I remember when the 1600E came out (about 1968). It was, effectively, a 1600GT with "accoutrements". It looked very graceful and you could turn up _anywhere_ and not be ashamed. It was, sort of, an oversized Radford Mini Cooper. All male teenagers saw the 1600E as a car we could aspire to and have a reasonable chance of attaining. We all wanted Ferraris but, deep down, we knew this was a pipe dream. Not so with the 1600E. It was fast, luxurious elegance and was a realistic proposition.

My dad had an Austin 10 which he re built AS IT WAS GIVEN TO HIM BY MY GRAND DAD I hated it as all my mates dads had more modern cars Then one day my dad bought a
Hilman Minx yes a Hilman super Minx what a car what a dad I was now in the "in crowd" I was so proud of him for getting this car it had a white steering wheel it was massive
it had rear lights just like the American cars it even had white wall tyres How proud I was to the point I asked my dad to stop at the school gates and pretend he had an issue
so all my mates could see what I was getting out of "HOW SAD IS THAT " Those were the days and to my knowledge still are !!! My daughter asked me to take her to school in the T>V>R
Why I asked Well she said its a hot day and its good to get the roof down !!! Yes you are right its good to get the roof down ???? So off in the T.V.R. we went as we arrived at the school gates
she said just hang on a minute dad I need to check my phone I think I have a message Once again history repeats itself When will we learn material things mean nothing says he with a T.V.R.,
and wishing he had a turbo porche 911 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For us in Essex, England it was what trim of Ford Fiesta or Escort your dad had. My dad had a blue Mk 2 1.6 that he'd fitted twin carbs, a new air intake, better exhaust and fiddled cams on and also took full advantage of the weight loss brought upon by rust and I distinctly remember him beating a BMW 325i in a drag race with it. It was faster than his mate's XR3 too.. He still misses that car and I wish I was rich enough to buy him one.

In 1978, when I was 15, my uncle who was a great mechanic, gave an engine overhaul for a farmer friend (in Ireland), to his 1968 Mark II Cortina. He was weeks at that car and did a great job fixing it. The car was only ten years old at the time and was in beautiful condition. Metallic green was the colour. When he decided to test the car, he insisted on his 13 year old son to drive it. The boy was a good driver, but wild at the wheel. The strip of land he tried it on was unusual, that it had a bog on each side. The strip of land was about half a mile long, leading into the farm. We all watched as the boy drove the car down this strip of land. He did about thirty, as his father told to do. But on his way back, he put his foot down. The car skidded and took a quick right turn into the bog. The boy got out, but the car sunk like a brick. A couple of days later, the farmer took a tractor, near the bog, to kind of pull the car out. The tractor got stuck, so he got another tractor to get the stuck tractor out and that one got stuck too. My uncle told me that the car was never taken out of the bog and that the tractors were stuck there for years. I wish I had a video of that.

My dad never had "cool" cars when I was growing up, not after he sold his Datsun 510. Twenty years ago he bought a Miata and I just about flipped, as he finally bought a neat car. I remember in 2008/2009 when my dad got a new car: a Peugeot 407.
My mom drove a BMW before and after, but i sadly can’t remember what model it was. The only thing I remember about it was that is was black and had 3 doors because we always had to push the chair forward to get in the back.
And back then I didn’t really mind the Peugeot because i didn’t really know what a ugly car looked like.
But I can’t really reason why my dad found the Peugeot a good looking car back then.
But if anybody know’s the model of the 3 doors ( so it wasn’t big or anything like that) black BMW built between probably 1990 and 2004/2005 feel free to tell me.

When my parents were married, our family car was a 1962 Buick Skylark in canary yellow with a black vinyl top. My friends' parents had the Pontiac LeMans and a host of other, very much better looking cars than our stubby little Skylark. When my parents divorced, however, the Skylark gave way to my father's '68 Ford Mustang fastback in red and my mother's '71 Olds Cutlass hardtop in apple green. So, there you have it: if you're married and want a stylish ride, get a divorce.
