Hi all! I'm here with the follow up to my last video, the chosen of Eilistraee! I really wanted to try and go for something similar to a Bladesinger and I think I managed to make something interesting! This build was really fun to make, and is one of my favourite builds for actually interacting with the game's story. There a ton of unique events and dialogue for drow in BG3, especially those alligned with Eilistraee!

A couple of notes based on my own playthroughs:
    - Another good background would be Guild Artisan. Followers of Eilistraee appreciate all arts and trades, with a particular interest in smithing.
    - Ranged weapons are heavily discouraged. There's a long story behind it.
    - Sure, Eilistraee's domains are life, light, and nature... but I figure lightning and thunder are as natural as anything.
    - This is one of those rare instances where an unarmored build would make sense. Every ritual and custom for Eilistraeeans seems to be clothing-optional.

I was thinking how to make an unarmored build for Eilistraee's sword dancer. May be few levels from monk class or barbarian could work?
      How would you build it?
Would be so nice to dance clothless for Eilistraee while going for Ansur for example

@@j1n2 going Barbarian would be the most efficient. Monk would be stronger but requires you to make unarmed attacks to make it work. So going dex barbarian or using potions of giants strength would allow you to reach good armor rating while not having to invest too many wasted point into wisdom.

@@j1n2 There is unfortunately not much in terms of multiclassing that will help an unarmored build. Monk offers some benefits but there's a lot of wasted potential in terms of weapon abilities.
Lore-wise, Valour Bard makes a lot of sense but using both CHA and WIS for casting feels like being spread too thin. I would just keep it simple, stick to War or Tempest Cleric, and use other means to improve your defenses (Defensive Duellist feat, Bracers of Defense, etc).

If you do all that, he will set up shop in the last light inn and sell the gloves

Just want to point out, if you want to power game just a little bit, grab the Darkfire Shortbow in Act 2 near where you get the Yuan-ti Scale Mail. Resistance to Fire and Cold damage is nothing to sneeze at on its own, but also a free use of Haste is always welcome. Plus you can use your ranged Flourishes with it.
Also another choice for gloves, I highly recommend the Woundrous Gloves from late in Act 1. A +1 to Armor Class, and an additional use of Bardic Inspiration.
If you choose to use a Shield with your sword, the Safeguard Shield can be bought right in the Emerald Grove and grants a novel +1 to all saving throws. So you have an awesome sword and a useful shield both in Act 1.

I like this build so much that I have planned my version for when I'll be able to co-op with friends:
    Build:
    - Seldarine Drow of course, starting as Bard.
    - Lvl 2 in War Cleric (there's a branch of eilistraeeans that are are devoted to war against demons and such) and then back to bard until Lvl 4 Bard
    - Lvl 4 (3 Bard / 1 Cleric) College of Swords of course
    - Lvl 5 (4 Bard / 1 Cleric) Dual Wielder feat for Phalar Aluve and +1 Rapier
    - Lvl 6 (which should match finding the Phalar Aluve more or less) multiclass in PALADIN of the Ancients, whose tenets seem to have good synergy with eilistraeean doctrine until lvl 2 Paladin
    - Back to bard until lvl 9 (6 Bard / 1 Cleric / 2 Paladin) and then back to Paladin until lvl 12 and ASI Feat for Charisma
    - Lvl 12 respec to have 5 Bard / 1 Cleric / 6 Paladin to have Bardic Inspiration restored on Short Rest, Extra Attack, Aura of Protection and one 5 lvl spell slot
    Core gear:
    - Phalar Aluve
    - Harmonic Dueller
    - Diadem of Arcane Synergy (which stacks with Harmonic Dueller's skill)
    - Possibly the Graceful Cloth to reach 18 Dex / 18 Cha, since taking Ethel's Hair wouldn't be in-character
The rest should be just to make the build stronger, like Whispering Promise (probably gonna cure a lot) to have higher attack rolls, Reverberation gloves and boots and so on. 18 AC total but AC can be increased with spells and skills. War Cleric is definetly not mandatory, I just like the idea of having Divine Favour for free, so it could be Life, Nature or Light Cleric too. If I really really want Aura of Warding from Ancients' Paladin I can ditch a level in Bard (that Bardic Inspiration restoration on short rest though, sigh) and go for 7 Paladin.
If my research is correct, this build is extremely lore-friendly, incredibly versatile and supportive, and can dish out nice damage too.

I love the idea of this build! I also love seeing builds that are focused more around theme rather than min-maxing everything. That said, one little tweak that I think might be nice for this and still stay on theme is going Light Domain rather than Life Domain. You get Warding Flare at level 1 of Light Domain, which allows you to use your reaction upon being attacked to send out a burst of light and impose Disadvantage, possibly causing the attack to miss. It's pretty awesome. Just my two cents, of course. Regardless, love this concept!

