Please keep giving Matt ammo, It's funny and everyone wins. The newbies learn and the oldies can pat each other on the back. You definitely have a secret weapon in Nicole. Well played Rye.
Well done you can see who has all the brains
🤣
This is your best episode in 2 years. Respect . . . To you both.
This could be the best comment I have received in two years. Thanks mate 😎
Make sure you have a good ground in between the engine and powder coating on the frame or you won’t get spark.
That's a very good point yes well thought of thanks for sharing
Nicole is a rockstar!!
Hi, a reminder for everyone.
When the camshaft bolts are reassembled, a precise tightening sequence must be followed, this applies to any engine. Always check your motorcycle/car service manual.
Source: two weeks of work on my Suzuki GSR 600 2006 :)
It does apply to any engine, but he is lucky this engine has eight camshaft caps, less likely to crack one than on an engine with only two. But we all must always follow the sequences to be sure not to cause damage, even when removing them, and the head etc.
Thank you. Yes. I know this well. Worked on many cars. &. Bikes.
But in a positive note ,I love your videos ,I too struggle doing DIY home motorcycle mechanics and get equally frustrated when things just seem impossible ,the feeling of elation is just awesome when you finally sort out what has seemed impossible
Yes yes yes Rye mate.i am proud of you're hard work great to see the motor in the thunder ace.from daniel.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️
The workshop is already levelling up your videos mate. Definite improvements in lighting, framing of shots and sound quality. Great stuff as always. Thanks for sharing.
Daniels here mate love that thunder ace love your bike builds .really looking forward to seeing it finished keep up the awesome work mate.really interesting doing these bike builds I really love motorbikes .your channel is awesome cool .the workshop is looking great already.heres to many many more of these builds Rye mate.from Daniel.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️
Glad you like them mate! Thanks for your support as always 🙏🏼 👍🏼 🙌🏼 ❤
@@BikesofRye I love you bike builds so interesting. Glad to support your channel Rye mate.looking forward to the next one.👍👍👍🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️
Engine in the bike!!!! Get in there Rye
It's a miracle
Well done ! You are lucky to have such a cool girl next to you!
You should install a wire game in the ceiling, it would make it easier in the future.
I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about or what you are doing but Christ it’s therapeutic to view
I don't have a clue what I am talking about... so it's fine
Good job you've got a top mechanic to help you 🎉
A true professional. She has to keep an eye on me because I make so many mistakes
Anyone else conveniently pause at 7:37? No just me.
Nicole is BOSS!!! Cool!!!
hey man ! Love new work shop! Love seeing your mrs too! I suggest proper sparkplug sockets over deep socket. They are basically the same but have rubber to help grab.
Also try find the factory service manuel and print off some pages of the engine section. As it will have symbols which tell you what parts to oil/grease and with which type of oil or grease. Even on tells you which bolts are locktite / require locktite! Just love engines in general and watching you learn is really fun and gives me motivation for my own projects :)
I am 50/50 this was a spark plug socket... I will double check it has the rubber. I do have a magnet though so maybe that will be a substitute if not
Top tip, when you get a bolt hole that close, use a pointed bar or even a screwdriver through the holes and you can manipulate into place the last bit
Well done for getting the engine in 🎉
Well done, plenty brain work to get around the issue. I would have used a flat piece of wood under the engine, on top of the trolley jack.
Nice upload. I used to like your background music on the previous vids while working on your bike. Can you bring that back for me haha.
It's a great observation! I did want to see how this performed without the background music. So we will see 😁
Loving your enthusiasm and energy on this build . Looking good. Lucky you've got a little helper to call on. 😎👍🏍
Thanks 👍 yes she sometimes comes in handy 🤣
Outstanding episode!
Thanks for the feedback 🙌🏼 will do my best to keep it up 😁
Well done good job you and your girlfriend 💪💪💪 keep going 💪💪
Well done you two you deserve a pat on the back for achieving the goals we are proud of you 👍❤️
She said "it's in" with great surprise....
