Thank you, I’ve always wanted to visit Eyam since I read a book about it and the plague.
You should! Great place!
My maternal ancestors came from Eyam. Sometime after the plague they left and moved to Sheffield, opening the Three Merry Lads public house.
I just found out about Eyam and the plague that took place there, and you just posted this video, perfect timing :)
Ah great stuff! Thank you for watching it means a lot!
Darbyshire
We loved our recent trip to Eyam 👍 great video
Was there this weekend. Beautiful place
Well said Susan - it definitely is!
Nice walkthrough! It brought back memories of my time doing research there. Too bad you missed the well.
Next time!
Nice
So nice
I am guessing the brick walled cottages were built in the 14th century?
You may be right - it's definitely an old village this one
Is any of the cottages still there
DIANE Quelch yes it’s all still there to see and explore 👍
Hi mate how u doing where is this eyam then
Hi mate! It's in Derbyshire near Hathersage and Hope and not far from Bakewell
Is it so busy there because of the Plague History ?
It’s definitely a factor teah
at last some where that i have been this year dont live that far from there
There's more Eyam and stuff from around that area coming up on the channel Mick 👍
Hol' on hol' on -so we have to assume Eyam was the only place in uk
that got batch of infected clothing ????Surely other places must have
recieved infected clothing aswell - and if they must have -why only
Eyam badly affected???
That’s actually a really good question - I’d never thought of that 🤣🤣
Go to The Museum and find out :-)
Other places for sure had ‘infected cloth’ or had folk who had caught The Plague. The notable thing about Eyam was that in 1665/66 the residents quarantined themselves within the village boundary for approx 15 months and as a result about 1/3 of pop died (260-ish died). This was a selfless act in an effort to contain the disease and save spread of Plague to surrounding villages and area......
@@NICKGAR7 Thank you!
@@NICKGAR7 But the paradox is other places (i mean far outside of london)didn't self isolate - and yet there appears to be no spread ?
A bit of commentary would be good.
I don’t do commentary on my channel ❤️
@@GimbalWalkTV I did enjoy your video but it's such a shame you don't do the commentary. I've been to Eyam and the history is fantastic, I just think it would have been a good addition. Thanks for your reply 🙂
@@mrsmercury2565 I agree but I’m too shy as.I don’t think anyone would want to listen to me talking
I will try it and see if it works in my next video ❤️❤️
@@GimbalWalkTV oh no, I disagree. I'd have loved to have listened to commentary on your video, especially as we could compare the plague with this bloody Corona virus we have now.
I get what you mean about being shy though, I hate hearing my own voice but if you are knowledgeable about the place just imagine it to be like a talking postcard that you're keeping for yourself in the future, or if you have a partner or friend ask them to do it. Maybe you could add commentary after you've filmed it. Haven't I got lots of ideas for someone who can't even walk the length of a football pitch 🤣🤣🤣
I appreciate just listening to what's happening around town as you walk-
Pronounced 'Eeem'.
True!
