Novation FLkey 37: The Best MIDI Controller You Can Buy

  • For FL Studio.
The FLkey 37 and Mini are both fantastic controllers for the price. Yes, the difference between Launchkey and FLkey is a little jarring. But you could say the general lack of love for FL Studio across the entire MIDI hardware manufacturing sphere is far worse. This is the first MIDI controller for FL Studio, and while it's not perfect, it has the same high build quality and intuitive user experience that Novation is known for.
If you are an FL Studio user, the FLkey 37 and FLkey Mini are the best MIDI controllers available right now.

Well it's about time. I've been using FL for years on and off and have never been able to find a decent controller that just works with FL without having to spend hours trying to set the damned thing up. I was about to pull the trigger on an Oxygen Pro, but I may have to reconsider that choice. Thank you for the video 👍

Still takes a few hours unless you have experience setting up controllers. It took me 3 hours almost with using TH-cam, and Google. Comes with no instructions and the startup guide is god awful, don’t get me wrong the keyboard is amazing. I have the mini and it’s crazy good, but the setup is far from ‘plug and play’ like it’s advertised.

I feel your pain. I agree w @CorruptInfinity tho- it wasn't really plug and play which I was kind of surprised. It wasn't that bad, but there was a few steps more than what you usually need to do to set up a controller so I still had to go to a video too. But now that I've actually messed around with it, it's such a breath of fresh air as an FL user lol. It's so much better than anything else I've had in terms of the daw control, while at the same time the keybed feels as great as any of the more "serious" options in this price range.

I have the fl fire and although I've seen the reviews are mi(as with any hardware) it's pretty darn good, and it was plug and play of the rip which was the cool . I will say the lack of touch sensitive keys or buttons is a kick in the ass but overall it's made production much faster. I also have the Mpc studio 2 that I found out you can use as a vst which basically loads the entire program into fl studio . This is awesome because it allows me to learn both daws at once 🔥🔥🔥

I LOVE that MUO has taken a fork leading in this direction!
I've never used FLStudio so I was lost either way, lol. I'm just starting using Live now and thinking of giving Reaper a go, as well. Lots to learn either way. Great review!
    Right now I'm running:
    1990s Casio WK-1800 workstation/synth/controller,
    KORG Wavestate,

I don’t play piano but I want to learn, is it really that important to have more than 3 octaves plus octave shift buttons?
I also have a 61 key midi that I set up when I want to do more traditional composition, I like The 37key it’s already pretty clunky for only being 37 keys

    • @sn7669
      @sn7669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@DAYDAYBEATZ Hi, if you want to learn how to play especially on piano and not other instrument, you will need the whole range (88 keys). Those small keyboards (37,49,61 keys) are made to get more space on your work table and do some simple compositions. But when you are working with huge VST's and willing to use piano VST for any kind of project, the 88 keys is the best choice here cause you can exploit it on its max without shifting ranges with a button.

The Novation FLkey is identical to the Novation Launchkey, just with a simple FL MIDI script and more expensive (at least in Europe).
It only has a disappointing 37 keys, no faders and the pads seem awkward to use with the step sequencer since they only cover 2 beats.
I find it deceiving that Novation would try to pass off an old controller that wasn't designed for FL as an official FL controller.
The Nektar Impact LX61+/LX88+ has more keys, has faders, has MIDI scripts for almost every DAW and still manages to be cheaper than Novation's rather lazy attempt at a dedicated FL controller. At least AKAI made some effort with the Fire (even if it's also lackluster).

Fun video, but one thing... you mention "FL Studio vs. Ableton Live". Why the "versus"? And why does Live "win"? Sorry, but I think that's a bit silly. See, I've been using Live for well over 10 years and somewhat recently re-discovered FL Studio (after Reason dropped support for ReWire). And now I always use the two together. I mean, you _are_ aware that FL Studio provides a VST plugin thus allowing it to be used inside any DAW you want? ;)
Also... why would I care about your opinion considering who you were? If you provide solid arguments to 'build' your case then... shouldn't your arguments be able to speak for themselves? ;) PS: fun seeing the MPD24 again, I've been using that critter for over 8 years or so before I eventually moved to Maschine.
