I loved this movie and if you want an opinion of someone who's been hospitalized many, many times, we absolutely need more doctor's like Patch and more people willing to lighten hearts around illness and death. We all are going to die and I'd rather go out laughing than crying. If the younger generations don't get a grip on everything being a microaggression or everything someone says, even if clearly lighthearted or a joke to make people laugh, especially sick and dying people, they're fated for a sad life indeed.

My dad was dying and (I work in care) made fun of him all the time, my dad loved it god bless him. You can laugh in the face of tragedy

Nobody says you can't. But this goes far beyond that.

the movie makes the true story seem like a sweet treat. Williams pretty much admitted he was forced to do it. Adams was locked in an asylum willingly . He was the one who changed his name to Patch to stay locked up longer, threatened suicide multiple times and just pretty much tormented the actual patience . Someone watched him and wrote it down, by that times he was considered a new age doctors and allowed to practice pranks on the dying . Real doctors would be forced to study under him. Still to this day people praise him for popping balloons over half dead peoples heads and forcing elderly people to stomp around in pudding . The only true part in the movie is based on the female lead.
