I'm an early adaptor in Atheism being 35, not GenZ... but have consistently watched this channel for a few months now and appreciate a new perspective. Commenting before I watch, might edit. I'm not here to 'bash religion' b/c im an atheist, I do appreciate any replies.
I do see a Lot of benifit to religion especially Catholics i think, but can not call myself religious at all if I honestly do not believe in any god at all. sorry if sounds offensive, just trying to be honest. Have a nice day everyone.
I definitely recommend you continue to watch this channel and keep looking into Orthodoxy. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your reasoning for not believing in a God? In heavily into apologetics so id love to answer any questions you have. God bless my friend
The priest in this video is not very aware of international affairs. His comments about the Russian invasion in Ukraine showed he does not understand politics.
I don’t know if I find this video’s argument compelling. But I have not seen him demonstrate what I kind of humility I respect in clergy.
@@nikothegr8 I will definitely continue to watch. And continue to learn. But to answer your question briefly (could be long answer) here is very brief. Basically, if I was born in India it’s very high likelihood I would be Buddhist. Born in Middle East -> Muslim. Born in America-> Christian (I was raised this way and baptized).
These religions do not seem to be compatible w/ each other. They cannot all be true. They can all be false. Perhaps they are all false (my belief). And religion seems to be ‘comforting’ (this life is not everything.. Heaven awaits..) without belief can be difficult knowing this is it.
******I will stop there as I could keep going*****
Hopefully that sort of answers ur question on why I am an atheist.
Thanks for your Reply!
I know I'm just a random stranger on youtube, but if you will humor me. When it's convenient for you, in your own words, ask Jesus to prove himself/show that he exist to you. Because you are right, it's very hard to understand things or even bother with it if you don't believe GOD is real- and that is a legitimate reason. Jesus is real, it's only fair that he proves it. So ask him. If you decide to pursue, read the Bible yourself objectively- see for yourself without a middleman and others meddling. Take care!
@@heavenfell thank you for your reply. I’m not going to promise I will. But I will always keep an open mind and continue to watch this channel and others similar. Take care!
I am typically non-religious and align myself with secularism. This is an atheistic view centered on human agency and a reliance on science and reason rather than revelation from a supernatural source to understand the world. I tend to advocate for human rights, free speech, progressive policies, and democracy. I maintain that religion is not a precondition of morality, and object to excessive religious entanglement with education and the state.
I emphasize the individual and social potential, as well as the agency of human beings, which I consider the starting point for serious moral and philosophical inquiry.
My values are reinforced by advances in science and technology, giving me confidence in my exploration of the world. I focus on human well-being and advocate for human freedom, autonomy, and progress. I view humanity as responsible for the promotion and development of individuals, espouse the equal and inherent dignity of all human beings, and emphasize a concern for humans in relation to the world.
We are reasonable beings, and reasoning and the scientific method are means of finding truth. I argue that science and rationality have driven successful developments in various fields while the invocation of supernatural phenomena fails to coherently explain the world. One form of irrational thinking is adducing. I am skeptical of explanations of natural phenomena or diseases that rely on hidden agencies.
For people to be autonomous, their beliefs and actions must be the result of their own reasoning. For me, autonomy dignifies each individual; without autonomy, people's humanity is lessened. I also consider human essence to be universal, irrespective of race and social status, diminishing the importance of collective identities and signifying the importance of individuals.
I came across Father Trenham today on instagram where he speaks of the traists he would like in a wife....since i have spent hours listening to his profound words of wisdom during interviews and through his own platforms. I have voiced his sentiments and beliefs many many times during the last few years but to deaf ears, mostly. Thank you Father for your insight and for making me feel that I am not alone. 🙏
Off topic....could you, Father Trenham, delve into the normalisation of drugs as depicted in movies and series of late....it's almost impossible not to watch a film without someone smoking cannibis or using psychedelics...even middle aged women who have never been portrayed in this way. I find this is an offence toward our youth and feel it is advocating for society whereby its citizens are numb, unconcerned, narcissistic and addicted. Sadly. What are your thoughts?
I’m 24. I was raised without religion, found Catholicism when I was 12, and became Orthodox when I was 20. I was always weird as a kid for caring about spirituality and philosophy. I love Christ and His Church: never leaving him!

