    Well, pinoys are chill about this. If they don't want pinoy nurses because of finnish language skills, then we shouldn't. I don't understand why we need to send nurses there in the first place if that's their concern. Let the finnish solve their own nurse shortage problems then. I mean, if nurses want to work overseas, there are other countries to choose from. 😊

    Been working in the US as a nurse for several years, same thing. I have experienced racism from other nurses and patients. It isn’t ideal but it is the world we live in. No matter which country you go, whether it be the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Germany, Japan, Korea or the middle east, you will experience discrimination. Every overseas Filipino worker has lived this. To survive in a country that is not your own, Kelangan maging matatag at wag balat sibuyas. Don’t expect people to adapt to you, you need to adapt kasi andun ka sa bansa nila. When in Rome, be a Roman. Europe is overburdened with their refugee crisis and all the problems that come with it. Traditionally, left leaning governments are now veering towards the right, and along that policies and attitudes towards migration are becoming conservative. That is all over the world, not just Finland. Finland wants to reduce the number of refugees that come to their country but they are willing to increase and issue more work-based visas. The fact that the Finnish government are willing to open their country to Filipino nurses, means they recognize, as have so many countries before them, our competency as nurses and work ethics. Don’t go to any country thinking everything will be smooth sailing and without hardship. The most difficult thing to overcome when you move overseas is homesickness and overcoming the cultural barriers. Ika nga culture shock is real. You will meet a LOT of ignorant people, but don’t let that hamper you from achieving your dreams. Let it be an opportunity for you to represent our country well and educate them about why we are in demand all over the world. Apply Lang ng apply mga kapatid.

      @pearldans5640, yes you are right racism is everywhere but it does not mean you will tolerate the way those Fins to be looking down on pinoy nurses. I have lived in 3 different countries Middle East, Canada and now in the US and had worked in a bank, airline and hospital in the administrative level, modesty aside I have never experienced being seen or treated differently, because I speak my mind. No one in my 40 years overseas work experience have I encountered a co-worker or out of my workplace said to my face or commented negatively just because I'm from the Philippines. Perhaps behind my back maybe. I have a number of situations where I stood up for myself even at a younger age, first was in UAE, the General Manager of the Bank I worked, who happened to be an Englishman from Yorkshire when I overheard him mocking on a housemaid he spoke on the phone and he presumed a pinay, after he hung the phone I confronted him and said "excuse me sir, not all Filipinas does not know English or could not speak, how on earth did you know the person you spoke with was from the Philippines". Guess what, he apologized to me because he felt I was so furious about his ignorance, and later found out that the maid he spoke was from India. 2nd situation was two of my officemates British, an Auditor and the other Plant Engineer, that whenever I pass by they were looking at my legs and swamping me with their paperworks, so what I did to give them heck of their lives, I went and talk directly to our Regional Director and both were reprimanded and from then on they're afraid to give me paperworks and quit looking at my legs avoiding me. 3rd scenario, a British secretary of another department who gets more pay than I get despite the fact I was the one who trained her, what I did I approached the bank's CEO (same bank) and said "What does she know that I don't know, in fact I was the one who trained her",,, in an instant my pay $ got revised...4th scenario, a German Canadian lady about 5'8" tall and I am 4'11", she's a Lab Tech who tried to shut me up not wanting me to ask her about work, I raised my voice at her and said "so what?" and the next day I complained to her Supervisor, a few days later she became nice to me...and I have more scenarios but I might run out of space to type on. What I am saying is, it does not matter who they are where they came from, they are just like us who eats, poops, burp, fart etc...why would you let them belittle us. You are right, we adjust by learning their language but never let your guard down and let them do and say anything that may offend us. In my opinion, if its their country who sought help by hiring foreign nurses, then it is the responsibility of their government or their hospital administration to educate their people that the world does not evolve with their own only, if you open your door to someone it means you accept whatever they bring along with them. simple as that.

      Nowhere in my statement did I state Filipinos should tolerate racism, did I? I only said that racism is everywhere. It is the world we live in. As a matter of fact, you enumerated numerous instances from your personal experience which only further supported my premise above which is that EVERYWHERE YOU GO YOU WILL ENCOUNTER RACISM. Pero nasa applicante na yan, if they allow that to hinder their dreams of living and working abroad. READING COMPREHENSION PO. Mema lang eh.

    I wish the Philippines can someday be reasonably well-off, self-sufficient, & well-invested so that our people do not have migrate to far away places; separate from family & friends; leave the land & culture we embrace. Maybe this will be the century where Philippine industry can employ a majority of our people & the only reason to leave our country will be for travel & tour.

