The town's history dates back to ancient times, with traces of Phoenician and Roman settlements found in the area. Over the centuries, Rota has been influenced by various civilizations, including the Moors and Christians, leaving behind a fascinating blend of architectural styles and traditions.
One of the highlights of Rota is its historic city center, characterized by narrow streets, charming squares, and well-preserved buildings. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la O, a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, stands as a prominent landmark in the heart of the town. Visitors can also explore the ancient castle of Luna, which offers panoramic views of Rota and its surroundings.
Rota is particularly famous for its idyllic beaches. Playa de la Costilla, with its golden sand and calm waters, is a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. Additionally, the nearby Playa de la Ballena and Playa de Punta Candor provide ample opportunities for relaxation and water activities.

Lovely Beach side, walking tour so good
Beautiful town!!
About 5 years ago I met for a reunion with three of the guys I served with in Rota. We were sitting around with our wives, telling them stories of Rota. They were listening and enjoying our tales....one of my buddies said, "Man... You should have seen it in color!" 😁. Sadly he died last year. He would have loved seeing this video.
Oh man! I'm sorry to hear that! I'm seeing many navy Americans around town enjoying their free time, I think it's cool you guys get to do that. My wife is American so I love the mix here
Thank yoooouuuu!! That town holds my heart. So many good memories from Rota. I have to say though, after 50 years, the place has sure changed somewhat! 😉
Yeah! it's changing very fast nowdays
@@TeleportWalkers Back in 1974 when I first got there, it was just a small rural town. Nothing at all as modern as it is now. Donkey drawn straw carts were a common sight. As were the Guardia Civil, patrolling the streets with AK-47s slung over there shoulders.
@@TeleportWalkers Gypsies from Moracco were everywhere. They would come into the bars, selling their tapestries and packages of pistachios. Dirty, rough looking bunch.
@@ElevatedThreat Yeah, the whole Spain has modernized a lot since the beginning of democracy en 1978. But I think it's still kept the charm of old things.
No me gusta esto en absoluto; Desafortunadamente, todos los bares feos con turistas borrachos.
La mayoria de turistas en Rota son Sevillanos, y no suele haber mucho morrachos. Hay algunos americanos que trabajan en la base naval
