“A Taste Of Soul”

I ascend to the skies with Spirits of Tuskegee…by the grace of God…and those who soared before me.
Men who broke down more than the barrier of sound…men of honor and dignity…men whose skin were various shades of brown.
American heroes, one and all….these were men of great courage and pride, who all answered the warriors call.
These were men who made their marks on battlefields and not instead of arenas and playing fields…they picked off enemies for men who thought they should be back home in cotton fields.
These were valiant men, men whose actions and heroism shall not be forgotten. Black pioneers of the throttle…they grabbed lightning and placed it in a bottle…these Airmen of Tuskegee, their Spirits soaring along side me…if not for them…I might not be.
So now as I prepare for takeoff and get the tower’s “A OKAY”…the sun is over my shoulder…there’s not a cloud in the sky.
I think of those Airmen…and
I begin to cry...those men who sacrificed their lives…the ones that paved the way…they opened up the doors for me…so I may soar today.
They earned those silver wings and their bars of gold…so set the records straight and get all their stories told.
The Airman from Tuskegee…they gave Aviation History…a little Taste Of Soul.
