As someone who has worked in logistics I can tell you with the way international shipping prices are right now those prices probably don't have different margin % it just costs that much to get it to the US from Japan
I'm lucky enough to have a Japanese grocery store near me , and I will say that while it's not quite theme park prices, you are definitely paying a similar import premium. But those senbei are my favorite!
Hello! I'm Japanese!I'm not very good at English, so I don't know if it's correct, but I'll leave a comment!I really like Disney Park! And I recently discovered your videos and watch them every day! It's so much fun!I'm looking forward to it!Thank you for always having a great time! - Snack!
Regarding the prefectures at 6:08, it doesn't say Yamagata Prefecture. Yamagata is 山形県: That says Yamanashi Prefecture = 山梨県 While the other prefecture is Wakayama =和歌山県 Japan blows American Kit Kats out of the water to the point they make them look sad. And every time I see CC Lemon, I think of the cursed Simpsons commercials they did
You're correct. I mistakenly said Yamagata instead of Yamanashi and didn't catch it in editing. My brain saw "yama" and said what came to mind first. I'm not a native Japanese speaker so I make mistakes :)
@@tdrexplorer Completely understandable, we all do, and to be fair Japanese is a complicated language. Doesn't help that they borrowed from Mandarin, another complicated language
I promise snacks are half that price at Japanese grocery stores in the US, that there's the Disney tax lol, but now I need to go visit one and find salty litche to try!!
I actually don’t think/ don’t know how much control Disney has over pricing in there. The dept store in the Japan pavilion actually is not a part of Disney- that’s why you can’t use your Disney discounts in there
I was thrown off by the 珈琲 kanji haha. I have been really studying Japanese this year and it's pretty awesome that I can read a lot more of the kanji on the bags! Funny to see your reaction to the prices, but the thing is inflation has done quite a bit.
The Mitsukoshi dept store is actually a “separate entity” from Disney that the sponsors of the Japan pavilion put in- that’s why you also cannot use your passholder/visa/dvc discounts in there(not sure why other pavilions accept it but I assume it was up to the country sponsoring that pavilion, Epcots design ended up more complicated than expected). I’m sure there’s a lot of factors that go into the prices. I always make myself a little budget when I go- my city unfortunately has only a small handful of Japanese markets(which do see an import markup) and no real other shops so until I can afford another trip to japan it still lets me obtain things that doing so online cost way more. Glad to see you say you let yourself actually vacation on vacation- must be hard as someone with a travel blog to separate work but you deserve it! 😊
i saw you at epcot this day in the guardians queue but i wasnt sure if it was you or not - lol! i hope you enjoyed your visit! i love your videos and hope to visit tokyo disney one day! 💛
I thought I loved your videos because of the TDR content but this video made me realise it's actually your calm and happy vibes (because I know for a fact that Epcot can be very chaotic in the summer lol).
Yes you have to keep in mind imports aren't cheap. So while these products may be cheap in your country, that's because they're made in your country. Yup, you can't blame me this time around.
I can find a lot of this stuff at the local Asian supermarket and even Five Below (everything in the store is $5 or less) for way less than what Disney is charging. And you are not cursed for getting "I Ran" every time on Guardians! It's an awesome song. I would be SO happy because I'm a big fan of A Flock of Seagulls. LOL!!
I can get most of those snacks for not that much at all where I live in the Bay Area. Those Disney World prices are insane! It’s really a night and day difference between Disney World prices and Tokyo Disney prices, that’s for sure!
@@gabrielleangelica1977 its because for me not only the stress but the motion of the ride ended up giving me a seziure and for me mine aren't normal I have absence seziures
@@madelineaguilar302 That's too bad. I DID have a seizure when the lab took too many blood samples without eating the night before. I described it like Space 🚀 Mountain. It went dark, but I was not totally unconscious. Lights were flashing and my body was jolted! I could not move. Not fun...
we looove that yakisoba. At Asian grocery stores in the US I'd say they're about $4-5 each, so $6 isn't too much of a markup. On Amazon they re 4/$40 or 12/$85. So very expensive if you don't have a decent Asian grocery nearby!
Your reaction on the prices is the same as mine when I visited the Mexico pavilion and what some stuff cost (especially some stuff that’s not even popular or considered “good” in Mexico) 😂
My boyfriend wants to try all of the snacks! Lol 😅 love watching your videos. Never been to Japan but we are planning to go one day and will be looking for recommendations on your videos, thank you 😊
I’m so excited my family and I are going to Disney World in a few weeks and I know exactly where im spending all of my money now lol. Especially on all the different snacks! Thanks for the recommendations Chris!!
