I think who paid for the marriage notice was Mr. Briggs who called Anne "Gentleman Jack"as she left the shareholders meeting.

I never will understand why Lister would not take Ann to Paris to live. they could have run the businesses from there easily. And why the hell did she keep going down ti the riverbanks in Georgia. it must have been to find gold. what a shame

I think in the (very) end they had been made to run away. Ann Walker was not well and Halifax had not accepted them. At least that’s what I could see from the diaries.