The PURPOSE of life to be become Christ-like.
The most IMPORTANT thing in life is to love and be loved.
The great question I see among my generation is trad cath or orthodox, though there are pagans and atheists as well they are respectively larpers and one penny short of a pint.
He is totally right.
Father, I come from the Czech Republic 🇨🇿, traditionally Roman Catholic or Moravian (proto-protestant) Christian country, but nowadays one of the least religious countries in the world, possibly even the most irreligious/ atheist.
I was always considering this to be the norm and religion to be something backward from our history. It took me 45 years to realise how terribly wrong I was. Christianity is the very essence of our lives, our culture. Without God nothing makes sense. I predict that more and more people will come to the same conclusion and we will experience some form of Great Awakening in the West and all around the world. I personally think that we are just experiencing the Peak Atheism at the moment, we are more than likely pass it already. I predict that the decline of religiosity will end and the curve will turn in the opposite direction. 21st century will be spiritual.
perhaps there's a rise of athiesm, but i have seen a rise in christianity among this generation. you either numb yourself to the evils or the world or you seek truth and end up at the feet of the Lord
That is not where truth lays.
My traditional Anglican parish has more than doubled in size in the past year. We've just added a second service.
Because people are waking up.
Islam is growing fastest. Expected to be the largest religion by 21st century.
Modernization produces produces secularism.
Islam is growing by higher fertility. Christianity is growing mostly by conversion (in Africa etc.).
Muslim countries are only behind the West in secularization and demographic transition, we can expect the same trajectory there as well. We can see it already. Many Muslim countries have sub replacement fertility and religious practice is dropping even in places like Iran or Saudi Arabia. Internet plays a big role in Muslim apostasy.
Personally I don't think that Islam will become world's biggest religion. But I can be wrong of course.
Traditional christians need to support one another and show solidarity against the broken secular world
Amen!
Agreed
It is the traditional Christians who are broken, not the secular world.
@@Michael-kf7gm Then let us see which one endures.
@@WilliamSwartzendruber Haha, yea we will.
Thank you Father. You are fighting the true fight. Nothing else matters as much as God whatever meaningless things they push us to believe.
One cause is pastors and priests who are cowards in terms of standing up for The Lord in difficult situations. There are very few heroes nowadays to inspire the young. To some kids who have been molested by clergy and the clergy being protected not the kids. This has made me so infuriated. Did you administer the sacraments during COVID or did you cower to the authorities? During that time you could really tell who had the armor of faith.
I am gen Z and I know the experience of being a child of postmodernism. I was raised lukewarm Protestant and rejected it in favor of atheistic humanism. It lead me to misery and a nihilism I couldn’t stand. I have returned to Christ in Orthodoxy and I have never felt so restored. I believe my generation is truly living with the ramifications of valueless individualism and that’s what is drawing so many of us to orthodoxy. Theotokos pray for us! We need something solid when so many of our elders are telling us to worship our subjectivity.
It’s so good to know that the bs mind controlling propaganda is working!
Honestly, because nobody has told anyone the truth of the faith in a long time. God is not relative, and you need the sacraments to go to Heaven. It’s not just ‘I feel’ and you can do whatever.
I think the decline started with the removal of the Bible from the classroom. -Engel v. Vitale (1962) and Abington School District v. Schempp (1963)- We have generations of parents and grandparents who were not taught about God or his Book and that left us with current generations without any moral guide.
I hope they teach Quran, Ghita, Book of Mormon, teachings of Confucious, and the Book of Christian Science in the class room.
Maybe the weebs need to learn Zen Buddhism.
Is our abandonment of moral norms really all that different from what happened in France in the 18th century before the Reign of Terror? Or in Russia before the Revolution?
May we return to the lord and speak up against the degenerate culture.
I`m from Germany. It got us bad. But we must push back
What has atheism to do with "degenerate culture" or "bad"?
Why do you think a "push back" of atheism is necessary?
A german calling others degenerate....... Now where have I heard that line before, I think it rhymes with yahtzee and sizzler
The level of irony here is insane
It's not just a degenerate culture that has harmed much of Europe, particularly Germany, it's also the importation of millions of Muslims.
