We can't change history, although America continues to tell an alternate sanitized version of it. But why doesn't Ms. Andersen address something more relevant: black on black gun violence right now? Or is that also a historically White problem too?
Slavery wasn't all that big of a deal in 1776. But conquering a lawless land, from indigenous peoples and Outlaws from other countries who wanted to take this land for themselves. Hunting was an integral part of survival over 200 years ago. The right to bear arms is long outdated. Possession is not. Men still hunt and their homes are r sometimes not all that safe. Law enforcement is a lot more local now and there are a lot less crimes than 200 years ago. I believe men have the right to own arms but gun control laws are absolutely necessary for the safety of all citizens.
I do not trust any politicians to pass any new gun laws that wouldn't restrict access to firearms for BIPOC and folks with less income. Republican governor of California , Ronald Reagan, signed the first gun laws to keep the Black Panthers from having guns.

Slavery wasn't all that big of a deal in 1776. But conquering a lawless land, from indigenous peoples and Outlaws from other countries who wanted to take this land for themselves. Hunting was an integral part of survival over 200 years ago. The right to bear arms is long outdated. Possession is not. Men still hunt and their homes are r sometimes not all that safe. Law enforcement is a lot more local now and there are a lot less crimes than 200 years ago. I believe men have the right to own arms but gun control laws are absolutely necessary for the safety of all citizens.
