i'm a lawyer and this is my daily notebook for work since 2016. Had to change the battery once only. For the type of work i do on it (mostly text editing), it's the GOAT. And i LOVE the keyboard ngl.
Guys just go for the 2019 model, it’s way better, no butterfly keyboard, NO FLEXGATE(that affect 2016-2017 models), better performance and they support natively sonoma. Have i to add anything more?
Iirc, only the 16 inch removed the butterfly keyboard for the 2019 model year. All 2020 models didn’t have butterfly keyboards but I’m pretty sure most 2019 models have it. Granted, they have a revised design that’s less prone to failure, but they’re still butterfly keys with barely any travel.
The two biggest issues with 2016 Macbook Pro's, both 13 and 15". Terrible butterfly keyboard and flexgate issues. Losing backlight when the backlight flex cable breaks, and it will trust me.
I mean I have that problem that the flex cable is broke and some time when its getting hot or im going to bend the screen then the back light goes out. (still use that MacBook) and I really love the butterfly keyboard I just think its nice but the is some keys that the keyboard light is like so bright like the (t) the light is so bright I don't know why but yeah I still love this MacBook Pro all the money I put in this laptop 💻and the Touch Bar is the best for me its just fun I don't know why but it just looks nice and i can play some games and that is nice just a 2 screen it not that bad
I bought the 2016 model in the same year and I still have it , its a great laptop. I had the same issue for my screen it went all black after 2 or 3 years, apple told me it was a manufacturing diffect for the 2016 model and they fixed for free, they replaced my whole laptop lid to a new one . now am not sure if they will still do it.
I got a MBP 2018 with the butterfly keyboard and I know what you mean. Once a single key is messed up, you can not replace that single key, you would have to replace the whole keyboard and Apple charges you like $500 for it. Other places could do for $250-$300. And I saw some videos where some guys could replace the individual keys. From this experience I would avoid 2016-2019 MBP with the butterfly keyboard.
They actually had a recall program where you can get the screen fixed and keyboard fixed and battery replaced for the 2016 Touch Bar version. Mine were all fixed and is working great today! KEY though:: stay on Catalina! It’s the fastest for the laptop. Anything newer will lag.
Very common to have everything but the motherboard and bottom plate replaced on these models by Apple for $0 under repair programs for screen (ribbon cable) and top case (battery/keyboard). Even after buying this as a bit of a Lemon, I'd not hesitate to buy a new macbook.
I've had a base model 2016 15 inch MBP since two months after launch, and it has been more than enough for my daily computer activities, and for my amateur photo/video editing, it has been stellar. I've recently got the 15 inch MB Air, and its great, and is much faster, and more efficient with photo/video editing, although it does my same tasks a little faster, to me it seems negligible. I would very much so still recommend a 2016 MBP to anyone looking for their first mac laptop, or to someone who doesn't want to spend $1000+ on a brand new mac laptop, this MBP is still more than capable.
The qualities of Macbook Pro are top notch. I'm still using my Macbook pro mid 2012 15inch. Even though it can't use well for 3D Game Development with Unity (still doable for 2D game development) but it is still good for programming, especially for web development. There is no other laptops from 2012 which can still work like that. Macbook Pro is awesome.

I found that there are what they call "lower half" version of this MacBook Pro on Taobao. What "lower half" means is that it is this laptop without the screen. It is probably supposed to be sold as parts but the seller said that it can actually be powered on and use together with a monitor. I'm a bit skeptical but for about USD120, I may just give it a go. It would be like a Mac Mini living inside a keyboard case.

Thats not a good buy. Flaxgate and Dustgate model which means every year after production it will have higher chances you will get one of these issues. Not mentioning keyboard issues which are inevitable because 1st gen had no anticorrosive coating on key domes.
With the release of the m3 macbooks. In my opinion, you could just save up and spend a few hundred more for the m1 macbook air. I am seeing them around $700 now. I think the price might slip a bit more as well. Also, Apple might stop supporting their older models with software updates since the Apple silicone is their pride and joy now. The other main thing would be portable power. The M chips last a long time. This is from someone coming from a 2012 macbook pro. Older Macbooks are still capable machines but if you want long battery life and better performance then the M chip Macbooks are the way to go.
