A lot of people don't like the power plant that sits next to the interstate on the NJTP shown in this video, but I kind of like it. I think it's different and unique. It's not your typical skyline or farmland. Great video!👍🏾
I have been taking the pike from Baltimore to Woonsockett Rhode Island to see relatives at least twice a year since 1950.That's about 150 trips. In the early days it took 10 to 11 hours to do the 400 miles but now it can be done in about 8 or 9.THe original toll was $1.25 for 118 miles to route 46.In the 60's an additional 4.4 miles were added for the trucks and is now around $16.
Ah, the NJ Turnpike on a sunny day! Done this drive from DC many a time. 01:38 Three cheers for the Grover Cleveland service area! And by some miracle the traffic on your trip on the Cross Bronx was actually not too terrible, all things considered, at least it was moving. Back home in Texas they would have long ago somehow figured a way to double deck that baby (they’re now double decking a section of I-35 northbound out of San Antonio). Keep on truckin, MMT, it’s a pleasure to watch. Keep safe from the crazy motorists on 95. Especially here in Maryland.
It would not have been a great idea to double-deck the CBE. In the first place, before it was constructed, the area was highly densely populated, with much displacement of people, thanks to Mr. Robert Moses. The Bronx is the borough I was raised in, and the impacts of that road were clearly experienced. In Texas, you most likely have the open space, but not in a densely populated borough in NYC. And why double-deck the CBE and pollute the air even more?
Excellent coverage again MMT! I have read about plans to 'cap' the X-Bronx. I wonder what your thoughts are on capping interstate highways through urban areas. The only concern for me would be fires.
As a native of NJ, I think our roads are smoother is because we call and complain and hold the state accountable for things that need to be done regarding the well-being of the state.👍🏾
@MileageMike can you review/drive on the southern tier expressway/quickway/ ny-17/ I-86? I’m looking for answers to why the southern tier expressway is not signed as I-86.
There was already existing neighborhoods in the path of I-95 in NYC. It was a difficult task biking the 6 lanes. I encourage you to search “Cross Bronx Expressway” to learn more about the challenges.
Unfortunately the highway through NYC was built decades ago when traffic was a lot less of a concern and now trying to widen it will cost a crap ton of money and also knock down a lot of buildings.
The GWB sure is very busy and it's the world's busiest bridge. In this video, it wasn't that traffic. However, I wish that toll plaza is replaced with a toll gantry.
The toll gantry is already there. All tollbooths are being removed and going cashless. Everyone has to get an EZ-pass if they plan on traveling throughout the northeast.👍🏾
It looks like there's a panhandler on the left side of the freeway. Either that, or somebody who is very foolishly trying to cross the expressway as a pedestrian. Incredibly dangerous place to be.
Traveled this route many times from North Carolina to Newark, NJ
Crazy how I-95 go from the massive NJ Turnpike in New Jersey to the cramp expressways in New York.
Perfect recipe for the disaster that is the Cross Bronx Expressway

I get that Terminator vibe every time i pass that place 🙂
Thanks for including the sound of the road. 👍
No problem 👍
Nice ride from New Jersey to new york along interstate 95 north/NJ turnpike
And also Connecticut
Recently I drove roundtrip between NYC and Boston on Interstate 95 also I have filmed it
16:20 😍😍🙌🏼
BET it’s an AWESOME drive!
One of these days we need to see Mike make a round trip upload of the NJ Turnpike. Plenty of trips there growing up with the family.
I couldn't have imagined that the surface of the George Washingtom Bridge would be so bumpy
Especially considering the high tolls they charge to cross it.

Oh yeah, no one builds them like Texas.

Usually a cap isn’t a bad idea. The issue mainly comes down to cost. It can be quite expensive in many places.
Just an observation Mike, why are New Jersey roads smoother and less potholes than New York?
As a native of NJ, I think our roads are smoother is because we call and complain and hold the state accountable for things that need to be done regarding the well-being of the state.👍🏾
Good question. I haven’t researched as to why but overall NJ definitely has superior roads than all the states nearby it.
15:06 that pavment sound sounds like Florida
is that downtown Manhattan @ 16:34?? Looks amazing..

95 should not have been planned with 6 lanes it should of been planned with 12 lanes or like how the NJ turnpike is

@@aerohydra3849 I know
Even Atlanta has a 13 lane freeway which is probably as bad

The tollbooth is scheduled to be removed in pieces sometime in 2023 or 2024 and they have no current function since the gantry is already working.
@@javierclyburn5688, tell you what. All cash booths are replaced with cashless tolling. When that happens, you'll get billed via mail.
