Today is 02/8/2024 how ironic is it that I am waiting for Gunsmoke to come on. A great family western show. My parents loved the shows. I grew up in a small town and we had the only tv in the black neighborhood and the nights Gunsmoke aired the town was at our door. My mom popped 2 large dish pans of popcorn for our guests. That was the good life. I never knew our front door had a key because our doors were never locked. People respected each other and their property. Now all is gone except GUNSMOKE❤
Your story reminds me of when I was little. We had the only TV (a big black and white Dumont) on the street in a small town in PA. When they put on The Wizard of Oz in the fall we had 15 kids all sitting on the floor in front of the TV. We only ever had a black and white TV. When I got married and we bought a color TV I freaked out when the door opened and it all went to color! My wife thought I was joking but I wasn't. I was 21 and it was the first time I'd seen it in color. That was in 1976.
As a kid I watched GUN SMOKE I'm old now I still watch it because justice gets served. My dad liked it because he was a real vaquero in Mexico. People nowadays are so cynical and stupid childish.
Best show I ever viewed. At 82 I still watch it every day. It is simple, provocative and entertaining. It produced a variety of characters with different talents and personalities. It would shock me to see anything in the next 100 years that would close to the popularity show as Gunsmoke.
I am also 82 years old and watched Gunsmoke from its early days in black and white until its end in the mid-70's. My friends nicknamed me Matt during my working years; not that I looked anything like big James Arness, but only because my last name was Dillon.
I apologize for any confusion caused by the title. It seems we may have set expectations for a revelation that wasn't delivered. The focus was meant to be on Arness's legacy and the enduring appeal of 'Gunsmoke.' Thank you for your patience and for watching the episodes that continue to bring joy to your golden years.

James Arness's impact on television is undeniable. This video, highlighting his personal dislikes, invites viewers to consider the man beyond his iconic role, deepening our appreciation for his contribution to the entertainment industry.
We are in our 70's and watch Gunsmoke every day. The plots are great, and the endings are always good with a positive message. With hundreds/thousands of TV channels on cable these days, there is so much crap that TV is like a having gurgling sewer bubbling up right into the living room. Gunsmoke, Wagon Train, Roy Rogers, the Cosby's, Wells Fargo, Lone Ranger, and so many other shows and films from decades ago are the only shows that make cable worth having.

As a small child and living with my Dads Parents I use to sit and and watch this show with my Granddad in his recliner with him at 4 years old in 1961.
What a heartwarming memory of watching 'Gunsmoke' with your grandfather. Those moments are priceless, and it's touching to hear how the show played a part in your childhood. Thank you for sharing this beautiful personal connection.
I recored GunSmoke and watch it as I lay down to go to sleep at night. When it is over I turn off the lights and call it a day. Often thinking about what I just watched and wonder how the situation I just watched would be handled now days. SAD that there are no real shows on TV that have that sort of impact. I grew up watching Gunsmoke with my folks and my own family and loved each member of the cast. James Arness/Matt Dillon was an unsung hero and will be remember for a very long time as an HONEST man. I have watched each of his shows and even "How The West Was Won". I never got to meet the man but I did get to see him in person at charity event held in Las Vegas in the 80's he was a mountain of a man in ever respect even then. James Arnesss personal feuds, as revealed in this video, show that even the most beloved actors have their battles. Its a fascinating exploration of his off-camera life.
Milburn Stone was initially active in live theatre, and his legacy is honored through a theatre named after him. On the other hand, James Arness was known for his fondness for playing practical jokes during filming. It's conceivable that their contrasting approaches might have required some adjustments during rehearsals. However, the notion that there was animosity between them likely doesn't hold water.
James Arness's legacy is rich with memorable performances. This video's exploration into his personal sentiments reveals the passionate nature that fueled his on-screen presence.
The black and white episodes of 'Gunsmoke' hold a special charm and nostalgia for many fans. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoy these episodes daily, appreciating their timeless quality and storytelling.
It would be nice for you to make sure the film we watch is not reversed in its viewing! Dillon’s badge on the wrong side, writing on posters backwards, Dillon’s gun on the wrong side, etc. etc.