This build inspired my current half-drow twins playthrough. I’m just playing separate save files, but the idea is mirrored campaigns. Brother (Anansi) is tempest cleric of Lolth/spore Druid.
Sister (Fei) is a life cleric of Eilistraee/Paladin OotA/Lore Bard. Protection style fighting from paladin to impose disadvantage on enemies. Heavy armour and shield for high AC. Dumped Wisdom but only took 2 levels, so i selected sanctuary and create water. Put those points into Charisma and Strength. Dumped Dex and wear the gloves of dexterity for 18dex.
Got speak with animals for free from Paladin, most of the ritual spells in general, bunch of spell slots for those smite/healing/command/etc spells. She’s got so many spell options and ways to heal friendlies, or debuff enemies, or add terrain effects. I’ve just finished Act 2 and she is an absolute tank and so fun to play. Her party is Evocation Gale, MonkLock Wyll, and Barbarian/Ranger Karlach. One of the best team compositions I’ve made so far!
Thank you for the inspiration 😊

For a more melee focused version of the build, I went with Sword Bard (6) / Fey Warlock with Blade Pact (5) / War Domain Cleric (1).
This build lets you do 3-4 attacks with your main hand weapon without any buffs. Blade Pact makes it so your weapon scales with your charisma modifier and you cannot drop your weapon. War Domain lets you use a bonus action to make another main hand weapon attack, but only 3 times per long rest with one level in it. But it also gives you proficiency with all weapons, shields and all armors. You also get some useful cantrips and access to sanctuary.
If you're on PC and use mods, 5E Spells really spices up gameplay. Warlocks gets access to the Green-Flame Blade and Booming Blade cantrips. They also get Spirit Shroud at level 5, which causes you to deal additional necrotic, radiant or cold damage on weapon attacks.

lyre and flute seem closest to Eilistraee's favored instruments too - apparently the goddesses favored instruments are the harp, the flute and the horn - apparently there is something called a harp lyre - in real life anyway, so yeah - and the flute is just directly one of the goddesses main picks - so that works too - and hunting horn isn't really available in bg3 so, yeah, that just leaves the other two options to stay close to the lore, or such is what I managed to find reading around the internet.
also, small after thought - Eilistraee's clergy are actually noted for having portal magic after some fashion, mainly used for sneaking into Lolth controlled areas, it seems - so teleport would be something to consider at some point, just for lore, but yeah, there are probably better picks.

Really glad I found this video! I've started a few games as a Drow, and loved the unique dialogue options. My Drow Paladin of Selune had a very different conversation with Nettie just cause her immediate suspicion made me choose more cagey options, so I saw new things with her there.
I think this video convinced me to make this for my next character where I recruit Minthara on a good playthrough (now that that's an option without exploits). The enemies to friends (or lovers?) story is delicious, and I honestly don't know how she reacts to an Elistraee Drow since she herself is Lolth-sworn but also Lolth's biggest hater.
I could even give her a few levels in Fighter so she can get two weapon fighting and actually dual wield maces like she's supposed to. Evil Paladin and Good Bard fighting side by side with their respective dual wielded weapons.

Nice job, I love thematic builds!
My main playthrough was a similiar thematic concept but I went at it a bit different. Given the selection in the game for a sword dancer, I opted for roughly equal levels in bard/monk and embracing the dancing aspect & devotion through music, to gain college of swords flourishes & also gain a few Elements monk moves that i could translate in my head. I do miss out on the actual deity tag (Why Larian why!) though, but I guess I could have dipped a cleric level. I really loved it, despite the stats spread. :p
A con of 12 was 'exciting' to say the least, but it worked out with the mobility and ways to avoid damage. Also, like you said this type of build feels really appropriate to be the face of the group, too.

the wording in duelling is confusing but it just means you cannot hold a 2h weapon or a versatile weapon by themselves (ie when you hold versatile with both hands), and you also cannot have a weapon in your off hand
Holding a Versatile weapon with a shield satisfies both of these conditions, since a shield makes you hold the weapon with only one hand, while having no weapon in your second hand

im gonna try this build next, but im also of the mindset of "minimizing dump stats" so ill be going 8 16 14 8 12 16 instead. and as a side note int being a dump stat is so heartbreaking, youd think that in a campaign revolving mindflayers that int saves would be more important lol

    • @HoboZone
      @HoboZone  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I really wish INT had more uses in this game. Charisma is useful for half the classes in the game but INT only really has Wizard. I know Eldritch Knight and Arcane Trickster exist but they're not exactly popular choices.

