I do enjoy The Warning, as well as Pink Floyd, Yes, TOOL, King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, and many others that compose songs in the 9-12 minute category. What I don't enjoy are comments that are thinly veiled passive/aggressive insults. I also enjoy Nightwish and many other symphonic metal bands. Telling me I have a 3 minute attention span is not an opinion - it is a dog, I matter how you try to hide it to make yourself look superior. No offense, that's my opinion. Thank you.

@@ThePentagenarian I understand that you liked some aspects of the song . And I appreciate your honest reaction but you said 15 or 2 0 times that it was to long. That was your only reason for not liking it.
But that's ok this band is not one of my favorites either.
But please always be you and don't bow down to the fans of this band or any other band.

@@ThePentagenarian you seemed bored through most of it, and reinforced that by rather frequently checking the time (“are we there yet?”). I appreciate the honesty of that actually. I dislike reaction channels that pretend to love everything they hear. Music just doesn’t work that way. It’s perfectly fine for you to think the song was too long, you don’t have to share my opinion that it’s the perfect length :)
Ayreon fan here. No need to apologize at all. And props for the honest reaction and recognising the talent involved. I totally get that those long tracks aren't for everyone.
As others have said, it is not really music for the day to day playlist, but more one album at a time to get the whole story of the album.
Always be yourself and keep that honesty. It's refreshing to see someone who doesn't hype up every track they react to. 👍

There is so much talent here it is mind boggling.
It's extra long because it's the album's opener, and introduces all the singers (characters) in the story.
While I understand that, I have never read a book or seen an Opera where it was a necessity to do that. It is a bold concept and props for that, it just didn't land for me.

@@ThePentagenarian Greetings from Scotland. Ayreon is not my favourite either. Any interest I have in this music begins and ends with Floor Jansen. On the subject of overtures however - and this is essentially an overture as it introduces the rest of the piece - operatic overtures can routinely run anywhere between 4 and 16 minutes. It's not the time that bothers me about this but rather that it's just kind of nerdy run of the mill prog which sounds like it has been beamed in from the 70s albeit with some fantastic musicians performing it. Keep up the good work though.
Thx for the honest reaction. Why pretend you like it if you don’t. There’s a lot of different music out there to listen to. Even with Ayreon, there are shorter songs and I think you’ll find one you‘ll like.

yes all the singers were lead singers in their own bands ranging from Dream Theater Epica Kamlet and Blind Guardian to Nightwish Symphony X and Circus Maximus.@@ThePentagenarian
This is one of the longest songs, a lot more ,are what you might consider , normal length, hope you will consider another track. Personally, I love this song, it doesn't seem like 13 minutes to me, but to each their own.
Ayreon is a prog rock/metal opera project of Dutch musician Arjen Anthony Lucassen (the tall hippie dude, lol). He writes the songs and invites guest singers and musicians to perform. It's mostly a studio project , but they have put together a few live shows. He writes concept albums, telling a story across multiple records. This is first track from the 2017 album, The Source, which is the first chronologically in the story arc. Each vocalist sings a character.
One of the people that work with Arjen often is Sir Joost van den Broek, a musician and producer himself, seen here on grand piano. Keyboardist in After Forever (04-09) with Floor, played with and produced ReVamp(Floor's band before Nightwish), and has produced many bands, including Blind Guardian and the last 3 EPICA albums. He does a lot of work on the live Ayreon shows too.
The binary that Mike Mills is singing translates to 'Trust TH-1', TH for his band Toehider. His character is a machine.

This show is a best of Ayreon and another of Arjen's projects ,Star One.

@@frank1963 Hey Frank.👏 Almost all I write new. This one I have the vocalist list and a very small bit saved, type up the rest. usually takes , at least, the whole reaction to do it. Still type with 2 fingers mostly lol
@@chriso6719 well that’s admirable, and still pretty quick, I type with two fingers, or actually one on my phone, and it would take me a lot longer than just one song even if it is 13 minutes. 😜

I'm surprised but I get it - I can usually only give a new song about 20 seconds to interest me or its on to the next one. But this song keeps my attention precisely because, to me, it has so much distinctiveness and variation. I guess it just shows how music affects people in different ways.

