  • This is my foundational attack series for the double sleeve position. The triangle from this series is what Felipe Andrew submitted Keenan Cornelius with ya Europeans this year. It’s great for beginners to advanced and provide dangerous attacks and easy transitions for modern attacks like Berimbolo, Sit Up Guard, De La Riva, as well as setting up closed guard well. I hope you like the video and please comment if you have questions.

    Super cool video. I find these "series" videos incredibly helpful at developing my game. More "series" videos on any position would be great.

    Thank you so much. I just learnt the open guard has all these different styles, and now I can start with some double sleeve attacks!

    Love your videos and I have a tip for you in the first sweep, you are using the weak muscles to pull him, try to adjust doing like this, use your arms to pull but use it like doing a punch defense, you grab his sleeve and rotate your hands under, put your elbows together to make the punch defense and now you can pull his sleeves/arms much easier and you will be very strong using these muscles.

    Great video! I like how you switch your hips to bring your leg inside to shoot for the triangle. I would love to see a video on different attacks with one leg spider and the other de la riva.

    Jon! What are your opinions on Keenans lapel system including his new worm passing and wrestling?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hayde Clume Hey I think all the lapel systems are very powerful and a fun addition to jiu jitsu. I think it’s important to be well rounded though and learn both open guard control series off of sleeve collar and pant controls as well as low lapel controls. One mistake people make who get into that game is becoming so obsessed they only play lapel stuff and don’t mix on other systems, that being said people do the same thing refusing to learn modern lapel systems too. These “classic positions” are extremely deep though collar sleeve has been around forever an even now huge break through a are happening in this position making it more dangerous than most other guards so sometimes people think a new guard is needed to be more dangerous but really these classic position can be evolved to become even more powerful than before.

    Thanks Jon, amazing video. Any suggestions for an opponent in very strong combat base, or low squat "defeating" the lasso by pushing with his knee and hips into it? When my opponent is doing so, I also found that my hips are like pinned.

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pichon Julien in the combat base you can set up closed guard potentially or you can switch to a spider hook and try shin on shin or wheel sweeps

  • @grigelkotten
    @grigelkotten 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ive had a lot of help with your system also on grapplers guide. When somone steps in on my "dlr" leg with an anle (knee facing outwards) so you can't putin the hook and not put pressure on the leg either. Do you just abandon to shallow lasso?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      grigelkotten if you are playing double sleeve and they do that then I would switch the left foot to a spider hook and try to work under

      The guy in the white gi is Pedro "Paquito" Ramalho. He is a world class competitor from Portugal who, most recently, got a silver medal in the European IBJJF Open as a middle-weight in the black belt division. He also place 3rd in the UAEJJF Grand Slam last year in London. And you? What do you do?
