In this seminar at the 2021 DeerFest in WI, Jeremy Moore walks you through some of the steps and tools he uses when training a dog to track and find wounded deer. As a professional dog trainer specializing in training dogs to recover wounded deer and finding shed antlers, Jeremy walks you through how he starts with real young pups, as well as steps he takes along the process. Deer tracking, and tracking in general, is in almost every breed of dogs DNA, and trailing wounded deer is all about bringing those traits out.
In this seminar, Jeremy will teach you how to use the DogBone Game Recovery Kit. Jeremy developed and patented this kit to train his own game recovery dog, and has trained countless dogs to do just that using his deer tracking dog kit.

Good stuff Jeremy! Lots of good info here! One of the best things I heard you say was the response to the question of “when do you move on”. When they’re ready. We get so many questions from prospective clients asking how long the training takes to get them to a certain benchmark. My response is always it depends on the dog.
Glad too hear about the age not being wrong I adopted dog with I think a lot of talent he already made 1 recovery for me blind and I didn't know great stuff been watching for hours to reinforce for hours

What’s the earliest you would start a dog? I have a two month old German Shepard I want to train to track deer. We’re about to start six weeks of the basics sitting, heel…etc. I don’t want to over whelm him. Thanks for any advice.
You can start them when they are 8 weeks.... 8 months... or 8 years.... we don't base it on time. You can start bringing out a dogs natural tracking dog abilities the day you bring them home but as we always preach, the foundation comes first. Can dogs locate hogs with out the hog being injured?
