  • Join us for this video series going over the basics of Starlink for RVers, boaters and nomads. This first part goes over what makes LEO (low earth orbit) Starlink different from old school geostationary satellite. And then we dive into the pros and cons of using Starlink in an RV or boat environment - from congestion, obstructions, power usage and more.
Be sure to catch the other two videos in this series going over Data Plans and Equipment.

One other "pro" would be it can be used with 12 volt power source.

Not officially it can't - that requires modifications that void the warranty.

@@MobileInternetResourceCenter Can I hook it up to a LiFePo4 battery using an inverter?

I can find out pretty much everything else you’ve told us, but I need to know just how MUCH clear sky I need to use Starlink reliably. If I can lock onto a satellite over there, does that mean all is well and it will lock onto the next one automatically when it gets there? Right now I can have a huge canopy of trees around me, but if I can lock onto a satellite in that one little clearing in the sky I’m golden, and if not…well, too bad buddy. I haven’t seen anyone properly describe this with Skylink.

The satellites are constantly moving and each is in its own orbit. It's not as simple as locking into one location like you would with geostationary. You need a pretty significant wide open view of the sky (you can use their obstruction finder app to see what is needed) to get service without frequent drop outs.

I prefer the T-Mobile Gateway router service. $30 per month and speeds up to 500mg download is perfect. No hardware to buy and no contract.

That's a great option, however it'll only work where there is T-Mobile signal. Starlink is for when there is no cellular signal. So they generally complement each other for RVers and boaters.

No, We love the the TREES and the beaches, And way too expensive. And every month they change things, and the pricing, Things are changing too much. Best place to use is in the desert.
