I Built this tree for the Golden State Warriors

  • #Warriors #Sculpture #woodworking. In collaboration with Sports and the Arts, and the Golden State Warriors, I created a one of a kind wall relief sculpture for the players and coaching staff. This sculpture is permanently displayed in the Chase Center, just outside the team's locker room. The Warriors wanted a sculpture that payed homage to their roots in Oakland while incorporating phrases, words and accomplishments meaningful to the team.
This Warriors sculpture spans over 8 feet long and 5 ft tall. It uses premium basketball leather and English Walnut. The lettering was CNC'ed, then using the smallest cobblers nails secured into the sculpture.
This sculpture was over a year in the making. I ended up making 3 sculptures for this because I was dissatisfied with the first two ( I only showed the first one in this video). There were lots of ups, downs and learning along the way but it is these challenges that make it more rewarding in the end. I I am extremely happy with how this sculpture turned out and cannot thank everybody that helped me along the way.
Huge thanks to Alex Reynaud from Under the water woodworks @underthewaterwoodworks, and Mark McCollough and his three boys Diego, Skylar and Jett.

when i saw the first version, even before the black cornering i knew it was looking bad..and i was like oh god, how will he save this.. i know scrapping it had to hurt , but it was the right decision and the finished piece was worth it

Man 18K subs?? That’s it?! My man... you are so deserving and so talented you deserve to have millions of people see your work. This sculpture is an absolute piece of artwork a true masterpiece. The walnut lining you did, the trimming, the letters. I cannot be bothered with such tedious work. Even the masking would make me want to quit. The fact it took a year and having to start fresh after 2 months of work is insane. I would have quit haha but YOURE a true artist. A true master with sculpting and building. Love the video and I can’t wait to see more of your absolutely amazing work man.

Awesome job! It's a beautiful piece and your attention to detail paid off. It's calming to see effort put into pieces and understand that someone took their time and cared about the final results. I can really appreciate that. You truly did an awesome job AND you didn't glue the letters, you painstaking nailed each one! Impressive. Thanks for sharing.

I feel your pain. There's nothing worse than thinking you've got the technique worked out, something goes awry, and you have to start from scratch. Been there, done that. Too bad that black rubber piping doesn't come in a 3/16" extruded L that you could have simply contact cemented in place. But... that unhappy accident gave way to the really beautiful walnut veneer trim so... win? Yes! WIN! Nice work. Though many may not notice it, YOU know the attention to detail and craft that goes into a job well done and there is NOTHING like the self-satisfaction of doing such a beautiful and perfect job.

That sculpture looked stunning and so gracefully mounted on the wall........ U r super cool and talented... More so.... Very strong willed and convinced of your own capabilities, qualities and outcome, thats what made u destroy the first one and outdo on the second one, coz u know ur benchmarks and u know exactly what you give out to the client for them to come back to you over and over.... Super talented and an again, an amazing art peice..... And how can I not acknowledge that one thing about you.....! You're Hot hot hot....🙈😍😘😋😎

After I've seen this, I knew it was worth it to subscribe.
Being a dubs fan, I took for granted that tree when it's being shown on live broadcasts. I could see that it's amazing but it gets crazier to think that the process wasn't that miraculously easy. Seems fated to happen as the Warriors also scrapped a season and started anew and still took another season to finally get back to the "Top of the NBA World" as Mike Breen said on last year's finals win.
Your creations are also Tops, and your concentration and dedication are topnotch, on par with SC30 on the court or even better 😉..
Love your works, I've been showing it to my fam and they're also amazed.
    Keep it up, Sir Blake!

On one hand what a hardship to have to scrap all that effort for the first one. That turned out to be a blessing, as had the piping looked good, the over all would not looked as good as the finished one.
We learn as much, or more, from out mistakes as our successes. Your dedication, skill and patience is phenomenal! Creating something meaningful that will stand as a tribute for your lifetime and beyond must be a great feeling.

Advice: Next time, have an adhesive paper laid on the back of the wood to be cut as letters before the laser cuts them. This way you can peel and stick the letters verses making a thousand drill holes and securing by nails.

More ironic if it'd been in an "attention to detail" affirmation or something 🙂

Man that black border looked janky. But when you said you were gonna scrap everything and start from scratch my heart sank. Can only imagine how you felt. Nice result in the end.

Boom! Trashed it! I was coming to comment how janky it was looking when he scrapped it. Major props! How much of art is trial and error resulting in happy accidents. Yeah painful but final version soooooo worth it
