Great video. I actually remember the old BHX when my sister and I did exchanges with French penfriends back in the latter part of the 1970s. Unfortunately have lost touch with those penfriends but have found current day BHX great for visiting my other French penfriend, Florence, in Paris (first visited by combo train and ferry back in the latter part of the 70s) during the past few years. Thank you to Emirates for the fact that I am able to fly Auckland (NZ) to Dubai with just a 2 hour stopover and then to Birmingham International so that I am able to have extended visits with my precious family back home in England. The monorail is really helpful for travelling from Birmingham International station to airport and back again.

Lovely to hear that BHX is providing a gateway for your travelling, I've had a few friends fly into Birmingham to come and meet me from abroad. Fully agree with the Monorail, not all airports are lucky enough to have one and it's very helpful!

@@WestMidlandsAviation You are soooooooo lucky to have a monorail! In Auckland there isn't even a train line going to the airport. You either have to get a taxi or 3 buses from where I live (and 2 of those buses are not really equipped to take luggage - go figure!). Even when I used to live near the airport I could only get there by taxi or bus or get a friend to drop me off. Got to say travelling on public transport to/from the airport is better in Paris than London because they have such a good cost-effective transport system there and you can actually get an unlimited week travel pass (Carte Navigo Decouverte) for the whole of the Ile de France using Paris metro, trains (but not TVG high speed, intercity or the Orlyval trains) trams and buses for only 22.80 Euros whereas the cost for a single to get me from Charles de Gaulle airport to Les Vallees costs 19 and a bit Euros. You save heaps by investing in Navigo pass which you can buy at the airport before boarding a train. You just need a photo and pay 5 Euros to get the pass to start with and then you can top up as required. Just a note for any travellers: The pass validity starts on Monday morning, first service (usually around 05:30) and ends the following Sunday at last service (metro trains usually arrive at their terminus station around 01:40). and will cost you the 22.80 Euros whenever in the week you buy it. You cannot buy it after Thursday midnight for the week that you are in. You are able to buy one for the following week from Friday morning onwards. It is possible to buy a monthly pass if you are going to be in Paris/Ile de France for an extended period. See this website for information: parisbytrain.com/paris-train-metro-week-pass-navigo-decouverte/.

I remember leaving BHX for AKL in June 2019.I really loved the Monorail from the Train station to the Airport. I was most impressed with how modern and fresh the Airport was.

It is not a monorail, it is a people carrier that runs on two rails, a monorail operates on one concrete rail as in the the name mono, ie one. there are no major monorails operating in the UK, The only major one operated at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre in Brierley Hill which was sold to the Far East about 10 years ago

Fantastic Video! BHX is my local, its a great airport. Its still not right without Monarch, they were brilliant and really dominated. I always used to fly with them, I use Thomas Cook now, who are also very very good. Its always nice to check in in the new bit with Thomas Cook. I wish the TUI check in was still purple with Monarch!

Thankyou! Yeah I agree, always miss Monarch every time I head to BHX. They were our No.1 airline in our family too, always used to fly with them and never a bad service. I've never flown with Thomas Cook before but hoping to soon.

Nice informative video, BHX is a tad closer for us than MAN and have used it many times and seen the changes. One thing In my opinion that didn't improve is the viewing area, they used to have via a lift an upstairs room in the terminal with a small café/ shop where you could spend hours in comfort viewing out a huge window. It'd be so much better having that rather than a few benches out in the cold!

Great video of the airport, I’m flying from BHX in October to Fuerteventura for my belated 50th birthday, not flown from there since the 90s so it’s changed quite a lot lol, thanks for again for the great video.👍👍

Didn't Ryanair used to have their check-in desks in the new building by flybe?

    • @carlmaster9690

They still do. The new area is Terminal 2. It was built in 1991.