    True. We experienced racism in our workplace. Hi ndi nila ina-acknowledge ang educational system ng Pinas. So for them akala nila joke lang yung tinapos natin. Pero pag nurse ka lalabas at lalabas talaga skills mo when it is needed. Let them be. Pabayaan niyo sila kulang sa mga nurses. Kahit dito sa US kulang din ang mga nurses and in 2025 talagang malaki ang kakulangan ng mga nurses. Nurse din ako here in california. Im not sure kung nag iimport ang US ng nurses from the Philippines right now. Dami nga south koreans madali lang silang nagka greencard.

    It is unfortunate that some people equate language ability to competence. This is just ignorance. If they lack the manpower to care for their own people then having foreign health care workers, even nurses, is a win for them. The least their government should do is provide these workers with language courses until these reach a certain level of fluency. Most of the world don’t speak Finnish and the desire for people to learn that language is probably close to nil - save for these nurses who would leave their home countries to go to a country where they don’t speak the language and are not even welcome. They should be glad these nurses are willing to go there…. (Shaking my head in disbelief.)

I’ve noticed they never ever win Grand Prix Eurovision Song Contest because their language is terrible and not compatible to the music, you can’t make a song out of their language it might destroyed your ear drums. In my country NZ most of our nurses head overseas the same as our doctors, because America or Europe will pay our nurses a higher wage than our country can afford. So we have to bring in foreign workers to work in our hospitals. But I can tell you that as a patient who was looked after by the Philippines and Thai nurses, they are so friendly and kind, very happy to talk about their homeland and all the good things about their homeland. They are so good at their job their language skills are very good. So I'm so happy to have these people in my homeland to earn a living working here so thank you very much Philippines, Thailand and any other country that work here in New Zealand ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Filipino nurses are love in the USA because they are easy to work with and easy to talk to. They are dependable. For Filipino nurses, just learned to say NO when you don't want to pick up overtime.

It seems to me that the Finnish language is more difficult to learn compared to the German language. • @pagophilus
    @pagophilus ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Finns are introverts, Filipinos are conditioned into being extroverts even if they aren't so internally. Filipinos think they speak English well (they don't, they speak their own version of English with their own idioms, and understand it hyper-literally, whereas English is very non-literal), Finns generally do have good English skills, but in Finland, Finnish should be the language of health care, and it is extraordinarily difficult for foreigners to learn. Caring for someone using their third language and your second language is problematic.
    Basically, the cultural differences are even greater than, let's say, between Australia and the Philippines. At least Australians are used to seeing Filipino nurses.

    • @Finnspirational
      @Finnspirational  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comment. Of course Finnish must be the language in the health care in this country.And those who will work here should be really prepared for that. What was bothering was the comments were offensive, like Filipinos lack common sense and are inefficient.

    • @pagophilus
      @pagophilus ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Finnspirational Yes, those comments are not right. I work with Filipino nurses and most are knowledgeable and hard-working. The nursing courses in the Philippines are very good, though I think there is too much emphasis on rote learning (e.g. in the board exam, and the same goes for other professions) rather than practical skills in real-life situations. But they do have good skills and a good manner with patients.

    • @Finnspirational
      @Finnspirational  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pagophilus there is also difference in actual work. Here in Finland nurses work more independently, not every task relies on doctors' orders.

    • @pagophilus
      @pagophilus ปีที่แล้ว

      @ristovirtanen6396 So how would the Filipino nurse deal with typical quiet, introverted Finnish patients? Filipinos communicate almost exclusively verbally. There is no subtlety. Everything is verbalised and direct, and even when they try to convey messages non-verbally, through tone of voice or other gestures it comes across as non-genuine, because it is forced. It doesn't come naturally to them. They also like close proximity and touch, which Finns don't, preferring keeping distance. Think of the typical introverted behaviours of being silent and observing people, sensing what is going on and responding. Filipinos are, by way of their culture, incapable of that, unless introduced to it deliberately, and spending a lot of time in that environment. They are inclined to resort to words and lots of them. It's very difficult for them to "connect" with introverts, and then they get upset and think others are rude or racist because they don't interact with them the way they expect. It's difficult for people from very "social" cultures to adapt to quiet ones successfully.