@@HoboZone i know, right? i think the biggest fix would probably just be giving the illithids a bigger presence then just the final battle. or at least give some of the absolute the illithid powers too. there's a few mindflayer encounters in bladurs gate and rivington, but not in enough of a force to actually be a threat. and by the same time you get the chance to become one yourself (legitimately, i remember there being a glitch where you could become a flayer early, act 2ish?) its super underwhelming cause you still have all your, arguably better, class features on top of the illithid ones so you have to force in the illithid powers even moreso. and neither can even do the one thing the mindflayers are known for, Devour Intellect! neither the PCs nor any encounterable enemies can have a low enough int score to make proper use of the ability, with the exception of the tiny amount of goblins that just so happen to spawn as obvious fireball targets. or maybe officially add in the artificer class, at least giving us one other class that can actually use int in a substantial way

One little fun thing I found for CHA classes, is you can get it to 22 without using a feat for it. Start at 17, use Ethel's hair for 18, buy Birthright in act 3 sorcerous sundries to get 20, and pickpocket Duke Ravenguard's longsword for 22. I haven 't tested if you can get it to 24 with ASI, the mirror, and the sword (no listed limit on the sword.)

    • @HoboZone
      @HoboZone  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I've found this, too. Haven't tested the mirror myself yet, but you shouldn't be able to go over 22 due to the limit on the hat. It would stop functioning if your stat is at least 22 without it.

Ive had similar thoughts on when i first looked into Phalar Aluve on the Wiki when i found it. I knew i needed to do a playthrough as a good drow.
This then led me to go hang on what about adding a Minthara Romance, because how cool it would be have a Seldarine drow and lolth drow romance.
Then i was like well how do i justify doing all the bad stuff you have to do to get Minthara.
Then it clicked the redemption of the Dark Urge. Reject Baal and return to Elistraee.
All i needed was a build but i put that on the back burner because i now have several Playthroughs going already.
However this is definitely the build to use and im going to use it and use the Lolth build for Minthara.

One day he gets his chance to prove himself as he and band of other drow are sent to track down a runaway servant. While having first watch at camp he hears a song and becomes enchanted as he discovers a party of Elistrae dancing around the fire. His team notices he’s gone, they capture the servant who was a part of the party and the night before their execution he frees them. Running away and finding a new destiny in Elistrae.

Hear me out, i think i've come up with a pretty decent build:
    10 Sword bard/ 2 war cleric:
Rocking the phalar aluve all the way, starting with 17 dex + hag hair + asi would get you to 20. War cleric gets you divine favor, and even with 8 wis you could still get sanctuary. Second feat (or first) you go with great weapon master. The gimnick of the bouild would be stacking small dmg buffs on yourself with bonus actions, with divine favor+the conc. ring, which is +2d4, and healing word+broodmother amulet for a +1d6, plus the caustic band and phalar aluve skill for another +1d4+2.
Since you're a sword bard you'd wanna swing your sword, not cast spells from the back line. For magical secrets you'd take banishing smite and thunderous smite. With that and all your flourishes you'd really feel like you've mastered the sword. Basically all your spell slots would go into that, with the rest going into utility like enhance ability, knock and so on.
Later on you could boost your cha to 20 too with birthright and the mirror or go for 22 dex and one of the crit helmets.

Here is a build idea, a self-hating half-drow priestess of lolth.
Lore wise there was a disagreement between lolth and corellon larethian when they were lovers. Lolth wanted more, and some sh-t went down bad. Originally drow were created in lolth's image by corellon larethian because he loved lolth, but because lolth is literally like a crazy-ex she wants to corrupt all drow since its a way of hurting corellon larethian as he is like the father of all elves.
I think a half-drow could have disdain for their darker herritage because of negative experiences that shaped their believes. Like lolth, they'd hate elves in general and moreso that because they are a half-drow (a thin blood): they are a perversion of corellons image.
I think a half-drow might come oto the conclusion to worship lolth over their shared hatred of things elf and fey.
Dumb and stupid backstory? Yes absolutely. Edgy? 150%, I'd be careful with this amount of edge since you could cut yourself on it. I'm thinking war cleric/barbarian/oath breaker paladin. 2 pally for smite, 5 barbarian for extra attack, 5 war cleric for war priest charges and level 3 spell slots.

One single target and one heal-all is enough. Why pick another heal all??? Makes no sense to me. Your performance as a healer is not getting better because you have more of the same.
You should definitely have picked 'enhance ability' as well for your protagonist build! It gives you Advantages in so many conversations! I would say it is a MUST for any talker other when friendship isn't an option.

With most recent patch using duel crossbows have been slightly nerfed for this build but could this be placated by swapping the Gloves of the Automaton with Gloves of the Balanced Hands giving you Two-Weapon Fighting and then forgoing the ability improvement for the +1 CHA/CON for Dual Wielder?

You don't actually need dual wielder for dual crossbows, only Two-Weapon Fighting. Final build would be Fighter 1/Cleric 1/Swords Bard 10.
