Hi friends! I'm away on vacation at the moment and to ease the workload I have been going through some previously-lost Oceanliner Designs videos and republishing them. This one was a casualty of a copyright takedown and it has been re-worked and re-uploaded for you to enjoy again for the first time in over a year. This is one of the first videos I made in conjunction with the legends at Titanic Honor and Glory! I hope you like it :) ~Mike
Where are you going? Edit: at 2:42 I think I might have watched the original. I’m not sure though. I know for a fact however, that I did listen to this part on another vid
For the whistles, I was sure you were going to mention the 1999 event where they sounded the whistle publicly, to huge cheers. Quite emotional, I must say.
Why do I tear up at every titanic video? This one had me actually crying when I think of those brave souls in the engine and boiler rooms keeping the lights on till almost the end. A good movie to watch is Saving the Titanic. It’s all about those men and not the passengers. Excellent movie that came out in 2012. I highly recommend watching it.
I like that you can appreciate the hellish death those guys faced. They were true heros and most dont give them credit for their selfless actions. Cheers
Those whistles were on the bottom of the ocean for 80 years, longer than the average human lifespan, and they still worked. If the company that made them still exists, I think they deserve a bonus.
And yet, the porcelain doll head has never been seen again. (since Bob Ballard found the ship) The doll's head in Cameron's movie was a fabricated one, inspired by and made to look like the one discovered by Ballard.
So emotional hearing Titanic's whistles after so many years. Hauntingly beautiful. She was a beauty. Titanic will never be forgotten. I'm a big Titanic nerd. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm one of the people who is obsessed with the titanic. I was 9 when it was discovered. Watched the program on holiday, had books and a book that made 3 different paper models. 1 was half the titanic showing rooms and I was always fascinated by the pool. The 2nd was a mid sinking titanic and the 3rd was the wreck on the floor.
yeah. i was 3 when it was discovered, and grew up on cape cod, a mile from the ocean..... so shipwrecks were a huge thing for me. i was obsessed from the beginning! i remember going to the museum in Boston when the huge piece that they had brought up was touring... i think i was like. 15. it was the most incredible thing!
@@roguetheotter I used to be in 2 minds about the artifacts being brought up but now can understand the importance of them. I would love to get to Dublin.
i was riding the bus home, having just been discharged from the military, and the DJ on the radio said, "today in history, Titanic sank in 1912, 75 years ago today" - thot it was a neat coincidence and read "a night to remember" and got hooked - my poker buddies know not to bring up the subject, cuz they've heard more than they care to know.
Always had such mad respect for that orchestra too; they played together until the very end to add whatever little calmness they could to a devastating situation.
@@lennonsvrchannel Because there's a really awful trend these days to use 'soft' language. It's you who are being sensitive: The people on the Titanic were killed. They didn't 'pass'. They were killed - and violently, for those who didn't drown. Avoiding death is an insult to those who were killed that night.
Growing up in the Chelsea section of Manhattan in the 1960s and early 70s, I got used to hearing the distinctive whistles of different oceanliners and seeing them glide by on the Hudson, towering over the low-rise industrial buildings near the docks. The most distinctive whistle I remember is that of the SS France (launched 1960). Her whistle was deep and sonerous -- more a horn than a whistle. I always knew when she was going by. She was decommissioned in 1974, then rechristened the Norway and refitted as a cruise ship. She was finally scrapped in 2005 after a boiler explosion killed 8 crew members in 2003, but she wasn't the ship she used to be. It was a sad end to a magnificent lady. And I still remember her deep whistle!
The wreck was discovered 16 days after my 9th birthday. I read the Dec 85 issue of National Geographic and absolutely marveled at the pictures of the wreck contained within and the words by Robert Ballard describing what it was like to lay the first eyes on this ship in 73 years. And so began a lifelong fascination with Titanic and her story. I used to have reservations about the recovery of artifacts from the sea floor. I was of the opinion that they should be left alone out of reverence and respect to those that died there. But after seeing the exhibit at the Luxor hotel in Las Vegas, seeing the personal items made me think and wonder about the people that that owned and used these things. I thought about the lives they must have lived, the people they knew and loved and the hopeful futures they were looking forward to that never came. I thought about everything that these items had seen and been through to eventually make their way to me. It made me feel connected in a way to the people that were there, those that survived and perished both. It was a bittersweet experience.
Thanks to my dad for telling me all about Titanic and showing me THAT National Geographic magazine when I was 10. He kept it till the 97 film got me interested and I showed everyone in school the pictures of the dolls head and champagne bottles.
I went to the Titanic exhibit at Melbourne Museum recently and saw some of these artifacts. Was absolutely fascinating what they were able to recover and were able to trace the actual owners of objects. It was amazing how they replicated parts of the ship as well, you really got a feel for actually being there.