James Arness's service during WW2, particularly his injury at Anzio, is a testament to his bravery and resilience. His unique walk on 'Gunsmoke' indeed had a backstory of real-life heroism.
Is this what we have to get used to? AI narrating? Because many words in the above narration are mispronounced! E.g., butt-ON for button, LOL! And same with other words. This is click-bait because James Arness (his last name is also pronounced wrong) didnt hate anyone, he worked well with everyone, and had to since he was in every single episode! Kitty (Amanda Blake) was in all but a few when Glenn Strange died in 1975 or so, but she did return for one of the movies Arness made as specials in the 1990s. And Milburn Stone (Doc Adams) was in all of the episodes also except for about 7 months when he was recovering from a heart attack. I never watched Gunsmoke when it aired, as I was in school or working, but I watch it without fail, every single day today and I still think it was the best series ever! After Chester (Dennis Weaver), i had to get used to Festus (Ken Curtis) but both played their roles very memorably. Gunsmoke was the best series ever, and its length of 20 years certainly attests to that opinion!
Correcting mispronunciations and improving the quality of our content is a priority. Your detailed observations about 'Gunsmoke' and its cast highlight the show's enduring appeal and significance. Thank you for sharing your love for the series and for pointing out areas where we can improve.
Viewers seeking to understand the man behind Marshal Matt Dillon will find this video on James Arnesss deep-seated dislike both revealing and thought-provoking, shedding light on the actors complex personality.
Hate won't allow you back into paradise....we all return as one mind one son of god or we don't return...the haters must practice forgiveness and forgive others for what they didn't do
Your reflection on hate, forgiveness, and the notion of unity offers a profound perspective on human relationships and personal growth. It's an important reminder that understanding and forgiveness can lead to healing, both on personal and collective levels. This perspective enriches the conversation around the themes presented in the video.
When John Wayne refused the role of Mat Dillon, he suggested his friend James Arness for the part.... he even did a commercial to introduce the new show.
Wayne’s support and introduction of Arness for 'Gunsmoke' underscore the deep respect and camaraderie among actors of that era. Thanks for highlighting this meaningful gesture.
I liked the ones with Chester. Rather than a stiff cardboard character, Chester had fears, complaints and emotions like a real person. Plenty of energy too. Festus was OK, but he was sure slowed down compared to Chester.
It amazed me that every photo and video clip are reversed!! Why did you do that? Strange. I'm supposing the voice is from a computer, given your alternating pronunciation of Arness. Your title is misleading as well. I heard about Milburn Stone's dislike of Arness, early on, but exactly who was it that Arness hated? Sorry 'bout the griping. You obviously put some time into cutting and pasting articles
Ken Curtis was our neighbor for many years until his death from a heart attack. My daughter when a youngster and her girlfriends would go to his house, and he would entertain them for hours. As an actor on John Wayne movies Ken would entertain the cast during breaks with his Festus character. A producer told him to develop that character. Ken grew up in Eastern Colorado and there was a man there that was real life Festus and Ken copied that character from his youth. His ashes were spread over the Eastern Colorado mountains.
Arness got the job in part because John Wayne recommended him. Arness was 66 tall, they had to have him stand in a hole for some scenes so they could get Kitty in. He had special boots on so he didnt limp, he had a very bad leg would. Ken Curtis started his career as a singer in the Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Rogers original group.
It's "Are-Ness," with a noticable break between the two....... ARE - NESS. Not Arness. Get it right. Us old timers notice the difference and it makes you look like an amateur. With that being said, I love how they developed a separate and distinct personality for each cast member, even Sam, Miss Kitty's bartender pal. Did you know that Chester did not use any prop to affect the limp he portrayed? True story.
James Arness Truly Hated Him' uncovers the hidden dynamics behind James Arness public facade, presenting a raw and unfiltered look at the actor’s personal life.
James Arness had one of his ankle+heel shot mostly off making walking difficult and some activates unbearable. I watch Gunsmoke weekdays at 1 pm on broadcast TV, when I am not gone. Ron W4BIN
Why would you lie about what is coming in your video claiming Arness hated Ken Curtiss and then never discussing it? Also why the hell do you have so much of the videos reversed in perspective showing Dillon as lefthanded and much of the printing reversed? On top of all that you go on and on about some points to the point of distraction.
