Why you didn’t use fg or pr knot instead connect to a thicker nylon or fluorocarbon to measure the actual braking strength of the line and not the knot?

Because those are the knots that I normally use. The line is only as strong as its weakest part... Which in most cases would be the knot - regardless whether you tie them onto end tackles like swivels or on to leaders like flourocarbons.

@@x3mgrifter then with 60-70% are very weak! wada knot or PR could probably give a 100%

I have tried without using any knots on a couple of videos, and they still break way below their advertised break strength. It could be because they have more expensive machines or because manufacturers can control everything when they are testing their lines like how fast (or slow) they pull on the lines, room temp., pulling the lines in an absolute straight axis, etc. Or it could be because i received a faulty line? Who knows! I do encourage everyone to test their own lines so we can see if there are deviations between batches and/or places of manufacturing.

@@x3mgrifter in my experience I found Japanese made pe lines to be more precise with the stated breaking strength

So far there's only 2 lines I have tested that have either met or exceeded their advertised break test - Daiwa Sensor Monofil and Optima High Power Gum - and that's testing both with knots.

thank you. I'll try that next time. Tight lines!

So is this line garbage breaking at 33 lb instead of 50

    • @x3mgrifter

Not really garbage per se since all of the lines in this range practically are priced the same irrelevant of their break strength. So as long as you go over your desired break strength, then you should be ok.
