  • Tommy Searle spent years as a team mate and friend to Antonio Cairoli and picked up on some of the traits that made his arguably the GOAT of MXGP racing.
    //
    Tommy Searle is a true legend of the game. He's the third most winning rider in UK MXGP history and has finished second in the World Championship twice, won multiple British Championships and did a stint in the US for factory KTM. We both moved to the US around the same time but haven't had a chance to catch up in person since, so this was a really great chat! Tommy is deep in the TH-cam game now with mates Billy Bolt and Ed Warren and his TH-cam Channel and Podcast are well worth a sub!

    I am really enjoying this podcast with Tommy, didn’t know him that well but honestly he’s been one of the best guys to listen to on this podcast, really like his attitude, as for The GOAT I would say it is Tony Cairoli in my opinion he faced the biggest competition, Everts may have 10 world titles but let’s not forget that one or two of them were in the 500cc class and other than Smets there wasn’t much competition in that category. I definitely think Cairoli was the master he dominated most of the years he won, he is the GOAT

    Really great podcast.
    Its true what Tommy said....I think you need to realise that there is life away from the track and you need to enjoy that too. But with racing it is very addictive so feeling the need to be riding/driving all the time is very hard to put aside.
    The way Tony did it just prepared his mental game so well.

    Stefan Everts Is definitely the GOAT imo.. Cairoli is definitely a close 2nd, I think if he’d have secured that 10th he’d be number 1… two of the greats though and deserve a huge amount of respect.
    What I will say though is as a Brit, that 2012 season Searle had a brilliant battle with Herlings and it was one of the most exciting MX2 seasons ever.. seeing him win at Matterly was amazing.

      I used to think the same (Everts vs Cairoli) but the way Cairoli came back from injury near the end of his career to really challenge Herlings was incredible, the two of them were on another level to the rest of the field. Everts style is still unbeatable though, never seen someone make riding look so effortless.

      The difference is everts won 10 world titles whilst looking like he was on a sunday ride out with his pals. Pure effortless talent

      Got to think though, look at Everts last year, he won every GPs apart from Desert Martin.
      Not like he didn’t have easy competition, Coppins, Smets, Pichon, Tortelli, Ramon,

      I remember that race at matterley and the roar of the crowd when herlings skidded out n handed it to Tommy. Awesome day.

    I think "9x MXGP Champion" in the title isn't quite right. Two of them were MX2. 9x FIM World Champion might be more accurate (?).
    Great episode by the way! Super relevant to life in general.

      MX2 is still a GP class, so 9x MXGP world champion is correct

    • @gildo101rossi
      @gildo101rossi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      MXGP is the series. So year MXGP champion is correct. Only in recent years they call it MXGP class, it’s MX1

    tony won 9 and was loved by everyone also his competition, stef won 10 but had alot more people against him, if stef didnt have that riding style but with the same results he would of had way more haters, overall big picture TC 222 is the modern goat of europe

      222 had a lot stiffer competition and he didn't ride all the classes, not to take anything away from 72,

    • @mxcoolman
      @mxcoolman 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markcortis2348 222 also had far superior machinery! He only raced/won titles on four stokes and only won for 2 manufacturers! Everts won titles in two stroke and four stroke era and won titles on all 4 of the Japanese manufacturers....plus a load of other records set. I love TC222, he is the greatest ambassador for Motocross...but he didn't quite take the crown from 72.

      Everts lost a lot of compitition his last years, he’s main rivals was Strijbos Steve Ramon Ken De Dycker Townley Josh Coppins and those guys the last years.
      While Cairoli got just more and more compitition in Herlings Febvre Gajser Coldenhoff Prado Paulin Desalle

    • @Mockle07
      @Mockle07 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mxcoolman saying Everts is better because he won on 2 & 4 stroke is pointless - that was purely down to changing markets and the way the sport was going at the time; Tony would have won on 2 strokes if he was racing them in his championship years too 🤷🏼‍♂️
      Things were very different during their peaks, it’s impossible to truly know who is the greatest, only who is your favourite.

    222 gets my vote. 84 can't get around him unless he takes him out in a corner.

      Have you not been wathing the last few years?! Herlings is definitely faster than Tony and has passed him clean countless times! Don’t be bitter, they are two greats just at different times in their respective careers.

    • @dn5435
      @dn5435 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you know that's a lie. Tony is a legend and he won more than Herlings because he was the smartest on track. Herlings though is faster than anyone else, a different level.