I apologize for any confusion caused by the video's title and content. The intention was not to mislead but to explore the dynamics within 'Gunsmoke.' We'll take your feedback into consideration to ensure our videos accurately reflect their content and avoid unnecessary distractions in the future.
Who ever put these films together did a good job., however, they hv been put together backwards, JAMES ARNESS WAS NOT LEFT HANDED., THE SIGNS ON THE WALLS & ETC., WERE ALL BACKWARDS, somebody wasn't paying attention to what they were doing. Also the narrator, calls him "AR-NESS, IT SHOULD BE JAMES ARNESS. lOVE YOUR PIECE. C MOZINGO
I don't know how true it is, but I had read that the producers wanted John Wayne for the role of Matt Dillion. John Wayne turned them down but recommended an actor he knew by the name of James Arness. James Arness had been in several movies with John Wayne and had developed a friendship. John Wayne supposedly introduced the first episode of Gunsmoke and introduced us to James Arness.
Listening to this, I don't hear any mention of who he truly hated. Arness and Stone had differences that were resolved. One of my most favorite shows from my childhood. I often watched it with my Father. I now DVR episodes to watch and enjoy. I've probably seen every episode at least once.
He was hated because he spilt coffee all over Miss Kitty`s whimpernuts and Del Monacos was closed down by Dock for serving children Wheaties with sow`s milk.
Your comment adds a light-hearted touch, though it’s essential to approach discussions about public figures with respect and accuracy. 'Gunsmoke' certainly had its share of memorable moments, both on and off-screen!
Learning about the object of James Arnesss disdain through this video adds a new dimension to his character. Its a must-watch for fans of classic Westerns and Hollywood history.
James Arness's heroic service in World War II and his achievements are reminiscent of a real-life Rambo. His legacy is not just confined to his acting career but extends to his valiant service for his country. Thank you for acknowledging his bravery.
James Arness made the show, and too what little they showed of the beautiful Amanda Blake, especially before they put a fake mole on her face and began painting her up like a dancehall floosy. Bad about that! But she overcame it with her beautiful eyes and face. As far as this video goes, there's not one bit of evidence that any of the information in it that has not already been revealed is true.
Discovering why James Arness truly hated him adds an intriguing layer to the legacy of this iconic actor. This video sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of James Arnesss life.
Miss Michael LER-Ned………please….it is so distracting when famous people’s names are mispronounced. We watch Gunsmoke every day. Dennis Weaver, Chester Goode, in Gunsmoke was one of the most talented actors ever and was a really nice man as was his wife, Gerry…and they did a great job raising their three sons. There will never be another show like Gunsmoke and we sure need them. I am 76 1/2 years old and have been watching Gunsmoke ALL my life…never get tired of it.
Thank you for pointing out the mispronunciation, and I sincerely apologize for the error. Ensuring the correct pronunciation of names, especially those of beloved actors like Michael Learned, is important to us. Dennis Weaver's contribution to 'Gunsmoke' and his personal virtues are indeed noteworthy, and it's clear that 'Gunsmoke' holds a special place in your heart, as it does for many.
I have no idea where you got that picture of Ken Curtis ,But Ken Curtis never looked like that you should be ashamed of yourself using that AI garbage ! If you want a real look at what Ken Curtis looked like before he died go watch the movie CONAGHER , mr curtis was a class act , not some joke .
James Arnesss legacy is not just about his roles on screen but also his real-life emotions and conflicts. This video highlights an interesting aspect of his life.

We'll take steps to correct this and ensure such errors are avoided in future videos. Thank you for your understanding and for pointing out the mistake.
Why didn't you entitle this video "The history of Gunsmoke"? Not controversial enough to get views? BTW, who was it that "James Arness Truly Hated?" Glad to see by the end of the video, the narrator used the correct pronunciation of "Arness" rather than the earlier "Ar'-niss." While interesting in spots, this was basically a disorganized, rambling and repetitive presentation.
Different people from different parts of the country pronounce words and names different so you are just blowing smoke fussing about the pronunciation of his name....
