    Have a 610. As you can see it does not bog down. Smokes like a pig because the oiler is bizarre. Power is intense.

    The Clarke Griswold chainsaw is no slouch when it comes to firewood gathering. I have seen one of these that that served two generations and many cords of winter wood here in the PNW. Put a full skep 24 inch bar and chain on it and in soft woods it wull do well. I need to find me another of these old door stops.

    Nostalgia back in the day my dad and I went to big lots and bought 2 of them. For $100 bill you could get a factory reconditioned 610 a bottle of mix and a gallon of bar oil. We put many many hours on them.

    One thing is....That saw will work hard all day long with very few problems and if needed, they are easy to work on...service wise...

    Id like to see you run a Mac 125 before you dog Mac saws like this. Mac made a ridiculous amount of saws but theres some that are powerful pro saws that are awesome. This one isnt bad either.

    Dude that chain is staving for wood. It looks like you are throwing dust instead of chips. Work on your sharping and get a raker gage so the poor girl can eat.

    I just discovered a Mac 610 In my Father in Laws garage. Gonna be going through it soon. Poured fuel down it and it fired off. I'll be following your progress bud, enjoy the McBrick!

    I inherited one of these, from a firewood guy, he died on the job (firewoodin) not the other one 😅.
    It came as a throwaway .
    With a Husky 288, and an 090, and I got told about the 610, that he rated it.
    I guess if it cuts good and is reliable, it can be ugly.
    You had enough respect to pull it rope on shutdown, that says something.
    You are no joke Boedy. 👍

    First saw I ever bought for myself. Bought it at a yard sale for 50$. It was MINT! I cut half the world with that thing lol 😆 it was famous for recoils screwing up and the screen plugging in the carb. Other than that it just ran so good. That’s where it all started for me a long time ago

    My father inlaw had one. Over the years I remember seeing it now and again. While Cleaning the storage I found it. It's been just over a year since his passing. I'll have to get it running.

    They are a piece of Americana; I have many Mccullochs; i have the entire cinder block line; 605,610,650 and a 655. they are what they are. They do have electronic ignition that is really simple; i have never had a spark problem. Thanks for showing it off; It would be cool to see if you could hot rod it.

    I have a 610 and a 650, both of them smoke like that until they get warmed up. There is no quit in that 650, very torquey saw. And both of them still run good. I keep them around in my collection as they are just so reliable, they always run.

  • @griffinphilemon5083

    I've got a ported 605 and it's a ripper. Has some torque for sure. Not too difficult to work on but being a clam shell there's not a whole lot you can do other than port timing and piston work and an ignition timing advance.

    I have a 620.... they are tough saws!
    I just got an 020av that hasn't been started in 26 years to fire off and it runs great!! That old gas didn't do the damage gas does now!

    My Dad bought a new one back in the late 80s, he cut alot of firewood with it. I have used it quite alot as well. Its on my shelf now. I found another in super good shape that was a 610 also but it didn't run the same as my Dad's. Well after looking the one I have has thick rings in it, my Dad's has thin rings, his seems to rev higher and harder.

      Yes, this is required knowledge, especially since who knows how many unnamed personages need to know in case they have one in the shed.

    Those saws have a rubber diaphragm oiler that is common to not work. Easy to replace and cheap. The oiler is under the air lid under the handlebar. 3 or 4 screws and it's out

  • @BamaPerformanceAndVintagesaws
    @BamaPerformanceAndVintagesaws ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Most 610s have the 650 exhaust port shape outlined to be ported to, that and the piston is the only difference between a 610 and 650

    Sharpen the chain and file the rakers down more. Yours is reving too high and not getting the work done. I file my rakers down to the point that the engine can't rev that high because the chain is taking bigger bites. My 610 cuts twice as fast as that without reving to the moon.

    A pm610 was my first experience with McCullough. Fixed one up for a buddy 4-5 years ago, I wasn't disappointed in it's performance. Have actually been thinking about checking ebay again!

  • @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156
    @mrobsoletesvintagehomestea9156 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Mac 610 you have looks like the super 610, as it has the opening on the side cover for the compression relief valve. If it doesn't have the valve it is just a standard 610. The super has an extra port in the cylinder and an enlarged exhaust port. It is exactly the same as a Mac 650 other than the decal. Where are you going to find a powerful and useful saw like the 610 for $14, the answer is nowhere ! I bought a used 610 in 1980, that was 2 years old for $35. I use this same saw all year long, and have done so for the last 43 years, with no major repairs. How many saws do you have that can match that performance? The answer is none ! Durability and performance is why so many of us use these saws over just about anything else. We don't care about a slick looking turd saw that won't do the work or last . When you mentioned that you had some of these Macs that didn't run, You probably just forgot to put gas in them HA HA !!! Anyway, good video.

    What an awesome project glad you thought of it.