    I have been a resident of Australia 🇦🇺 for 37 years & even here I’ve also came across some cases of racism but over time I learnt to stand my ground & showed that I’m also a tax payers as most & I’m no fool, maybe I’m quiet but I know I’m smarter more if not most of my colleagues & I worked my way in through hard work, common sense & good work ethics… now I’m respected & most of the time the “go person” to go to when things get a bit tough at work 🙏
    At least in Australia they are English spoken country, so it’s easier.
    I guess the issue there in Finland is yes the language barrier, Finnish is hard to learn.
    PS: talking about competency in medication 💊 yes Australia is English country, but also yes the most workers who made medications errors & mistakes are Australian & from other English country. I know coz one of my role is to check & fill incidents reports.
    So do not assume that if a person does not speak fluently as the other, it does not mean that they are incompetent.

      So true! Ako almost 27 years na din na nakatira sa US. Ang dapat malaman ng mga kababayan natin bago mag abroad ay maging confident at assertive. Hindi lang galing at dedikasyon sa trabaho ang kailangan. Tandaan na iba't ibang lahi ang makakatrabaho mo abroad at malakas ang politika at diskriminasyon doon. Kailangan din natin ipakita sa ibang lahi na palaban din tayo at hindi nagpapaapi. Kapag magaling ka sa trabaho mo at assertive ka pa ay rerespetuhin ka nila. Tungkol sa Finland, kung ayaw nila sa Pinoy nurses, eh di maghanap na lng mga bansa na welcome tayo. Hindi natin kawalan kung mababa ang tingin nila sa edukasyon natin. 🤣 I guess some love their country so much to the point that they refuse to accept that people from other countries can also get the job done. Not all have such mentality though.

    There are other places to go to where Filipino nurses are accepted, respected and welcomed. I worked in Kuwait for 8 years before coming to America.

      It's true. I've heard from someone that when his workmates heard that Filipinos were coming in their place to work, they were against the idea. But when they experienced how it was like to work with Filipinos, the Finns were pleased. Diligence can not be ignored, it is possible to learn any language. I am an example that it is possible, but the passion for helping others is something that is innate in a person, it is priceless and can't be taught. Thanks for your comment, I am happy for your success.

    Finns are showing their true colors. How can they be the jappiest people on earth if they have their hangups. Their happiness is an elusion. To me they sound more racist than any thing. If it starts getting to difficult, go somewhere else where you are appreciated with you professionalism or continue to help and care for them though your grace and kindness. Break there stereotypes and racism. Be there becon of light and show them how real Christians should act with love and acceptance. May God continue blessing you with a strong spirit of truth and happiness and may He soften the harden hearts of the finns towards others unjustly. Amen.

    Same here in Japan, language barrier is the main problem. The writing system and the grammar itself is so complicated. That's why its difficult to work here. As a matter of fact racism also exists here in Japan. And one of my Filipino colleage experienced it a couple of times. Walang kwenta ang effort mo dito sa Japan kung hindi ka marunong mag japanese. I think sa lahat ng countries ganito ang maeexperience natin pag hindi tayo mag aaral mabuti ng language nila.

    Those complainers are more of an “ idiots and stupids” because they CAN’T do what filipino nurses CAN do!! They posibly can only speak their language, do only one thing and does not have really what they are called “happy people”. Maybe those complainers are more “miserable” than others! Maybe they want more of those “less-knowledgeable” of other countries to hire other than filipino nurses!! Maybe those “complainers” just don’t like filipinos. We can’t do anything about that!! More countries love filipino nurses to work in their hospitals! In our State in the US, more than one- third are filipino nurses in all big hospitals and patients and families all LOVED them!!👍😍🇵🇭🇺🇸

      That’s true, people who constantly complain are miserable. As patients, Finns are quite low maintenance. Some are more open-minded than others. And there are some who lack class and write degrading comments. The younger generation in this country are not that interested in healthcare anymore. The recent trend is recruitment of caregivers from overseas and they study to get a practical nurse degree here in Finland.

    FEELING ng mga FINNISH ay MAY IBA SILANG PHYSIOLOGY & ANATOMY?... A GOOD Filipino NURSE can TALK through the EYES & can Sense & UNDERSTAND BODY LANGUAGE for communication... STANDARD naman na yang practice kasi karaniwang may manual at Nsg care plans. TRAINING for BECOMING a NURSE is FAR SUPERIOR in THE PHIL compared to the US too.

    On a professional level, is there some kind of basic language proficiency requirement? Some countries require it. I understand the concern because it’s a critical job. I wouldn’t take it personally.

    • @turpasauna

      There is. And most of the nurses who come here will work with the elderly who are very fragile, do not know/have forgotten English etc.

    • @Finnspirational
      @Finnspirational  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The language proficiency requirement is questionable if the foreign-hired nurses who passed it can only say a few words in Finnish. If the exam just covers days of the week, colors, greetings. That is insufficient for health care.