I'm awfully behind on my Paraklesis and I suspect it may be despondency.
The main differences between Orthodox Christianity and Roman Catholicism. the main things which keep our religions separate are:
Papal Supremacy, Papal Infallibility, The Filioque, Absolute Divine Simplicity, Created Grace Doctrine, natural theology, scholasticism, Original sin, sacred heart doctrine, Immaculate conception, Purgatory, Merits/Indulgences, evolution of Dogma, imaginative prayer, "beatific vision" etc
Then the Forced Celibacy of Priests, The use of Unleavened Bread in the Eucharist, The Adoption and change of the Christian calendar, The use of Renaissance statues, Pews, Child Communion, improper non immersion baptism, Cardinals, and differences in liturgical practices (Alter tables, Iconostasis, priest positioning etc)
all of those things, we say the Western Church adopted and innovated and became heretical when they adopted these things.
And we say that in the early church NONE of these things existed, there is no evidence of these things.
No examples of Papal Infallibility, No examples of merits/indulgences, and no examples of unleavened wafer bread, and such.
In fact in the west, In Rome. It looked a lot similar to how we Orthodox exist today. Our priests can get married, we use Icons and not statues, we use the old calendar etc
Orthodoxy Vs Roman Catholicism:
Energy Essence Distinction vs Absolute Divine Simplicity
Ancestral Sin vs Original Sin
Non Filioque Trinity vs Filioque Trinity
Patriarchy vs Papacy
Revealed Theology vs Natural Theology
Hesychasm Vs Scholasticism
Theosis vs Sanctification
Married Priest vs Celibate Priests
Infant Communion Vs Non Infant Communion
Iconography vs Statues
Full Immersion Baptism vs Sprinkle Baptism
One Baptism vs Confirmation Baptism
Leavened Communion Bread vs Unleavened Communion bread
Julian Calendar vs Pope Gregory's Calendar
We are not the same Religion, we do not have the same faith, and anyone who looks into either religions genuinely will see how different we are.
Do these differences between Christians offend you?
Now climb in. The traditional orders of Christianity are exploding in growth and you're coming along for the ride.
In another words, the problem is almost exclusively in Vatican and higher Church hierarchy: papal supremacy & infallibility, indulgences (= corruption), many Catholics have problem with this as well. The biggest theological difference is the filioque.
Most of the other differences are purely liturgical. Statues and use of musical instruments are different artistic expression, it doesn't make mass heretical. The same applies for the use of different languages in liturgy.
For ordinary believer Orthodoxy and Catholicism is not that different. We both go to church to humble ourselves before God, to receive body of Christ and to seek forgiveness for our sins and help in our spiritual battle in day-to-day life. Whether our sins are consequence of original sin or ancestral sin and whether we venerate icons or statues makes little practical difference.
I think Orthodox Christians and Catholics should focus on what bounds them together, rather what makes them different. It is especially important in today's strongly Anti-Christian, very liberal, very secular, Marxist, consumerist world.
@@jirislavicek9954
You ought to really look into the differences I listed
They are extremely fundamental, it's not just some cultural or liturgical thing
It's literally Christology, and the purpose of Christian life
We understand God as completely different
The purpose of Christian life and living is different
The understanding of saints are completely different
The Trinity with the filioque is different
It's not the same religion
Just because you don't care about these differences. Or just because you think they aren't important doesn't mean that they aren't
Look at these things genuinely and humbly. As it is and not how you want it to be
Fundamental human realities that determine everything ? Or its become easier for people to verify false claims?
THANK YOU!

I don’t know a lot of Gen z but a lot of them seem more based than Millenials (my generation )
In Switzerland I see more believes in gen z than in millennials
For me it was the lack of consistency in protestantism, raised Lutheran. The lack practice in the scripture. I grew up in the time of scandal in the Roman Catholic church, not just the pedophilia, bit their response of enabling them to continue to shuffle them around and allowing them to abuse children. Along with audacity of the papal position. In total, I never experienced Christians trying to live like Christ. I left the faith at 15 years old.