When Olympic was scrapped in the 1930s, her fittings were bought by the White Swan Hotel in Alnwick, Northumberland which is near me. You can see wall panels, Staircases, doors, sinks and more.
I really hate that I have to correct our friend Mike Brady, but in 6:32 he said something incorrect. He said that Robert Ballard and his team were "shocked" to find the Titanic in 2 pieces. Actually Ballard gambled on that, because if the ship did split in half (as some of the survivors claimed), there will be a debris trail, which will be much easier to find that the ship itself.
I love how the guys who made raise the titanic movie didn’t take advice from passengers who said it ripped apart and decided to use an in tact ship. 4 years later and they realize they screwed up when Robert Ballard said it was broken in half.
I saw the movie years ago, and while that type of movie isn't really my thing, it got me interested in the actual history of not just Titanic but all the famous ships of history. I downloaded that demo of Honor and Glory and man, I hope they're able to finish that project because I'll gladly pay money for a complete recreation of this beautiful ship. Modern ships are cool, but nothing compares to that classic design of that period. Even simple everyday things were ornate works of art made by hand. I love the convenience of modernity, but it sure isn't as beautiful as these things were.
Love it! I was and still am Obsessed with titanic from late 80’s until now, i found all of my old titanic books and my Youngest has read half of them already, he fell in love with the great ship!
I love watching your videos, bro. I don't know if it's just because of your British accent or perhaps the snappy way that you dress, but you bring a level of class to your videos that is quite frankly, unmatched in my opinion. Big fan, from the states!
I must say yours is one of the most interesting, entertaining, and mind-blowing channels I've seen on TH-cam (or elsewhere). I congratulate you on your content and on your delivery! Bravo! 🚢👏
As an engineer, Mike, I'd like to see an expedition to raise those two double-bottom sections along with the five single-ended boilers from the No.1 boiler-room and the parts of the two triple-expansion engines broken off raised and be given anti-corrosion treatment before being displayed in a suitable museum (Harland and Wolfe would no doubt want to examine them).
Man, I remember when they found the bent hull pieces. It was quite a discovery, extremely exciting. Changed everything. Always nice to think back, and to plot forward. What else are we going to find?

I love how the guys who made raise the titanic movie didn’t take advice from passengers who said it ripped apart and decided to use an in tact ship. 4 years later and they realize they screwed up when Robert Ballard said it was broken in half.
It’s always nice to see our friend Mike Brady
It would be nice to cover more naval warship stories from different wars.
This gets me wanting to get a model of the ship's interior imported to a VR program like Resonite to explore the ship's halls back in it's prime.
Demo 401 and H&G may eventually adopt VR support
I saw the movie years ago, and while that type of movie isn't really my thing, it got me interested in the actual history of not just Titanic but all the famous ships of history. I downloaded that demo of Honor and Glory and man, I hope they're able to finish that project because I'll gladly pay money for a complete recreation of this beautiful ship. Modern ships are cool, but nothing compares to that classic design of that period. Even simple everyday things were ornate works of art made by hand. I love the convenience of modernity, but it sure isn't as beautiful as these things were.
Beautiful work & video . Well done Mike . 👍
Love it! I was and still am
Obsessed with titanic from late 80’s until now, i found all of my old titanic books and my
Youngest has read half of them already, he fell in love with the great ship!
Nice! Just in time for my coffee ☕️
I love watching your videos, bro. I don't know if it's just because of your British accent or perhaps the snappy way that you dress, but you bring a level of class to your videos that is quite frankly, unmatched in my opinion. Big fan, from the states!
I’m glad we’re friends Mike! Awesome content as usual!
Am I the only one waiting for an episode of Airliner Designs?
edit: ive caused a war in the comments 💀
Yes you are
No.
Probably..
I mean this is *oceanliner* designs.
From a channel dedicated to Oceanliners? Yes.
@@TCW838 He has a channel called Airliner Designs, which doesn't have any uploads yet other than a trailer.
I've been on a cruise ship when the engines have broken down. And you do notice the absolute silence 😮
It's our friend, Mike Brady, with stuff about Titanic! Get into your easy chair and enjoy!
Have a nice vacation, Mike!
I must say yours is one of the most interesting, entertaining, and mind-blowing channels I've seen on TH-cam (or elsewhere). I congratulate you on your content and on your delivery! Bravo! 🚢👏
It's horrifying to think that if they'd just had two or three more seconds they'd have gotten through
This is fascinating. So easily explained. Not rushed. Your voice is so nice to listen to as well 😊
Second time , I have see your amazing contribution to Titanic . Thanks so much for posting up ❤
I agree with the preservation of wrecks but I feel we need to preserve everything we can and put things in museums while it’s still possible
Hello, my friend Mike Brady, from Oceanliner Designs!
Hi, Mike Brady from Oceanliner Designs. This was yet another awesome video. Thank you!
I honestly can’t get enough of these titanic videos , literally been obsessed my whole life. Rip 🪦 to those who lost their lives.
What a great start to my morning!
Oceanliner Designs...always an engrossing "TH-cam site". Thank you, Mr.Brady, and your colleagues.
Man, I remember when they found the bent hull pieces.
It was quite a discovery, extremely exciting. Changed everything.
Always nice to think back, and to plot forward. What else are we going to find?
Hey Mike Brady, I love the channel and been watching for quite some time. Always been fascinated by the titanic but you’ve shown me so many other incredible ships to learn about. Had 1 question for you. Wanted to know what your thoughts are on the USS Enterprise being scrapped? I would love to see you make a video on the incredible life of the enterprise!

Thanks Mike. This was more informative than I thought it was going to be initially. Great video.