We strive for our content to be as clear and accurate as possible, and feedback like yours is invaluable for making improvements. Thank you for sharing your observation.
Total CLICKBAIT! Besides not even knowing how to pronounce Arness. The premise of this phony clip that he hated Ken Curtis is a lie. The story about Milburn Stone confronting Arness has got to be crapola as well. That’s like the trainer confronting Tom Brady about the way he threw the ball. Miss Michael Learned is the second name you completely screwed up. It’s pronounced “ler ned”.

James Arnesss personal feuds, as revealed in this video, show that even the most beloved actors have their battles. Its a fascinating exploration of his off-camera life.
Your fascination with these stories is understandable, and we aim to handle them with care.
Thank you for emphasizing the positive aspects of their professional relationship.
James Arness's legacy is rich with memorable performances. This video's exploration into his personal sentiments reveals the passionate nature that fueled his on-screen presence.
I grew up watching that show and had a crush on miss kitty
Thank you for sharing your personal connection to the series.
Daisy. I love ❤️ the black and white half hour episodes the best. I watch the reruns almost everyday - instead of the hour-long color series!!
Dillon’s badge on the wrong side, writing on posters backwards, Dillon’s gun on the wrong side, etc. etc.
James Arness was wounded in his right leg during the WW2 invasion of Anzio, Italy! Thats why his walk was rather unique!
Thank you for your insight.
Truth be know, I thought Ken Curtis a better actor than Arness. Certainly liked the character he played (Festus) than Dillon.
I loved it that it went to an hour so I could c more of this show ! ❤️🐇🐰🐲🐦🔥🐉💀☠️⚡️🪽🎶🥰😍😘💜💛🧡💚🌈☮️
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What a wonderful personal story about Ken Curtis. Thank you for sharing these cherished memories of him.
Thank you for sharing these insights!
True story.
Think this video has misinformation about James hating Ken Curtis. If he did he would never say it. Where did you get this information???
Also Micheal Learned? Kitty was played by Amanda Blake. Micheal Learned played in one episode of Gunsmoke called The Apache.
Thanks for the correction! Do you have a favorite episode of Gunsmoke?
James Arness Truly Hated Him' uncovers the hidden dynamics behind James Arness public facade, presenting a raw and unfiltered look at the actor’s personal life.
Our intention with the video was to offer insights into the less known aspects of James Arness's life, beyond his on-screen persona.
Either I missed it or you never said who he hated.
Its Are ness
Thank you for your candid feedback.
He's right handed.......but he had his gun on the left side drawing his gun with his left hand.....
James Arness had one of his ankle+heel shot mostly off making walking difficult and some activates unbearable. I watch Gunsmoke weekdays at 1 pm on broadcast TV, when I am not gone. Ron W4BIN
It’s great to hear 'Gunsmoke' is still part of your daily routine!
C MOZINGO
Thanks for the feedback! What other details about James Arness would you like to see highlighted in future videos?
You go on and on and tell us nothing you should be in politics give it a rest
Thank you for watching
I don't know how true it is, but I had read that the producers wanted John Wayne for the role of Matt Dillion. John Wayne turned them down but recommended an actor he knew by the name of James Arness. James Arness had been in several movies with John Wayne and had developed a friendship. John Wayne supposedly introduced the first episode of Gunsmoke and introduced us to James Arness.
We love when fans share such interesting insights. Thank you for adding depth to the discussion about James Arness's legacy.
Listening to this, I don't hear any mention of who he truly hated. Arness and Stone had differences that were resolved.
One of my most favorite shows from my childhood. I often watched it with my Father. I now DVR episodes to watch and enjoy. I've probably seen every episode at least once.
Your memories of watching 'Gunsmoke' with your father are truly special, and it’s wonderful to hear that you continue to enjoy the show.
Terrible script, apparently written by a college freshman...repetitive...shallow commentary...Do change channels.
Learning about the object of James Arnesss disdain through this video adds a new dimension to his character. Its a must-watch for fans of classic Westerns and Hollywood history.
I have no idea what your reply said or meant, and although i said nothing wrong, you edited my comment.
World War 2 hero, all those medals Arness is a real life Rambo !