It gets hot, fan screams from basic tasks which really sucks especially compared to cheaper 2021 M1 air Battery life not great, battery dies after ~1000 cycles so expect replacement every 2-3yrs Whole topcase replacement for $$$$ required for a new battery, repair program so paid $0 Screen ribbon cables fail, requires whole screen replacement $$$$, repair program so paid $0 Butterfly keyboards constantly jamming from small debris, if you're unlucky you break a key and the pop off. MacOS updates take quite a while until they stop, You can guarantee that you can update that machine until MacOS Monterey. I use MacOS Monterey on a 2015 15inch Macbook pro and it works great
Very interesting, the MacBook Pro has its pros and cons. For me, the great advantage is the appearance, but the big disadvantage are the hardware problems. I am currently thinking about buying a laptop, and I was wondering between a MacBook and a Chromebook Cloud Gaming. Also maybe you could record material about the system itself, etc. It would be especially worth showing what are the possibilities of using for something more, I mean emulation after work 😅

It is probably supposed to be sold as parts but the seller said that it can actually be powered on and use together with a monitor. I'm a bit skeptical but for about USD120, I may just give it a go. It would be like a Mac Mini living inside a keyboard case.
Great review I’m getting one today
I have a 2016 15" model with the upgraded graphics and its been very good aside from the 1 display failure.
do you use after effects on it?
And you're using Catalina right? I got a 2018 15 inch macbook pro and Ventura makes it lag. I think I'm going back to either Catalina or Big Sur. The design is magnificent. I come from a 2012 unibody. Also, I don't understand all the hate the butterfly keyboard has received... It really isn't that bad. The design of this Mac remains the best of it's kind.
The hate for the keyboard came from the fact that had reliability issues (Apple literally had a program to change keyboard pretty much for free)
i’ve just bought the 2016 13 inch macbook pro with touch bar for university. i payed £450 for it. I hope ive made the right choice as i wanted something that’s good enough for doing course work on microsoft word and surfing the web. i’m not interested in all this video editing 3D web development nonsense i just want a laptop for writing essays and doing research. Can anyone tell me whether i’ve made the right choice
I have a 2017 15 MBP. i love it
Using MBP 2017 13in Touchbar 512gb and still more than usable. The only gripe would be that its not anymore upgradable to macOS Sonoma
You can use open core legacy to upgrade to Sonoma.
I just got a MacBook Pro 2017 with Touch Bar, 1TB SSD, 16gb RAM, and a i7 processor, i got it for 380$, you guys think i should keep it? i think its a good mac to this year, i just use it to navigate and see youtube and stuff like that
380 dollars only ??? damn keep it. I bought the 2016 model in its same year and still have it
i have one aswell and it has held up better than my expectations but recently the screen randomly stops displaying like the backlight still works but the screen just displays black and i couldn't find why that might be
I just got one through ebay auction same spec for 292.. not horrible but excited for the i7 and 16gb over my current 2014 mbp 8gb ram with the i5
Thank you I just got one off the Facebook market place for $140 in pristine condition so I got a sweet deal
There's a reason the 2015 model commands more money on eBay, they're still around $450 to $500 for a good one
Well those also have the amd r9 graphics. I found quite a few 2015 15 inch macbook pros for around 300$ with 16gb and a 512gb ssd
@@KavanettOwO yes it's the one with the dedicated graphics card that command the money. And I bought one off back market for $395 it was classified as "excellent" condition and when it arrived, I honestly could not find the nick or scratch on it. In fact if you wrapped it in original Apple packaging and handed it to somebody they would be convinced they're opening a brand new MacBook Pro. I could not be happier.
Thats not a good buy. Flaxgate and Dustgate model which means every year after production it will have higher chances you will get one of these issues. Not mentioning keyboard issues which are inevitable because 1st gen had no anticorrosive coating on key domes.
Americans are so lucky, they call a 7 year laptop "old". Im a software dev in africa, I make apps, and I use a 2011 Macbook Pro.
I got this one for $590 really good deal imo!
I already have it.
Its amazing
Good luck with the Flexgate !
nice i did the same too i bought 2018 macbook pro and dualboot windows on it and am loving it 😍😁
I'm sure it's been well worth it!