Very first time I ever had Hi-Chew was a pack I bought from an anime convention, one of the dealers had snacks and drinks from Japan. The flavor was grapefruit! I haven't seen the flavor for years, but it was amazing. I also love kiwi flavored, both Hi-Chew and in the Kasugai gummies.
You get the import markup AND the Disney markup in the Japan pavilion so most things there are really expensive. I’ll give them credit though, they have a better selection than what I’ve ever been able to get at local Asian Markets in the states
SNACK - I always get a bag of the Kaki No Tane (Kaki P) when I'm in the Japan pavilion here in Orlando. They're pretty sizable bags compared to all the other Asian supermarkets in my area, and they might cost a bit more, but it's worth it to me!
Snack!!!! First I love Bokksu. I subs to them tru you Cris and thanks for that. I got to experienced Japan. So near yet so far hahaha I think the price of snacks depends on were you buy them so yeah bit pricey but I definetly try the lemon candy since I love really sour foods. And oh I'm curious to try new Tea so I bet to try the one you mentioned. Thanks for another video. I crave to try snacks right now lol.
Do you think that one day you can make a video of the jurassic park merchandise and its restaurant in Universla Japon, I would really appreciate it since I only find Universal in the USA
Those prices...😱 Totally Disney mark up! You can find some of the items at Walmart or at a local Mitsuwa, Nijiya if you're out in the US. Sometimes Ranch 99 has them too for a lot cheaper. Yakisoba is delish! but definitely cheaper outside of Disney. Salty Lychee drink is one of my faves. Pocari Sweat price is the same for the bigger bottle! I would of made the cringe and OMG face as I checked the price for each one. 🤣
Snack. I would love to try the salty lychee drink. Those prices are the same as what you would pay at many Japanese and Asian grocery stores here in Australia, sadly a little expensive.
Not sure if this is a silly question but, with the Hojicha tea, do you put milk in it as well as water or is it a purely water based tea? Thank you and great video! X
I get that they import items, but so do all of the Asian markets around the Country where we can get all of this stuff. There is no reason to charge that much. They would probably sell so many more at a reasonable price.
Enjoyed seeing these every day in my life snacks outside Japan 🇯🇵 WOW at the sticker price though. Love Japan Epcot pavilion. Believe it or I worked in Epcot as a performer for a brief time many many years ago. I’d love to hear about your experience of going out and getting back into Japan 🇯🇵 I’m headed to Florida in 6 days for the parks and a cruise. I’m most nervous about the procedure to get out and get back in.
Love the video! Love the channel! I was curious if you’d be visiting the Ghibli theme park in November when it opens or some time after? (I’m not sure what your travel situation would be distance wise!) :)
It's disney, of course the prices are inflated... plus imports... ;) I can get a lot of those at my local asian market for probably half the prices they have at disney, still more expensive than actual Japan, but not AS bad. :) Like the Karamucho chips (one of my faves) are like 1.75~2.50 depending on the supply issues.
What did you think of current WDW in comparison to what you're used to at TDR? I worked for WDW in 2019 and then went back to visit earlier this year and was pretty disappointed by the experience (except dining where the cast and food are always just so sublime). Was your overall visit underwhelming comparing to TDR?
Have you ever tried the salted lychee kit kats? I bought them in epcot in december 2020 and I still dream about them (i also dream about finding them cheaper lol) I'll have to try the salted lychee drink next time! I had some snack that might have been fried beans in kyoto that I also still dream about that I couldn't find at the japan pavilion :( But this video was fun, I'll have to re-watch it before I go to epcot or japan :)
Ohh, I haven't tried that flavour! I didn't know that was a thing. The salted lychee is quite good and one of my favourites. Hmm, not sure what the fried beans could have been. Thank you for watching!
I love ramune the drink, growing up I always would crack the bottle open to get the little ball at the top :P lol that little kid was lowkey rude haha he just was like straight up no excuse me I am just going to go into the package lol Honestly it's super crazy the stark differences in pricing from what you experience in Japan, versus you visiting WDW I feel like a lot of people have talked about this ride being bad in terms of motion sickness, I would probably have to take Dramamine :o
You are a criminal for showing us that banana mochi! lol You had to also come and visit the US in the middle of inflated prices as well, lol :loudly_crying_face:
Omg those prices seem really high! Disney is really adding a big markup. I got similar miso soup in Finland at the store for about 4€ which is like 0.5€ per serving. And the noodles are also way cheaper, and we have 24% sales tax!
