Dear Ambassador Haber, some knowledge of (or even just a quick online search about) traditional architecture and/or societal norms can provide an answer to your question "why were there a ladies' and a gentlemen's parlor". It was considered more appropriate and maybe "naturally desired" for the genders to mingle separately after a shared meal. Assuming (until recently mostly correctly - thank goodness that has changed) that the men were the diplomats and the women the "plus one", each would retreat to their respective parlor to presumably either smoke and discuss political deals, or gossip and discuss flower arrangements... Even in your more modern building, the architectural elements reflect underlying bias - the ladies' parlor associated with "softer" rounder shapes and lighter colors, while the gentlemen's has "stronger" straight lines and darker colors. Time to mix it up now!

Like 'von Steuben' - It's not STOOBEN but Stoiben as 'eu' is pronounced 'oi' in German. Or why do you call it 'pool' instead of finding a German word for it? Watched a video about Berlin where a German guide called 'Brandenburg' Brändenberg... LOL - I subscribe to German newsletters, magazines, etc so I can hear German the way it should be pronounced - not americanized - PLEASE!
Anja Johanna The German word for pool is Schwimmbad. And I totally agree with you that it sounds weird to adjust to a wrong sound. I guess when foreigners speak English they try to sound as much "native" as they can and so they copy the wrong sound that they hear from the natives. 😃
@@Sedna063 Well I don't know your situation but the maximum age to apply to be a Foreign Officer or Foreign Specialist is somewhere in your Sixties, and the US has relations with plenty of English speaking countries (I think English is actually the most common national language) and if you can afford it, most Ambassadors get appointed as a result of helping fund the winning Presidential campaign. Otherwise it takes a lot of time but you could still become a Consulate General which is a lot like an Ambassador

their english could be better. the residence is an architectural nightmare by a german architect who had only one thing in mind: squares. and the berlin bar has nothing to with berlin and is totally artificial. the entire residence is a shame.