As an adult I was blessed to have been experienced and set forth in faith by the Holy Spirit. This set me on a spiritual journey fraught with pitfalls and struggles. Now by the Lords mercy I've been brought to the Orthodox Church and learned what is missing from the religious and spiritual practices, for me, it was the lack of repentance and striving to know God in the presence and in this world. Thank God for Orthodoxy maintaining the teachings of Christ and the Holy traditions.
these are indeed significant observations. We are witnessing substantial changes in society, and it's crucial to recognize how these shifts affect young people and their desire for faith and spirituality. Reevaluating traditional values can lead to a renewed interest in religion and the practice of faith.
I’m just now leaving Protestantism, and I can say I think for sure Protestant understandings of Christianity are probably a big contribution to atheism. A lot of their views make no sense and are contradictory.
So why is so much of Europe Atheist? Alot more atheist there than U.S

A lot of, or mor correctly, none of religions make any sense. It is a construction in the brains of mankind.
I can't say that I left Protestantism because of this, but I did go from non-denominationalism to traditional Anglicanism.
God loves us. I have come to God too. Amen . I am very young too.
I await nothing. I have nothing. I am nothing. I am sick of it all. This wretched and sinful world, my wretched sinful existence. All of it. I am maddened with the endless pain. I fall, and fall, and fall, and there is no bottom to this well. I can not fathom the wickedness of modern man, I can not fathom the timeless evil which punishes those who fall, and breaks their bones when they plea for the affection of those who witness their fall. A wicked & selfish world, content at the silence of the downtrodden if it means cheap happiness. It sickens me.
But I need no others. I have always survived alone. I have always taught myself, I have always mentored myself. I have done everything alone unto the present age of twenty-four. I look at myself, a quarter ways into my life, and I am still fighting alone. I will die alone. Such a long night lies ahead, as I tread dreadfully into this bleak blackness. I question why I keep going. It seems that no matter where I go I remain alone, a phantom, praying to God ceaselessly for its end. It is too dark, others can not see me, and I can not see them.
Curse this worldly sinfulness, curse my sinfulness. I am calamity, and a cosmic rubric of pain. With all my being, with all my soul I cry out in unfathomable pain. I pray and I pray, I vanquish the waves of torment, yet like the sea they are endless. I live only to dwell on the edge of a terrible, lone drowning. My faith betrays me, it will only ever prolong my suffering. My lone faith is all I have, between madness and order.
What is faith if it is "lone"? Not lived out? Faith is not meant to prolong suffering, but to strengthen us as we endure suffering. We are all pilgrims and foreigners in the world, but we are first and foremost called to serve. Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve, and He calls us to follow in that example. We are very prone to focusing on the darkness in us when isolated, but the best way out, is to find ways to serve others, to make other people's lives a bit better, even if they don't deserve it, because we sure don't deserve anything either! Small steps will carry you a long way. God bless and strengthen you, and may His peace be with you.

The problems are clear, but what is the solution?
Each of us should be regularly in church receiving the Holy Eucharist. Then we should be reading Holy Scripture and in prayer throughout the day. We should even fast from time to time. To be honest, if I was raised Orthodox, I would probably be an atheist or agnostic, because of how superficial the mass majority I talk to are ignorant and passionless of the knowledge of what the Godhead has done for us.

Good. Enough of non-sense and distraction from what is here and now.
In Europe Atheism is rising.
Father is right… there is much hope in the global south. In my tradition (anglicanism) global south bishops who remain faithful to the gospel have been sending missionaries to the US since the early 2000s… they created a faithful Anglican province that is growing like wildfire. There are still parishes and dioceses in the mainline church that remain faithful, too. Might be a sign to come for work in other protestant denominations that are falling in the West but strong in Africa and Asia. We have to start treating this country like mission territory, because it is. I welcome the growth of orthodoxy and traditional catholicism
I don't recommend playing hacky sack with a big cross on the edge of a cliff.
I watched the entire rant, and Father Trenham missed the mark entirely. Atheism isnt on the rise. In the US, around 4% of the population identify as atheist or agnostic. On the other hand, people identifying as unaffiliated is on the rise. Many researchers point to a number of factors contributing to the increase of self-identified unaffiliated, such as a country's priority of religious freedom, society no longer views church attendance as obligatory, increased understanding of religious texts from archeological and historical evidence, inability to find new place of worship that aligns with an individual's values, etc.