@@ThePentagenarian I also think that song is awesome as well but it is over 12 minuets long. It is a live track so that may help. In my opinion it is a better overall song than The Day That The World Breaks Down but that is my opinion only.
I just love this kind of music but taste is taste.
For me the length of individual tracks on a concept album is immaterial - as I'm listening to the entire album majority of the time.
I appreciate that tastes and also requirements are different when delivering reaction videos.
Never apoligize on a personal opinion. I am very happy though that you respect the difference between quality and quantity. One can be appreciative of the quality and even hating the song.
That being said, lengthwise this is indeed an outlieer. The bulk of his work contains 'normal' lengths. Generally people direct you to a live concert from here, usually the song : everybody dies.th-cam.com/video/9AAXtUdM7xE/w-d-xo.html . Listning to your comments, this will be much more to your liking. Interesting about the live concerts is that some performers are replaced with others, simply because of logistics. The replacements however are well chosen, usually outside mainstream artists. And as we all know; there is a lot of great talent out there that we are not aware of.
Appreciate your honesty. You stated at the beginning that it had an uphill battle to fight out of the gate. Yes there are shorter songs by Ayreon out there which you would enjoy, especially the live versions and you will most definitely get tons of requests.
Knowing your dissatisfaction with longer songs, I would just suggest screening them based onto length.
While this is a reaction channel there s no need to constantly subject yourself to things you are going to dislike? We all have likes, dislikes and bias built in so again thank you for trying it.
I will be checking out more from Ayreon. I have a strange relationship with long songs. LOL. My own personal favorite band has songs that average 7-9 minutes long and my own personal favorites from them are actually on par with this one.
Most Ayreon songs are not this long, the entire Electric Castle and Universe live shows are on TH-cam and most songs are of a more normal length, plus his music is very varied with many classic rock/metal influences, so I would suggest giving Ayreon another shot. I fun more traditional song may be Intergalactic Space Crusaders, especially if you like female vocalists with an awesome rock voice.

No need to apologize. I love Ayreon but it doesn't go on my playlist; I either listen to a whole album or nothing at all since all the songs are part of the same story/concept. It's hard to just pluck out a song and not want to listen to the next one. As others have said, this is the intro song for the album and the rest are much shorter. The next longest on this album is 7 minutes, with most between 4 and 5 minutes. A more energetic song from this album is "Everybody Dies," which is probably the second-most reacted to video (live version) after this one.
All that said, don't feel bad if you still end up not liking the shorter tracks. As metalheads, we are quite used to people not liking the same stuff we like!

Not sure I understand. I can't see the difference between listening to a long song or a concert, Album or play list where you hear several songs one after the other. It's a shame because you will miss out on some fabulous music. For instance Nightwish's songs Poet and the Pendulum (14 min) and The Greatest Show On Earth (20+ mins) are incredible and you will never hear them and that would be a great pity. Still, keep on listening there is good music around for everyone.
I love when people use the 3 minute mark... Love the Nightwish tunes... Love old Genesis and think "The Lamb Lays Down on Broadway" is brilliant. THIS is the song that the majority of people recommended - so I listened to it. Perhaps if I had listened to other tracks of their first, it would be a different story.
@@ThePentagenarian It's recommended because it lays out the foundation of the album, like the first chapter of a book. The other songs are not so long. Check out Everybody dies live (Ayreon Universe) it's the next chapter of the story.
I kept drifting off during the 13 minutes - yes, it was too long. Not enough variation so it turned into a meditative experience than a listening piece.

Being a prog rock fan long songs are not an issue with me. I love Suppers ready by Genesis and that track is 23:06 long. Sometimes to tell a story you need a little bit more than 3 minuets. Also since music is subjective not everyone is going to like what I like. What a strange world it would be if everyone liked the same music.
Yeah I understand... Its would be amazing 11 songs... But its "bad" and "long" together... Make sense for youtuber, whose job is to listen to it.

Ah yes... Please refer to the time stamp where I said it was "bad". That word never crossed my lips. I simply said it did not connect with me. I also explained why.
In addition , MY JOB is keeping million dollar pieces of machinery running. This I do for fun. I do not monetize.
It is a very strange world indeed when someone places words into another person's mouth because they don't love the music they love in a spiteful and passive/ aggressive manner.
In the future, perhaps attempting to belittle a person who does something out of pure enjoyment of music should be tempered by listening closely to the amount of praise that same person gave to the musicians and vocalists in a piece that did not resonate with him/her.

I am not saying you have to like it, I just don't understand how TH-camrs keep complaining about longer songs than 5 mins all the time. Its your "job", you do it for money, whatever big or small, so I think its little hypocritical.
Its absolutely ok if you dont like the songs itself, but complaining about the time is weird for me. Song can be 20 sec long and it sucks or it can be 28 mins long and it is amazing. So time if irrelevant, at least for me.

Many of the great progressive and symphonic rock and metal songs are way over five minutes long.
You’ll get used to it.
My favorite bands are King Crimson, Yes, early Genesis, TOOL, and Fields of the Nephilim.... I am quite used to it. The difference is that the music that introduced me to these bands were the 5-9 minutes tracks. This was the song that everyone told me to react to... I will be reacting to others because, as stated, the talent here is next level.
To long if you expect a quick metal turn on! Sorry to say, but with this you lost me as a subscriber - not because you did´nt like the peace - but because you showed me that you cant take your time to listen to masterpieces, which cant be done in 5 minutes.
Sorry to hear that. Especially since I enjoy many bands that have lengthy songs. My favorite band, in fact has two songs I listen to as favorites that clock in over 13 minutes, The difference is that this is the first song I listened to of theirs and had no other exposure to them. I did that because many people asked me to. Believe me, if I am going to try to turn any one to my favorite band, I would not do it with one of their longest tracks as the first song to listen to. Aeryon will be reacted to again on the channel, and maybe after I warm up to them, I will have a greater appreciation for this song.