Nice one mate, couldn't wait to see the engine lift ramp scenario 😲worked brilliantly, oh and well done to yr girlfriend what a worker😊& a natural infront of the camera as are you👍keep em coming 📹
Glad you enjoyed it thanks 😁
Brilliant 🤩
Loved the squat warm up! And I know exactly what you are referring to! 😂
Ps don’t let that t*** get in your head. Just a bitter little man who needs his mum’s attention.
A ghetto method is wrap a ratchet strap around (padded with rags/towels) around the frame and under the engine, then crank away. Did it on my ZX6R-G & mk1-R6 😂
That's a superb idea! Going to keep that in mind
You are so lucky to have such a willing helper, mine does too.
well done both of you
You're growing into a mechanic ! It can be hard work, often frustrating, but by actually doing mechanical work you do your own apprenticeship - it's very rewarding and much cheaper 👍🙂
Yes definitely the reward. It's certainly the feeling of accomplishment that really motivates me.
Great job Rye!
love the positivity, well done keep plodding away.🏍🏍🏍🏍
The bike build, the collaboration with Nicole.. your boss, and just the right amount of humor lol, absolutely loving this channel. Rye mate you definitely have a winning formula here👏 Yes, and the shop too!
Thanks so much!
Is there thick joists in ceiling? A few hooks to hang ratchet straps on would work wonders in future.
Well done on getting the engine in. Love to see the real word struggles of the DIY gang.
Keeping it relatable 😁
Smashing it mate 👍🏻👍🏻🤩
Good job mate!!! Keep it going this way. 🎉
That's the plan!
that's what she said
Almost added a Michael Scott clip in this edit
Another cracking video bud well done and look great
Nice work, glad the vid didn't go just on volume only with no screen. Could of been very rude lol 👍🏼coming along nicely 👌🏼
I'm new to the channel. Great work, honest and very real. Enjoying watching this project progress. Well done mate.
Love to hear it! Cheers 😎
Great build. Keep up the super vids. Strong wife you have!
Good job 👍.
It is easier with the scissor lift stools, swapped my FZS1000 engine in a couple of hours and it was so easy to line up the bolts but then again it hadn’t been recently powdercoated.
Got to get myself one for future. Which one do you you have? Clarke or Draper I see do a decent looking one
You know you got a keeper when she helps you put an engine in😂 👍
Without her the build would fail
@@BikesofRye yeah - behind every great man is an Evan greater woman
It's nice seeing you both helping together my gf helps me on my youtube channel to
great video series, i absolutely love my thunderace but would never tackle what you do much as i would like to clean it up, restore, enhance...fab to watch though, it can be done!
If you had two tables the same height you could put them either side of the bike lift put a thick plank between the two put the engine on the plank then lower the lift to the engine
There’s a proper spark plug socket that got a rubber sleeve in it to hold plug.
Well done Rye and Nicole you’re learning quick What did u end up doing with that rust on the bores ? I’ve got an ancient FZ 750 that I’m taking the engine out to 961 in so know the thunderace engine pretty well as the fz shares a similar architecture best of luck from NewZealand
Used very mild abrasive pad to remove it... it looked worse than it was
You need to add to the walls of the garage - posters of the bikes you have had and worked on
I notice you picked up silicate type anti-freeze at Halfords. Please double check because I reckon for your motorcycle it should NOT contain silicates, as these can be bad for your seals, same goes for phosphates in anti-freeze.
Propylene glycol is considered about the most reliable solution for motorcycles. Those are organic acid technology (OAT) coolants as used in newer motorcycle models. They use organic acids as rust-prevention additives.
If not using pre-made coolant mixture (i.e. a self mix), make sure that you use distilled water and not tap water. The solids inside of tap water could corrode the inside of your engine. Plus, the quality of tap water varies depending on your location. Distilled water is always the best choice if you are using it inside of your engine to mix with motorcycle engine coolant.
Nice mate!! Had no idea I will look into this!... thanks for sharing 👍🏼
@@BikesofRye 👍😊 Once you've bottomed out what is best to use, maybe worth mentioning what you eventually use as part of the build, because I watched another video of a TH-camr restoring a water cooled Honda motorcycle and he'd to soak the cylinder barrels in some kind of central heating system solution (I think it was), in order to get all the gunge loosened for flushing out, due to wrong coolant type used over several years.