Woah… a wealthier, educated middle class doesn’t believe in god. And I thought it gets wet when it rains.

If a chair exists, there must be a chair maker...
I think as more people live comfortable lives they turn away from religion and spirituality because they don't need it. When life gets more difficult for people they need it to cope with pain and uncertainty. The religious right in America wants to promote policy that will increase pain and uncertainty so more people are forced to become religious and then once they are religious they will vote conservative. Policy like banning abortion will make life miserable for people forced to become parents. Taking apart the social safety nets will also create more uncertainty. People will be more afraid of stuff like being homeless or losing all their money to medical bills and will be forced to become religious.
The right is doing their best now to convince everyone things are terrible. The more people who believe this and then vote conservative the more terrible it will get. Liberals need to build the safety nets but it is much easier to destroy and obstruct so conservatives have the advantage here. However as technology increases and life gets better for everyone more and more will become atheist unless something very bad happens.
Material prosperity aka "comfortable lives" is not the same as spiritual prosperity. All the money and property in the world won't necessarily make you happy; If it did, the western suicide/mental illness rate wouldn't be so high. Becoming obsessed with material over the immaterial is not a sign of progress, and crisis events do not "force" people to become religious. If that were the case, baptized Orthodox Christians would not have become murderous atheist bolsheviks after Russia lost WW1 and spiraled into collapse; Instead, by your hypothesis they would've doubled down on their Christianity or some other transcendental religion. Bolshevik atheism was a cult of personality, to be sure, but a rabidly atheist one and therefore unworthy of the moniker "religion"; It was entirely focused on worldly things.
This is not the first time an advanced society has become decadent and therefore degenerate, (see imperial Rome for the western example par excellence) and I personally doubt it will be the last. Lose the left-right false dichotomy Jake, history goes much deeper than the French Revolution.
That might work, if people didn't automatically blame the God Squad for making the world suck.

It's a tragedy, a big tragedy my brother. I can't help but grunt with me being a servant of passions (especially lust and prideful view on others). If you can pray for me, if not I can find some saints, they inspire me
I expect some will find Christ after seeing how empty it all is in the end
@@DesertsOfHighfleet try the liturgy of the hours brother. for me sanctifying time and having something to do seven times a day was the key. i don’t know what resources are in orthodoxy for the laity to do that (i am an anglican) but i’m sure your spiritual father will. you might also like erik varden, the roman catholic archbishop of norway’s, book on chastity. i will pray for you:)
Maybe if the Catholic holy men were rubbing one out, they'd leave choir boys alone.
@@James-f5p8tI have yet to even speak with a spiritual father, I am in some sort of limbo between lutheranism and orthodoxy, but I am definitely orthodox minded. thank you, I'll look for these
I found orthodoxy after 14 years of searching for truth and conspiracy theories aka real truth and satan worshipers made me research God and obv i side w God and good and i research more and accepted Jesus and denied church and veneration but now after 7 years of more research at 33 i want to be baptized and hopefully will soo into serbian orthodox church
Unfortunately Gen Z had a very poor example many times from their Gen X parents. I also think their generation is too smart to fall for easy beliefs and no Lord ship of salvation. I have heard numerous times how God has been taken out of schools which is true. He was also taken out of many homes prior or He would still be in schools. I think Gen Z is too intelligent for the televangelist. This is why the Orthodox Church is needed more than ever. They are no different in their desire for direction.
My parents are gen x and I am a younger millenial. I don't understand how these gen z and alpha kids turned out the way they did lol
@@corackadileIn my opinion some were set up for failure unintentionally. We were raised like wolves because society was much safer. We tried to take the same stance on a godless society and it exposed kids to a fallen World. I don't say this to bad mouth Gen Z, but many were set up for failure. The major difference was alot of my generation were made to go to church , I wasn't as staunch as my parents but better than most. Our World was simply a little less visibly falling. It's our fault for not raising kids properly. Hug your parents and praise God if they gave you what you needed, and if they didn't praise God that He found you special enough to give you the open heart for Him. That gift surpasses all generations.
