Heard the vw/chevy stories with Kan. In high-school I had a 94 honda accord, 4cyl, manual for a few years. Short story I love burnouts and in 3yrs I cooked 8 pairs(2) of front tires off it. I was also rewarded with about half dozen broke cv axels.
The pennsy had 2 fire doors because they didn’t adopt stokers widely until the late 30s, and they often used multiple firemen on some occasions. Even some k4’s have them

Not a gamer (Tetris is as far as I ever got) but the pyrometer gauge had me laughing! Is that based on something that really appeared on steam engines? Also pretty sick that the six-chime is in game :)
Very nice looking steam loco, good work to the guy made it. 👍 and lmao those physics when spawning it close together. Also were there any somewhat famed companies with blue coloured steam locomotives? and are there DV mods of said locos? Cause when I one day play the game I'd love to be able to have a blue loco, but would prefer it be a real company livery (if it exists) over a custom one.
God I love the look of it the no buffers is the best especially with the coupler mod. Now I actually do need to make a buffer delete mod. Hope it works in vr or will. Also multiplayer so you can have an actual fire man would be amazing. There is a mod for it but I am sure it would murder my gpu as it simulates for both client and server user.
Hey Hyce, just started playing derail valley and i recently made a crazy run that i think even you would think it's funny, it was 15 car, 2 job logistical haul going from food factory to the harbor going thru the steel mill and south forest using the bottom route with a single DE2 as power.
Hey Hyce! Have you seen the video uploaded by Tom Ingall about the Tornado trying to reach 100mph? I am an absolute steam noob, but am fascinated by the technology. I really enjoyed the video and thought you might too!
The answer to the right and left fire doors is that was a log burner and it was a way they had kept the fire burning evenly but will still run on coal quite well..... Although if it was a real locomotive they would modify the fire doors to be one opening instead of two separate ones
It's amazing with their technology of their day and how they used pencil and paper to draw up the charts and used slide rules for the measurements to build the locomotives and it works.....
I want a Cumberland Valley Railroad skin for it. They had quite a few PRR 2-6-0 locomotives before being fully absorbed into the Pennsy. Not sure if they were F-3s exactly. Got to find my History book on it.
You know it's gonna be a fun video when Smells Like Kenosha starts playing again while you're still examining your wreck ;p

It's still a fantastic mod, very well done, and put a great big smile on my face. Cheers to you, Greg!
Nice to see finally see some AMERICAN FREEDOM trains cause the explosions for once
I think hyces only real complaint was the brass disk. And brakes apparently
Hey Greg great job on the mod and I was wondering if you could make a 4 8 8 2 cab forward steam locomotive for derail valley?
@@TheRoadburner99 I would love to do larger articulated locomotives, but derail valley doesn't support it

Hey for railroad online could you talk to the devs and see if you could add an 4014 or a 844, or would their be problems on the tracks?
Should have spawned the Super 86 xD.
That looks like an F3c class 2-6-0 from the Pennsylvania Railroad.
That's your whistle! You're famous.🤣
The only thing we can hope for next is a Pennsylvania K4 to make some real highspeed passenger runs
28:39 LOL IM.DEAD
27:00 Wait, aren't these the cars that make a guest appearance in the latest DV video? :)
Wow, it even has no buffers!
I want a Cumberland Valley Railroad skin for it. They had quite a few PRR 2-6-0 locomotives before being fully absorbed into the Pennsy. Not sure if they were F-3s exactly. Got to find my History book on it.
I should play this game. I like playing games with choo-choos
You should, it's a lot of fun :)
I think I just witnessed roughly 20 minutes of Hyce driving a steam locomotive in derail valley in a sane manner
Hyce you feeling ok?
He just wants belly scritches