I need a helper like Nicole , every bikers dream🤣🤣🤣love your videos mate , you never give up , take no notice of the know it alls , keep them videos coming! 😅
Will never give up mate 👍🏼 cheers for the support
Well done Ryan, dont forget ive a power rack and maybe 200kg olympic weights in my garden, get on that bike and get up here lol 👍 JASON
Hi good job u 2 make a good team , is this going to be a double act on the channel , she must have a lot of patience , i restored a thundercat 600 long process 6months to do, i found u do theses project for love not to make any money , i put in more money than it was worth good fun to see the end result . Look forward to see the next video 🏍💨👍
Never skip a leg day. You watch the same posts as me lol
🏍👍
I am always going to heart your 👍🏼 mate
From watching your videos I think your a local lad
I could be local... but that depends what is local? 🥸🤓😁
Near Biggleswade
Are the covers with which you bought the motorcycle complete? The red-gray ones. Are they for sale? Are they not damaged?I am looking for such same plastic OEM
Or you could mount the frame to the engine and then build the rest of the bike up around it
Will that black paint hammerite going to burn right off???
Well done so far. How did you check the valve timimg to crank ? Video only shows the 2 camshatfs timed together. Keep up the good work.
Ah yes in previous uploads sorry. There is a hole on the left side you can access and view the particular markings to indicate where TDC is
I have to confess… I find myself yelling at you when watching some of the things you do.. ‘WTF’ is he doing now ?’ … ‘No No… don’t do that ! ‘ but you’re learning and you have the drive ! I will continue to cheer you on even though some times it’s a bit cringe worthy… takes some stones to do this publicly !
Was it the lunges with Nicole on my back?
Well that was impressive but it was more about you trying to manhandle the engine in place. Get that scissor jack 😂
Isn't it logical to check the timing with the cam chain guide in place? Or does it block the markings? Specially when turning the engine
It's something extra that would need to be removed if I had to move the camshaft on the chain to correct timings. So left it off until I was happy with the timing
@BikesofRye I understand but I had in mind if it can effect the timing and stress on the chain. But you're probably OK 👍
Have you given away the Blackbird to one of your lucky Patreons?
Yes a guy called Stuart won the bike and its on one of my community posts! 😁 We will look to make this a common theme on this channel
Hi did you check the valve clearances
Hey yep all checked and in tolerance as per the service manual
Dont be using that nice new 1/4 inch torque wrench as a socket ratxhet, I know what you are like lol
Thanks for posting, Andy
Haha I am a professional you know....
Make sure you get yourself a halfords trade card
nice job and lucky you have a skilled girlfriend😀
Fair play for tackling this engine mate 👍also awesome that your girlfriend gets stuck in too👌. Are you really from Rye?🤔😀
Half-way through the engine install the oil filter suddenly appears on the engine. The engine is then dropped a couple of times onto the oil filter junction putting a lot of shock and strain on that area which it is not designed to take. I would be double checking everything in that area with the filter removed as the last thing you want is an oil leak anywhere around there on start up. Hopefully you dodged a bullet....
Yep was spilling oil so popped it back on and did check if it was grounding the filter but was fine - great observation 👍🏼 😎
Good old Nicole! A lot like my wife - willing to get stuck in and get dirty (as in oil and grease, naturally!)..... but also has a logical brain and can engineering problem solve. I've been married to mine for 30 years now - you need to make sure that Nicole still wants you for a similar length of time!
Phew - glad you added that part in brackets 😅
Great video ,but you need to invest in microphone 😊
Yes need to figure out how to fix the annoying echo
Are you from rye east sussex ?
Couples therapy 🤣
I know Matt gives you a hard time but don't take it to heart , he has more than once asked for you to contact him or appear live on his Saturday live stream, I'm sure if you were stuck with something on one of your bikes he would be more than happy to help you out . He just worries about youtubers giving dangerous information that could harm someone thinking they are getting good information .