James Arness's heroic service in World War II and his achievements are reminiscent of a real-life Rambo. His legacy is not just confined to his acting career but extends to his valiant service for his country. Thank you for acknowledging his bravery.
Best show ever 😂
Absolutely! Gunsmoke is a classic. Who's your favorite character from the show?
James Arness made the show, and too what little they showed of the beautiful Amanda Blake, especially before they put a fake mole on her face and began painting her up like a dancehall floosy. Bad about that! But she overcame it with her beautiful eyes and face.
As far as this video goes, there's not one bit of evidence that any of the information in it that has not already been revealed is true.
..Festus was The Bestus !! 🤠
Why is so much of this printed backwards?
Great observation! Sometimes technical glitches can cause that. Have you watched many other classic TV show retrospectives?
Discovering why James Arness truly hated him adds an intriguing layer to the legacy of this iconic actor. This video sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of James Arnesss life.
So who did James Arness Truly Hate?????
Arness
Who. Did. Arness. Hate
#1 James Arness was right handed. #2 Learn how to pronounce his last name. #3 Who did Arness hate,,,,,did you ever say.
The Al gives you click bait titles and mispronounced words and names, so how can we trust the contents?
Valid point! We always strive to improve. What specific content would you like to see more accurately covered?
Film footage is backward, matts gun on left side, posters and signs read backwards right to left.
You have a keen eye, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. The issue with the backward footage was an oversight, and we aim for accuracy and quality in our content. We'll take steps to correct this and ensure such errors are avoided in future videos. Thank you for your understanding and for pointing out the mistake.
Why didn't you entitle this video "The history of Gunsmoke"? Not controversial enough to get views? BTW, who was it that "James Arness Truly Hated?" Glad to see by the end of the video, the narrator used the correct pronunciation of "Arness" rather than the earlier "Ar'-niss."
While interesting in spots, this was basically a disorganized, rambling and repetitive presentation.
That's a fair point! Who do you think could have been the subject of James Arness's animosity?
Different people from different parts of the country pronounce words and names different so you are just blowing smoke fussing about the pronunciation of his name....
Has a happy ending
'Gunsmoke' indeed had many moments that left us with a sense of resolution and hope, reflecting the complexities of life in the Old West.
I can't stand these podcast where the computer can't even pronounce English properly.
Gone in 1 minute and 60 seconds
Do you mean two minutes?
Beat you by 12 seconds.😊
We'll look into refining the narration to enhance the viewing experience. Thank you for giving the video a chance.

Play on movie
WOW✌🏽
Glad you enjoyed it! What's your favorite memory from watching Gunsmoke?
It’s Are-nessssssss lol
James has his gun on his lelf side early on then later on his gun was on his right side.did anyone notices this
The observation about James Arness’s gun holster switching sides is an interesting detail that dedicated fans like you notice!
It's weird that they have AIs that sound human until they mispronounce words like "era" and "thought".
We strive for our content to be as clear and accurate as possible, and feedback like yours is invaluable for making improvements. Thank you for sharing your observation.
CLICK BAIT!!! You didn't bother to learn how to pronounce Arness. You didn't indicate who Arness "Truly hated"
The narration is probably computerized.
Interesting observation! What other channels have you noticed using similar narration techniques?
Disappointing. I thought for sure Arness could not obnoxious portrayal of Festus by Ken Curtis.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed. What aspect of Ken Curtis's portrayal of Festus did you enjoy the most?
Total CLICKBAIT! Besides not even knowing how to pronounce Arness. The premise of this phony clip that he hated Ken Curtis is a lie. The story about Milburn Stone confronting Arness has got to be crapola as well. That’s like the trainer confronting Tom Brady about the way he threw the ball. Miss Michael Learned is the second name you completely screwed up. It’s pronounced “ler ned”.
I appreciate you doing these old shows but you should really learn to pronounce there names.
Arness never hated Ken Curtis. I'm sure Arness wouldn't have let Ken Curtis on "How The West" was won" if he hated him! You are click bate!
You're correct in highlighting the professional relationship between James Arness and Ken Curtis, especially in 'How The West Was Won.'
