I started Karting back in 1968 and quit in 1977.Too damned old at "60" but it still gives me a rush just watching you guys. Shifter karts were not even thought about then but the speed was there though. A "C" open could easily hit 110 even back then! It sure takes me back. The Enduro races we did at the "IKF" Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Wheeeu thats a long time ago LOL! Awesome footage, great video!
no way man, join a 4 stroke masters class or a senior class for more speed or if u really wanna do rental karts with some older folks to have a really fun time, work together off track but race on track
Awesome!!! That track brings back alot of good memories! I know every turn, bump, part of that track and i haven't raced in 30 years....im 47 now. I raced from 7 to about 13 years old.
This is awesome! I am seriously considering getting into karting this summer. Have always wanted to do it... I live in St. Louis which is close to the Margay factory. They also just opened a road course just across the river! Watching this gets me even more motivated to make it happen!
man you cant get in to gokart npow because you are already teenagre if i am corect and the people who is driving gokart they started scince they were like 6 years old and iam driving gokart to but i started when i was 9 and now iam 15 because if u want to get god at gokart u have to start when u are litle kid because its so much trainig behind gokart
My father and i used to race there back in the 80's. My dad raced 2 stroke sprints (adult class) and i was in the junior class...my dad won several track championships and i won 2. I won a VKA championship when i was about 7(dad lied about my age) i was racing against kids that were 12-14 years old.
Hully shat! what a rush. I was right there in the drivers seat, looking out your helmet. Oooooo. and thats how i can tell you exactly what you did wrong. HA! what a great track. And great driving. Your cart was faster, he was toying with you. More experience or more BALLS?! I think he just knew that track way better. sorry to blab on, I was not in your squirrlely little seat. Great driving and THANK YOU. Good fun.
If skate boarding, surfing, bob sledding and stupid Equestrian is in the Olympics there is absolutely no reason why Kart racing is not apart of the Olympics. It should be.
Don't listen to the bad comments in karting you sometimes have to hold your position coz if you push to much you will cause an accident. You did good .
Gracias. Me ha gustado mucho el video.
Can you mount your camera to the front of the kart? Both perspectives are good but I'm curious to see the movement between the kart and the track, with a bit more stability to make it easier to watch more laps :)
Coming back to this after buying a shifter and racing here in August/October on Main. I was hitting 1:29's-30 in an X30. 1:24 seems like a good time to hit in the Stock Honda
One idea - when passing getting a tow/draft get far off line as fast as possible (straight) - or make it part of passing move - to prevent him from simply doing same. Ideally as early in straight as possible to reduce means to get in yours and cumulative effect at end of straight.
I was wondering what engine and axle sprocket do you guys use for big track road racing in a shifter ? I'm going to race on a big track for the first time next weekend up here in Canada with my TM k9b and I don't know witch sprocket i need to buy for big track like this. I'm currently using a 17T for the engine and a 22T for the axle and I know it his too short since I only do short track normally. Since both are 428 chain they should be pretty similar. Just curious ... Nice driving by the way !!!
I live in New York City and my son (14 yrs old) is nuts about Karting. He does exceptionally well on Indoor tracks, but wants to get into racing competitively on Outdoor tracks. I've searched, but so far have not found any outdoor Karting tracks in the New York area. Are there any in the area, and if so can you recommend where?
I've been doing track events at summit main for the last 17 years... This looks like way more fun lol.. How do you get to do shifter karts at summit point? I've done spk kart a couple times for fun, but it's on a tiny course
I race these karts with Woodbridge and the national road racing series. Definitely the cheapest mph per dollar you can get. You can find these karts for around $3-5k and expect about $500-600 a weekend to race. That's including wear items, track fees and rebuilds. Biggest expense is tires at $250 every 3 weekends (less if you wanna be more competitive), fuel + oil around $170 a weekend for 10gal and then engine rebuilds every 10 hours! Let me know if you really want to get involved. It sounds expensive but if you look at costs to race scca it's much cheaper.
Skaife Ward 120 130 depends on how you Gear it it can possibly go faster fuel also plays A Part but that's what's so fun about these sky's the limit with modifications the only thing that puts limitations on it is the regulations in the different race classes but if you own it and you just take it to the track to mess around or Buzz up and down the street sky's the limit
I have not done karting in a long time. Prob close to 10 years. I am racing enduro dirtbikes now aka hare scrambles. I do miss karting but could not afford it anymore@@apatinoracing
Got ya, sounds like fun! Also I agree, it's a bit pricey. That's why I'm going the Stock Honda route in terms of reliability. Keep up the racing@@latitude4
Awwee that's cute, boys and their little carts… :) Seriously though, I wouldn't want to get into the grass on one of those corners. Having one flip would make a really bad day. I think I'll stick to 2 wheels...

all these comments and no help... seems like tire pressure could be dropped by 1-2 psi, smooth turns and for faster exit speed take the turn more wide with a little more throttle and if possible move about 3-10 lb as far forward if ur feeling too much fish tail. lastly id say is your drafting, get way more close before you exit the draft to pass, straighten out as fast as possible and just pin it, if required then break slightly later, btw lower the frame as much as possible and same with the seat but not to far to cause it to drag. best of luck!
I don't mean to sound like that one guy criticizing everything, but u should have stayed in a line once u guys got situatated...stay in like formation to catch the front pack, get around them- stay in line and pull away then last lap to at it if u have room!

1972 IKF Grand Nationals at IRP...C Open hit speeds far in excess of 110 mph at the end of the main straight. Closer to 160 m.p.h.
G.L Haggard
And we would push down the front and back straights...and hope we did not get caught.
Got any footage?

Thanks for the ride!!! That looks like a ton of freakin fun!!!! ...YO! 🏁
+jasontman36 You are welcome!
God, I miss that. I went to bigger cars, but there was nothing like shifters on a big track.
Love the sound of two strokes!!!
That's insane track it's like karts from 1920
Why?
Awesome ride-along and a great day to race. Next time someone asks me why I like kart racing, I'll refer them to this. thankx... (love the GoPro)
your profile picture makes me hungry.

It's about who has the guts to keep the power on longer and brake later.

Gracias Mario.

The gearing for the stock honda might be different than yours but 19/23 it's a good starting point for us.

Saludos Juan Carlos!

Between $3500 and $9000 for a new one. 109 mph

Awwee that's cute, boys and their little carts… :)
Seriously though, I wouldn't want to get into the grass on one of those corners. Having one flip would make a really bad day. I think I'll stick to 2 wheels...
About as close to karting on the Sarthe as you'll ever get with that never ending front straight
What kind of engine are you running? 200cc?
cr125 honda
What's the top speed achieved on straights?
Honda shifters will top out around 105-110mph. Kz shifters around 110-115mph and superkarts around 120-130mph
this guy is going fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like so fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You had a lot of gaps to overtake and you didn't brake later. Why?
Tell me where! we are drafting a lot, sometime is better just to hold the position.
do you have to use clutch to change the gears all the time
No, we only use the clutch at the start.
What's the size of the engine? 125c?
Yes, it's a CR125 Honda engine.
nice track. need a damn 8 speed!

Yes, you do. Depending on the class and the club you are competing.
Thanks!
Lot of fun
adrenaline going crazy
Great video! I don't suppose you guys can survive a trip through the gravel. Laps in the 1:22 range? That's fast for a car!
Thank you, I was running low 1:23s but the top guys were doing low 1:21s.
So what would happen if you went off turn 3 and into the gravel? I assume there's a serious risk of flipping.
I have been out on 1 once and 2 times on 5. They are very difficult to flip but yes it could happen.
what`s the top speed?
110 mph/177 kph
