Great game. One of the first games in which you needed to consider when to use a silent weapon and when it is time to use something more powerful (and noisy).
I remember this game taking FOREVER to load, with many times not loading. I’ve only played this a few times because that, but I will always remember the game music!
I would start the load process and once the music would start i'd stop the tape player and then the music would just loop on the loading music. Same for Yie Ar Kung Fu.
Sounds like they didn't bother to code a restriction that prevents you from freeing the POWs before getting the helicopter, so the next time you get in it, it thinks you've already done that and starts you at the camp, and the next time you land it doesn't recognize that you've freed them and lets you walk around.
The restriction must be freeing the lone soldier and getting to helicopter, but one of the variables isn't reset when you start round 2. Very nice catch.
@@javierdumond7054To return home you pressed return. It was just one of the key presses wiggling the joystick in port 1 produced due to some Commodore weirdness, along with space, 2 and ⬅️ iirc.
Very cool. There was also a 'bad ending' I got once back in the day, but I cant remember exactly how i did it, I think I cut the guy free and got the chopper, but just flew to the border instead of rescuing the guys in the camp first. I have to replay it again.
@@finnishretroguy9952 Just tried it, and my mistake. Doing what I said just triggers what you got in this video, endless waves of bad guys for breaking sequence. The real way to get the bad ending is to not free the POW tied up and just go directly to the helicopter.
Oh, thanks! I need to try this also. You see, I am trying to find out how exactly I have made Rambo to run with super speed. It sometimes happens when I press random keys with joystick directions. But how exactly, is still a mystery I'm trying to solve.
Most C64 games either had sound or music, not a lot that had both back then. A lot of modern homebrew games do, but back then if you used all three channels for music, then it was practically impossible to use sound effects as well. Commando was the same way, as were the C64 versions of Ghosts n Goblins and Green Beret
Also it seems possible to get Rambo to run with super speed, but so far I could never reproduce this effect in a controlled way. This is also somehow related to return + something else I have done. The run so far has stopped in the nearest tree, but could be useful "feature" in some places, if I just knew how to launch this effect when needed...
Wow the memories. The music just comes straight back to me after all these years. One of the few games that I actually completed.
M-60 for open field killing. RPG and explosive arrow for clearing trees. Still remember after almost 40 years.

@finnishretroguy9952 Yes, I found that out the hard way. I used to turn the music off and just listened to the sounds of the weapons going off.
That music made the long loading time total worth it
lol I remember the load time and I remember the load screen said “patients in a virtue” on the bottom.
@@Bigheadedwon My version didn't say that, you must have a copy version.
Memories…5th/6th grade1986-ish. Copied this game from a friend. It was gold!

Rambo 2 C64 and Rambo 3 on the Sega Megadrive. Pure gold.
The music is still insane! :)
The SID chip is timeless 👍
All hail the SID chip.
Music is sick
soon as that intro music kicked in, I was tying on my imaginary headband and loading my explosive tipped arrows
Where's the extra level?

I forgot all about this game. Cool find!
Another fine example of the C64 music being better than the game.
Was it not return and space bar (4 fast heli) maybe joystick as well?
Holding return with joystick direction will launch "turbo copter".
I like the BGM.
Morricone
All the times I've completed this game and never knew this.
you needed two joysticks, pointing in opposite direction, to fly with super speed 😊
I think that Return-button did the same thing?
@@tituolna 🤯 really!?
@@javierdumond7054 I remember reading that from a local computer magazine. Didn't have the game (or a C64 either) so couldn't test it myself.

Hitman has a jungle level, just like this, where hitman has to fight a drug baron who can't feel pain cause he is on his own dope ! LOL.
Did they kill Rambo in the end? (:
Not exactly an extra level, just a bug.
Not a bug - it's a feature! LOL
A bug IS a feature 😅
I'm fucking here for this!

Such a great game
How do you manage to get the chopper to go fast like that? It was the hardest part, b/c the Hind is right on your ass the whole time...
The secret of "turbo copter" is RETURN-key. This, and other similar tricks are instructed on another video. th-cam.com/video/58_CuUPr4r0/w-d-xo.html

The Hind making it famous return in MGS on the PS1
Great find! Its the war you cant win. Ask Murdoch ;)
Best chip music ever
The music!
great music but this game sucked because it was way too hard
Kiitos! 😺

A good computer and a game, it's bad that there are no sounds
You could turn the music off and just have sounds of shooting.
