Early a century ago, the last 36 residents were evacuated from the most remote part of the British Isles, St Kilda, an isolated archipelago off the beautiful and rugged western coast of Scotland.
After 86 years, the music of St Kilda has been discovered, recorded in a Scottish care home by Trevor Morrison, an elderly man who was taught piano by an inhabitant of St Kilda. Heard by the outside world for the first time these haunting melodies offer a last link to the so-called ‘island on the edge of the world’.

What a wonderful project, thank you all for the very great pleasure of hearing (and seeing) the lost songs of St Kilda. Such a privilege to have the CD and to see the programme on SBS TV this afternoon. We have fond memories of sailing past St Kilda a couple of years ago.

Why does this music wet my eyes? Bring in Wales I am fully aware of 'hiraeth' feeling homesick when one is at home but hearing this and the CD magnifies that feeling.

i'd buy the album/video to have the HISTORICAL treasure too much is LOST in favor of all things modern... to keep a connection to ones past through the beauty of historical music..it is a priceless treasure..
