Your Petunias make me smile!! They are my favorite flower and it makes my day to see them mid-winter. I have a Croton that is 30+ years old. It sits in my living room in a pot so big that I have it on one of those wheeled platforms so I can move it when I need to.
Thank you for sharing. I have to repot my croton and I was feeling nervous until I watched your video. I just got cuttings from my grandmother's pothos. She also gave me a butterfly plant. Super excited for all the plant babies!
Hey Buddy, I was always told to break up the roots and even cut the roots that were clumped together. I watch all your videos and love them, I have learned so much.
You can do that if they are really badly root bound or if you're planting in the ground. In fact, I just potted up 13 plants the other day and did exactly what you mentioned. They were pretty root bound so I used a tree saw and sawed the bottom 2 inches off of the root ball before planting. In the case of these little houseplants, they weren't that bad and I didn't need to go to all the trouble.
Great information. Working with plants is so rewarding. Wow, if I brought my plants into the kitchen sink to water them I would be in BIG TROUBLE with the wife. Have fun.
Hey Mike I started watching your videos this pasts summer to care for my Petunias and you’ve turned me into a plant enthusiast! I have started my own collection and it’s all thanks to you 🤣
Floridian here. I've seen one planted next to a house, over 5 feet, possibly 6 footer. It's getting close to the homeowners eaves. I have 2 of the spiral crotons. Cant wait until they get taller. I trained some pothos cuttings I cut from nearby woods, to grow up my oak tree, the leaves get huge the higher they climb. They are Georgous. The cold killed back both my crotons and pothos a year ago but they came back.
Dont be jealous. I'm struggling with a few house plants, well plants that want to be outside, I bought to be inside but they just dont like it. I have small peace lily and small varigated dracena in my office at work, the tips keep turning brown, same with the mass cane dracena at home. The peace lily's and other dracena planted in the yard does phenomenally. I really, really, really, wanted houseplants but I may have to put them out of their misery and take them outside.
I was given golden pathos at Christmas in a pretty vase, and recently discovered that the plant was still in the original plastic cup with no soil in it! I found out the plant was started in just water to develop the root system, and was never placed into soil. Is it going to go into shock if I plant it now in soil. I am amazed at how dense the root system is and think it should be placed into a larger container now with soil. Thanks for the house plant video.
Nice video, Mike! I have a croton and it is more like on a woody stalk. It's the dead of winter here in Wisconsin with roughly 2 feet of snow on the ground. My poor croton would like more light I think. It's by a west facing window. I'm interested in the orchid you have there!
Those are two of my favorite house plants. :) I recently discovered croton because of your channel! Lately my croton isn't happy tho, but I think it's not getting enough light.
Karen Akers and Mac Garner asked the two questions: Do the clear pots have drainage holes and why didn't you pull apart or cut the roots before re-potting-- something I was trained to do by my Dad and Grandfather-- both former farmers.
Yes, they have drainage holes and in this situation they really didn't need any fussing with the roots. If they're badly root bound then I will break apart the roots.
mike had a question about drainage and roots but was answered but do a video about cutting on the photho I have some and wants make sure I'm doing it right
Yes, there are 2 drainage holes in the bottom, one on each side about an inch long right at the bottom on the corner. I cut them the same way I cut the dixie cup holes.
yeah, mike. nice and neat job of replanting. i have a few pothos varieties that do well but forget the crotons--they become croutons in my environment. i can't grow them with a brown thumb. wish you luck with yours. carmine p.
Reminder. Crotons are poisonous to pets. I never water from the tap because of the chlorine in the water. If you let it sit in a watering can for a day , the chlorine disperses into the air. Then I put it in a smaller 2 liter container and add my plant food. Shake and share with plants. When I use the watering can I tend to overwater. So just added my 2 cents from my green thumb. I’m 71 and have over 30 plants in my apartment! Love my crotons. Do watch for spider mites on the croton. Thanks. Nice show you have!
I just got my croton and golden pothos via Home Depot. They are large and healthy but in small containers. Here's hoping I don't kill them when I re-pot them. Interesting about not trimming the roots.
Nice video. Its getting close enough to spring here that I am wanting to get started sprouting seeds for some of the plants that take a long time to get going, such as pepper plants. OAG
I have both of these, still in the store, original pot. I would like to split the 2 croton in the 1 pot into 2 and put my mama pathos in a larger pot, I'm really surprised that you put them in just dirt with no drainage or rocks! Interesting.
Well, it was potting soil, but it has plenty of drainage on its own. I don't believe that putting rocks in the bottom of pots does any good and only takes up space where roots could be growing, but that's just my opinion.
@@MikeKincaid79 learned something new. I'm not very experienced with plants so i thought that if it was one that needed really good drainage rocks were a must have. What do you mean by "it was potting soil" does the soil you use make a big difference? Like for succulents and such? Or can all indoor plants be in potting soil?
No, but that's a good idea. I live in an area where we have so many ferns growing outside that I never considered growing them in containers as houseplants but I guess I should start.
Hey, Mike watch out if there is water getting trapped in the stem it will cause stem rot, i water mine from the bottom and never allow the water to go past the bottom stem and let it sit for 30 seconds to a minute.

You should find them at nurseries in the spring. They grow wild all around this part of the state so you may be able to find them growing in a farmer's field and ask for cuttings. We've probably got 10 or 20 of them growing wild on my property.
Hey mike i also bought that hp k8nd of promix. I havent got around to using it yet but i wanted to know something, does it hold water longer than other promix soil mixes? Or whats the difference?
Depends on the plants you have in it and their size. It holds a lot of water and as long as the plant isn't root bound then you only have to water once a week or so.
It's just an industrial 8 light fixture for fluorescent t8 bulbs. It's meant to be hardwired but I put a plug on it. Found it online and had it shipped to my house for around 100 bucks.

I will try to figure it out
I have a pothos. My great grandmother gave a little piece of hers to me and I put it in some dirt and now it's almost as big as hers! But she takes bits off of her pothos alot and has a ton of them.
I was just starting to type asking what you fertilized them with then you said you were going to do a video on it so I'll wait 😂
Yeah, I'll get that one out soon.

Probably to prevent lawsuits. I've handled this stuff with no problem at all. Just don't eat it, lol.
Stop it you're going to make me want to grow house plants. Lol my wife's going to kill me.
She can't kill ya, it's against the law. Now get on with the houseplants!
