Great piece of Tape from Monroe's Opry performances from 1966. These were more than likely recorded off the air by Lamar's wife as they were playing live. Really enjoyed this Dave!

I think Lamar Grier is often overlooked as very capable banjo player. I find this particularly interesting as he played good tone, timing and taste. For those who dont know Lamar was a left handed player. Love the twin fiddles of Richard Greene and the great Buddy Spicer.

For the record, the left-handed banjo man with Monroe back in the day was Don Lineberger.
Lamar Grier, heard here, was right-handed.

Lamar Grier (David Grier's father) is the fine RIGHT-HANDED banjo picker heard here. [Don Lineberger (NOT heard here) was the left-handed banjoist you are thinking of.] Doug Benson

I have to think Scotty Stoneman liked Richard Greene.

Scotty Stoneman was a major influence on Greene. Stoneman even lived in Greene’s apartment in LA for a few weeks.

Green used to sit at Scotty's feet at the Ash Grove in the earlier 60s[so did I] when Scotty played with the White Brothers and the Kentucky Colonels, and Green was with David Lindley and the Dry City Scat Band.