That's one of the reasons why I am bought 2018 model as well
Good review 👍 I have the same model and I am very happy with performance.
OK, but why are not closing your notifications?
You Shouldve got 2017 macbook pro to have mac os ventura. Now you have to use patches to update it.
I’m thinking of getting 2017 macbook pro, Kinnda scared of the sound of fan. Is there a fan sound ? 👀
@@yasgaming.1 Yeah, depending on what you're doing the fan will kick in and it does get pretty loud.
thanks got MacBook Air instead
@@wasabimane
With the release of the m3 macbooks. In my opinion, you could just save up and spend a few hundred more for the m1 macbook air. I am seeing them around $700 now. I think the price might slip a bit more as well. Also, Apple might stop supporting their older models with software updates since the Apple silicone is their pride and joy now. The other main thing would be portable power. The M chips last a long time. This is from someone coming from a 2012 macbook pro. Older Macbooks are still capable machines but if you want long battery life and better performance then the M chip Macbooks are the way to go.
Are you still using it and also is it good for normal tasks and does it perform good in terms os battery ?
Yes, I still use it. It is great for normal tasks. However, the battery life isn’t so great anymore on this unit.
Beautiful review my man
i have the a1707 touchbar, did you trie bootcamp? cant get t1 features to work in windows... primarily i need ttouchbar functions..
Hey! what mic are you using? I'm getting into content creation and that mic sounds really good.
is that true that the keyboard is crap? Have someone’s keyboard stopped working or started not to receive all the inputs while writing fast?
Have you been asleep for the past decade?
you tryna beef on the comment secion of video like this??? 😂 ur sleeping dawg@@ArthropodSpidey
the 2016 Macbook pro has a design flaw called flexgate, you should have gotten another
as of today adobe premiere pro is not working well. any suggestion?
It gets hot, fan screams from basic tasks which really sucks especially compared to cheaper 2021 M1 air
Battery life not great, battery dies after ~1000 cycles so expect replacement every 2-3yrs
Whole topcase replacement for $$$$ required for a new battery, repair program so paid $0
Screen ribbon cables fail, requires whole screen replacement $$$$, repair program so paid $0
Butterfly keyboards constantly jamming from small debris, if you're unlucky you break a key and the pop off. Apple repaired for $0
IMHO this model was a bit of a lemon, but it's 7yrs old and Apple stood by their product with free repairs so no hesitation to upgrade to another macbook soon 👍
just bought one the baseline version (no Touch Bar) os Monterey, but no signal on connection to HDMI anybody know workaround to fix it?
Is it good for fist Mac I am a windows user and I have a good windows laptop I just wanna buy a Mac for just fun and Maybe if I like Mac I’ll buy a MacBook Pro 16 6 or 7 months later what do you think about this MacBooks from 2016 to 2018
My only problem is that people were saying keyboards are so broke and after even 2 months it get broken
recommendations for iphone 4k 60fps video editing mostly projects under 5 mins or less, m1 macbook air or 16 inches i9 or 16 inches i7 2019, screen size does keeps me leaning towards the mbp16 but with the m1 mba how much performance am i getting if the dont go for the 16 inches for my kind of workflow, will it heat for my kind of workflow
i need advice should i buy pro 2015 16gb or 2017 8gb with touch bar? so confused
please someone help me to choose :)
If you care about typing experience... 2015 all the way. Best MacBook ever.
is it good for lightroom editing? i mean a lot of photos at once
Want to know about battery video playback time
I have m1 air 2020 16gb 512 ssd.
It is a great laptop but the screen to small.
I put an order for 2018 15 in MacBook pro.

the only reason I don't use a 2016 macbook pro is bc of the butterfly keyboard
They didn't remove the touchbar they still make it for the 13inch
I need help so guys there is 2016 macbook pro with 16 ram 6 gpu i7 6th gen and 15 inch and 1t space also there is 2018 macbook model which has 512 space 16 ram 1.5 gpu 8th i7 and its 13 inch i need jt for programing and editing videos so i want to know whice one is better also i need to know if 2018 display is better or not
This was and continued to be terrible advice. No matter how decent the specs are for the money the keyboard WILL break and the screen WILL die, it’s just a question of when and I’d rather use that money towards something more recent…
As someone who has a 2016 MacBook pro, i love it regardless of any design problems
How bout for designing performance? Can someone explains
I got the 2018 15 inch with the 6 core i7 and the 2016 13 inch. I also just purchased 3 Mac Pro 2013 "trash cans" and upgraded them to the 12 Core Xeon CPU and 64 GB of Ram. They're actually almost as fast as the M1 Pro Mac Studio and outperform the M1 in graphics.
wow!
