    Dude, I love your videos. They are probably the most efficient guitar videos on youtube. I learn the most from the least amount of time on your videos. Of course it helps that you're one of the four horsemen when it comes to guitar. Thanks for the great content!

    Vox for cleans , dunlop for overdriven or dist sound, personally i prefer dunlop since i tend to use more the wah with overdrive or distortion.

  • @nickf9392
    @nickf9392 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I have both, the Vox is a little bit brighter while the cry baby is more mellow, rounder and noticeably warmer. I also prefer the throw on the cry baby, its less harsh and more musical.

    • @wilmoney4619
      @wilmoney4619 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean throw? Sorry Fairly new.

    • @nickf9392
      @nickf9392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wilmoney4619 The throw is the relationship of how fast (or slow) you move your foot through the range of motion compared to how tight the wah effect is. Some wah pedals have a tight wah curve, others have a more slow, broad wah effect as you move your foot. Imagine a tight bell curve vs a wider bell curve. For me, too tight of a wah response makes the wah much harder to control or work in a controlled expressive way.

    What a great comparison review. Thanks.

    I've tried both and here's my verdict.
    VOX sounds brighter and definitely nails the sound of old school wah pedals. You can easily get the wah effects of Jimi Hendrix out of it, but due to its overtly bright character it ain't suitable for modern high gain musical genres.
    The Crybaby sounds bit darker and certainly geared more towards high gain applications.
    Both of them are two completely different kind of wah pedals geared at two different kinds of players. I think a better comparison will be between Box V847A vs Dunlop Jimi Hendrix JH-1B because they are more similar to each other.

  • @Brayden329
    @Brayden329 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think the VOX sounds clearer with more sweep. Maybe it's the treble that does that but I kinda prefer it, even though I want to prefer the Crybaby for some reason. I've also seen some great reviews on the EHX wailer wah.

  • @richardcairns6802

    Loved this video, great playing and it was nice to hear the same licks played through each pedal. I preferred the Cry Baby. The icing on the cake would have been hearing them in a mix with drums, bass and rhythm guitar, but this was still a very cool and useful comparison. Thanks. Oh, and that Epi is awesome. :)

    I have been trying out both and the Vox "to me" is cleaner, more predictable and $70 cheaper. Close your eyes and make a decision based on sound and feel not brand name in this case. Both are fantastic and I can honestly say that I wasn't thinking about the money when I bought mine. Great video by the way.

  • @carlosm3895
    @carlosm3895 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I can hear a fatter, almost more compressed, tone of the Crybaby which can appeal more to some tastes. I personally prefer the Vox's more open and harmonic tone which can be too harsh for some.
    I totally agree that the Crybaby is easier to rock, but I'm too heavy footed for it and feel better with the Vox's extra resistance. I think any preference towards either of these industry standards are pretty valid enough

      gurvirj95v2 I have a v847a and sounds great clean, but when on gain its loses its sweep. It starts to sound like it’s either wide open or wide shut, no sweep in between, just flips kind of abruptly no matter how careful you are with your feet. Yesterday I changed the pot, and no difference. I’d suggest getting a cry baby, ive never heard this problem with them

    • @thehonkening1
      @thehonkening1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Elias Levinson Ahh I see. After watching many many videos of Vox vs Crybaby and 'crybaby gcb-95' vs 'crybaby classic', I ended up going with the classic. It doesn't have that problem you mentioned, works great.

    Vox has a wider sweep range and a tad more emphasis/resonance on the "sweet spot"? The sweep range seems to have more extension on the high-end. Or then it seems like so, because the resonance of the filter is greater in vox than in dunlop. More resonance = more "vocal" sounding.

  • @raoulduke3239

  • @ronniemacias2994

    The only comparison I hear is the vox has more of a growl wah to it and the cry baby has more of a vocal wah and kinda whiney. Hence the name. Cry baby.. lol..
    Both are amazing, everyone has their own preferences and styles which is suitable for them. Me personally, I'm going with the vox. Thanks for the outstanding video. Cheers

    I finally got to A/B my '84 GCB95 with Stack o Dimes vs Vox McCoy 848 reissue w/Fasel. There's some tone difference for sure, more than I hear in this YT comparison, with the Vox more quacky and vocal BUT, the Dunlop built better and not sure I cared about the tone difference in the end. They were both good just slight flavor difference. Keeping the Dunlop for now.

  • @PierceThirlen2
    @PierceThirlen2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Sorry, but the test is INVALID as it doesn't take into consideration the tonal effects of input and output loading. You need to completely substitute one pedal for the other. You cannot perform a valid test by connecting one pedal in cascade with a second pedal. The Vox 847, as well as it's predecessors severely load the output of your guitar pickups and cause a loss of treble. I owned both an early 1967 Vox Clyde McCoy and a 1967 Cry Baby with the name on the top of the pedal and they sounded identical and their circuits inside were identical.
