I've never been a cyclist and have grown to love the sport over the last 20 years. Every year I begin to think about the Tour in January with such anticipation. At 75, each year is a milestone. My introduction to cycling has always included Bob Roll, who in my opinion, is a national treasure. The mold was made, then thrown away for this very special commentator and great American.
That was great piece on Bob's upbringing into cycling! The last few days have been great with you and Phil! RIP Paul Sherwin your story telling will remain with us for ever!
An American original. Absolute Icon of cycling. One of the voices who have done so much to spread the gospel and make cycling a mystical experience for so many. Love Bobke unconditionally.
I really enjoy listening to Bobke. I loved his channel and how he is passionate yet funny and honest in his commentaries. Paul is missed greatly not only by his fans but so proud and humbled by the outpouring of love and respect he achieved in his years. The tributes have been beautiful. Bobke, Paul is definitely with you and Phil in that trailer. You are doing him proud and stepping rather nicely into some amazing shoes. Keep on being "Bsd to the Bone Caveman!" And God Bless you!
GREAT interview! thanks for putting it on. I don't ride but I make it a point to watch the Tour every year and the coverage is why I know what a peloton is let alone a domestique. great stuff, this sport.
Brings back a lot of great memories of the Coors Classic too. Growing up in Colorado, it was a huge annual event, and had become international in scope. Miss Paul, but Bob will take the torch and carry on.
I remember seeing the 7-11 team in Minneapolis a couple of times but I can't say if Bob Roll was part of the team. This was a very enlightening video. I had no idea Roll was such a strong and competitive force in the peloton. And mostly self-taught.
I had no idea Bobke's background was so incredible. What's more incredible is how he continued to call it the Tour "day" France for so many years despite SURELY knowing he was pronouncing it wrong XD
Very cool - old man now - Bobke has meant much to me and provided so many laughs over the years Thank You Bob. I miss Paul Sherwin greatly…prayers for Paul.
Great interview! I’ve been watching the Tour ever since LeMond won for the first time and Bob Roll is quite simply the best analyst in sport. Loved hearing his personal story!
Ah yes, he's also a poet. He weaves phrases that instantly communicate what his vision is. He takes you there with such ease and economy of words. A real poet!
Bob came to speak at our District 1 end of year ceremonies once back in the day. His stories of riding the Giro, Pantani, Bugno, etc... had everyone in stitches, except for the local Italian immigrant contingent who took umbrage at his stories of the Tifosi. He was hilarious none the less.
Thanks Bob and yes biking has the best stadium in the world. I always looked forward to your partner’s narrative of what I was looking at. Bless his heart. See you at next years Tour de France.
great video, i really like Bob Roll i am so happy for him he worked hard for everything he got nothing was handed to him, like today's society, and i am glad he is doing the TDF show with Mr. Liggette. But i must say I really miss Paul Sherwin.
His story about the Italians reminded me of the great movie Breaking Away when the Italians shunted him off the road and he became disillusioned with them.
How could you not love bob roll He made it old fashion way
He truly is one of the funniest and most engaging storytellers I've ever heard. Thank you so much, NBC, for sharing this with us!
Bob Roll is an enigma... most of all he's an icon. What he brings to the table is irreplaceable and he does it with class and the everlasting smile.
Bobke is the best! Glad you decided to stay on to commentate...wouldn't be the same without you! RIP Paul.
My thoughts exactly! Bob is a legend, just as Paul, it would be horrible for both of them to not be on this year.
Team 7/11 introduced me to cycling. Thanks for the journey.

bobke what a character
What a legend...need to make a movie about this journey
Bob is one of my heroes. Please attempt something like this with Frankie Andreu and Sean Yates. All legendary domestiques.
Agreed! Frankie is sorely missed in the live commentary on modern racing.
I really enjoy listening to Bobke. I loved his channel and how he is passionate yet funny and honest in his commentaries. I giggled. Thank you Bobke! I love you man. Life is cooler because of you. If I could shake your hand, I’d shake.

GREAT interview! thanks for putting it on. I don't ride but I make it a point to watch the Tour every year and the coverage is why I know what a peloton is let alone a domestique. great stuff, this sport.
Bob, Phil and Paul are the best sports broadcasters, hands down. Thanks Bob for all you bring of your knowledge of cycling to the rest of us.
First time I"ve really heard any of the broadcast team talk about Paul Sherwin, very nice and thoughtful.
Love you Bobkie, your a national treasure!!

I just watched this today. What a great interview. Bob Roll is an original.
I remember seeing the 7-11 team in Minneapolis a couple of times but I can't say if Bob Roll was part of the team. This was a very enlightening video. I had no idea Roll was such a strong and competitive force in the peloton. And mostly self-taught.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Bob Roll story. Gr8 guy 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Love this so much. Long live Bobke.
I had no idea Bobke's background was so incredible. What's more incredible is how he continued to call it the Tour "day" France for so many years despite SURELY knowing he was pronouncing it wrong XD
What a wonderful interview... Bob’s amazing demeanor let’s us know “attitude is everything”!

So cool to stumble upon this...great stories told Bob's way! Well done Paul and Bob!
Very enjoyable interview. Bob Roll is outstanding.
I enjoyed the interview almost as much as I did watching Bob Roll and the 7-Eleven team clean up in the 1986 Santa Cruz, California criterium.
Fond memories of the old 7-11 team. I once met Ron Kiefel at a race in Maryland and he seemed so thrilled that I even knew who he was!
Bob Roll is so much fun to listen to. He is irreverent, knowledgeable, and funny. Thanks for sharing this story! 🙂
Off the script that was great thank you👍🏻
Bob has saved the TdF for me. I was dreading the loss of Paul Sherwen(RIP).
I love history shared during the tour, i look forward to seeing and learning the history along with the racing coverage.

Thanks for stepping up Bobke.
Great interview! I’ve been watching the Tour ever since LeMond won for the first time and Bob Roll is quite simply the best analyst in sport. Loved hearing his personal story!
Awesome Interview! Paul Burmeister actually understands the sport. Thanks!
Really brings it to a personal level that will help me appreciate his commentary so much more. Thank you.
Ah yes, he's also a poet. He weaves phrases that instantly communicate what his vision is. He takes you there with such ease and economy of words. A real poet!
I still have my Proflex 957 which I believe was the bike that Roll rode during his last NORBA season.
The look on the interviewer's face at 2:53 is priceless!!!
Love the TDF. Thanks for being there with me Bob Roll.
The whole interview is just awesome. Good job Paul and Bob.
Great respect for an American sports hero. Thanks, Bob Roll for represent'n.
Wow, what a great story. I always liked him but now to know his story. Pretty special.

Fantastic interview!
We love you Bob!!!! We cherish a picture you took with us on the top of Woody's Gap, Tour De' Georgia! "Who loves you babe? Bob does!"

Amazing stories and insights Bob Roll, thanks for sharing and I should probably read your book if it contains more of this.
Just love him. He needs a show. Loe to see him take us back to the Bay Area on a bike. That is an Episode.

His story about the Italians reminded me of the great movie Breaking Away when the Italians shunted him off the road and he became disillusioned with them.