Would you recommend a refurbished macbook pro 2017 16GB 512GB in 2023? Do you still get updates? Since I've never had an apple pc would that be a good idea?
MacOS updates take quite a while until they stop, You can guarantee that you can update that machine until MacOS Monterey. I use MacOS Monterey on a 2015 15inch Macbook pro and it works great
Very interesting, the MacBook Pro has its pros and cons. For me, the great advantage is the appearance, but the big disadvantage are the hardware problems. I am currently thinking about buying a laptop, and I was wondering between a MacBook and a Chromebook Cloud Gaming. Also maybe you could record material about the system itself, etc. It would be especially worth showing what are the possibilities of using for something more, I mean emulation after work 😅
That's fair. I can definitely give that a try for the next video.
Is it overheat when you using browser like TH-cam?
This model is has the most design flaws ever. Issues with keyboard and screen that apple refuses to acknowledge and recall. I just end up with broken one
They actually had a recall program where you can get the screen fixed and keyboard fixed and battery replaced for the 2016 Touch Bar version. Mine were all fixed and is working great today! KEY though:: stay on Catalina! It’s the fastest for the laptop. Anything newer will lag.
@@Ericjeffrey28 now they have another issue with it. They've placed the display controller just next to the heatsink so if it heats up your screen goes black. They do not acknowledge this design flaw and refuse to fix it. Really not a good laptop to recommend
I have a question Will I get ban for signing in with my account on a modded psvita?
I am a student and I need a MacBook for school. Do you recommend this MacBook or should I get another MacBook?
If you can Try to get a M1 macbook (2020-up) if its in your budget, I just purchased a 2020 mbp with an intel i7, 24gb of ram and a 512gb ssd for like 480ish, its gonna be used mainly for school work since their battery life is well known I'll have to see for myself since this is gonna be my first mac ever
@@Pr.2104 thanks a lot! I’ll keep that in mind. 😊
do you still use it?
thinking of getting this for programming and slight graphis design just ps & illustrator what do you think?
@@user-mm4kh6tg8u save up and get a M1 instead
I have the 2016 15" MBP. It is the worst Mac I have ever owned. Because of this laptop I am seriously considering abandoning the Mac after 20+ years as a Apple guy because of this Macbook. I hate the keyboard, heats up, designed where it collects so much dust.... This one was a giant step backward. There just so many issues. It still gets me trough, but I don't know. Those new Apple Silicone Macs do look interesting and when the time comes I will consider them but just as another player.
What a terrible decision, especially since you bought a paperweight as every MacBook prior to 2017 is EOL.
This is one of the worst laptop builds Apple ever designed.
Flexgate issues, butterfly keys and the infamous Radeon 450-455-460 cards that bricks the entire logicboard.
I prefer MacBook ..I look for security .Windows sucks for security
Flexgate issue is coming your way 😏
I have a MacBook Pro 2016 15". I've been working on it for more than 6 years, and it still works without any flexgate issues. I just replaced the battery; that's all. :)
in Mexico this macbook pro 2016 15'' is selling for around 600 usd in amazon refurbished... ir worths? i want it for musical production and just for an indie game lol
Oh God, I hated this laptop with a passion
I dated your mom with a passion
Macs last and last and last.
I am selling my 15.4" 512gb SSD, 16gb RAM with Monterey OS for $400 if anyone is interested.
Everything is fine but the keyboard is so bad
Stop the drugs bro its not good
This guy didnt come into the overheating issue??? Mine overheated when just browsing and youtube. I have no idea how he's editing
It is strange. And it's not justified at all. It has the non-updated Butterfly keyboard and Apple stopped the keyboard replacement program. Intel chips won't be getting software or security updates soon. Good luck.
