As the clock struck noon, the vibrant city of Seville shimmered under the blazing summer sun. From Alfalfa, a lively square tucked in the heart of the old town, I set off on my midday walk. The air was thick with the scent of oranges and the faint echo of flamenco guitar, while the cobblestone streets, worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, seemed to radiate the heat of the day.
Leaving Alfalfa, I navigated the narrow, winding streets, their ancient walls painted in sun-baked hues of ochre and terracotta. The streets were lined with tapas bars and small shops, their doors flung open to reveal tantalizing glimpses of cool interiors, shaded from the relentless sun.
As I approached Puerta de la Carne, the remnants of the ancient city gate, I paused to take in the blend of old and new that characterized this part of Seville. Modern cafes and traditional eateries stood side by side, and the buzz of conversation and clinking glasses created a lively, welcoming atmosphere. The cool mist from strategically placed water sprays provided a momentary relief from the oppressive heat as I crossed into the Santa Cruz neighborhood.
Continuing my journey, I ventured deeper into the neighborhood, finding the Murillo Gardens. The lush greenery and shaded pathways provided a welcome escape from the sun, and I strolled leisurely along, listening to the rustle of leaves and the occasional chirp of a bird. As I emerged from the gardens, the imposing Alcázar palace loomed ahead, its walls a testament to Seville's rich Moorish heritage.
The Santa Cruz barrio, once the Jewish quarter, unfolded before me like a labyrinth of narrow lanes and hidden plazas. Here, the streets were a patchwork of shadows cast by the overhanging buildings, and the air was filled with the scent of jasmine and bougainvillea. Wandering through this historic area, I marveled at the intricate ironwork of the balconies and the colorful tiles that adorned the buildings.
Each corner turned revealed a new discovery: a secluded courtyard with a bubbling fountain, a small chapel with its doors invitingly open, or a charming square shaded by ancient trees. I found myself in Plaza de Doña Elvira, a picturesque square lined with orange trees and vibrant flowerbeds. The white-washed houses with their wrought-iron balconies and the distant sound of water trickling from a fountain created a tranquil oasis, a stark contrast to the bustling streets I had just left behind.
As the afternoon stretched on, I made my way towards the Cathedral of Seville. The Giralda tower rose majestically against the azure sky, a symbol of the city’s enduring history. The streets around the cathedral buzzed with life, street performers entertaining passersby and vendors selling refreshing horchata and churros.

I had to unsubscribe even though I want to follow your channel; you have published one or more shorts, I refuse the way in which youtube presents this content, it is a cognitive attack inspired by tik tok: non-respect of the chronological order, no information from the author of the video if we do not watch it, no publication date, no duration, intrusive display mixed with normal videos, format unsuitable for the computer. So I unsubscribe from any channel that publishes shorts. (I could use a short blocker if I was using Firefox, these shorts are such a nuisance that there are extensions to block them). This is a commercial trap, please understand, it is not made for this type of content.
I understand. I agree with you in every word, and I was very hesitant to post this only one short I posted. Just today it happened that I decided to do a little short for instagram, FB and twiter, and I decided to posted on TH-cam just to see. I probably not gonna keep doing it because I don't really have the time to be editing, as you can see, my videos are very raw. Well, if you subscribe again you will not see more of these shorts
@@TeleportWalkers As long as there is only one short on the channel, even an old one, it often appears first as recent content on the list of subscriber videos, which is why I unsubscribe from any channel that publishes short films : it only takes one to permanently disrupt the interface. I subscribe when I don't see the "shorts" tab on the channel menu. If too many channels give in to the temptation of shorts, I would follow using bookmarks, or with a browser that has a blocker like Firefox, but Firefox works less well than my old version of Chrome... I think that few people are as radical as me, but the shorts are still disturbing, it's because of the way TH-cam works which is designed to impose them, otherwise, it would only be a bonus that we watch if we only wants... friendly!
@@JeanThevenet That is weird that it would show first. In my subscriptions wall, shorts appear all grouped in a single row, on the 3rd row, which is easy to ignore. They used to be all mixed up with the regular videos which I hated, and I used to delete them one by one from the feed to have a clean regular subscription feed but no anymore. Anyways, hopefully you like my videos and they will show up on your in your home feed☺
@@TeleportWalkers Yes, they may have modified depending on the browser version or the geographical area, we don't all see the same thing on TH-cam, on the 3rd line it still bothers me because I look beyond it, but I boycott all way the short format. More and more I circumvent these cognitive attacks by using bookmarks. I have greatly reduced my browsing on TH-cam since they introduced the shorts, not only for reasons of ergonomics, but of degradation of content associated with more impulsive use perhaps favored by this smartphone format, or social networks in general. I also reject any channel that adds the “subscribe” tag in videos. I am autistic, I protect myself from certain stimuli. However, I look for videos that allow me to see and listen to landscapes, it allows me to travel virtually. Thanks for what you do.

Thank you!!! You finally gave us old veterans a sight of the Main Gate to the Base... Such a memorable sight. I've been through that gate so so many times. I see the taxi station is still there, where it was 50 years ago... Only they are now white cars... Back then it was the box shaped, black SEAT (pronounced "see-ott") cars. Rota holds so many memories for me. Thank you for this walking tour!!

@@TeleportWalkers I remember, we (the personnel in my squadron) knew that Franco had died, minutes after he passed. We were ordered to not speak a single word if it, outside our squadron, until Spain could install Juan Carlos. Even the people of Spain didn't know yet. That has always stuck in my mind, as to the mechanics of how politics works. It felt uneasy for me to carry that secret, even for the short time it took for the Spanish government to prepare for the announcement.
That was in the Fall of 75 as I recall. Can't remember exactly.

About 5 years ago I met for a reunion with three of the guys I served with in Rota. We were sitting around with our wives, telling them stories of Rota. They were listening and enjoying our tales....one of my buddies said, "Man... You should have seen it in color!" 😁. Sadly he died last year. He would have loved seeing this video.

@@TeleportWalkers Back in 1974 when I first got there, it was just a small rural town. Nothing at all as modern as it is now. Donkey drawn straw carts were a common sight. As were the Guardia Civil, patrolling the streets with AK-47s slung over there shoulders.
@@TeleportWalkers Gypsies from Moracco were everywhere. They would come into the bars, selling their tapestries and packages of pistachios. Dirty, rough looking bunch.
