    Do any of these sound like mistakes you might make in your first year? Or maybe you retired early and already made your own mistakes...!

  • @GoWithLess
    @GoWithLess 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Our early retirement was almost 5 years before we started our nomadic life since we had one daughter left at home. I cannot imagine retiring and hitting the road the same day! We agree 100% about over-planning. Guilty!!! So glad to be part of a community with you both. ❤️❤️❤️

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It truly goes against our nature to NOT plan. We used to plan our vacations a year in advance. Now we often don't have our next Airbnb booked until just a couple weeks before we need to move. Really makes our heads spin!! Fortunately now we have a great community of nomads who are all in the same boat. 😂

    Love the attitude of gratitude. What I got right was retiring as soon as I could on 1 Oct 2020, and learning to go with the flow due to Covid. There are actual silver linings despite the adversity. There are always things to be grateful for! Thanks for another great video.

    Thanks for more great content! I am an overplanner too but isn't planning is half the fun! So it is 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon and I am sitting in my home office working...ugh! I had to take a break to get some FIRE motivation. Right now my job is particularily trying. I'm totally stressed out, can't sleep, drinking way too much caffeine, having trouble focusing, in general, just miserable. So this has solidified my decision to FIRE when this project ends in mid May!

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations on making this huge decision! 🎉 A few years ago I was right where you are today....stressed out and missing every weekend because I couldn't walk away from my computer. Making the decision to FIRE was the best thing I ever did and now it's so wonderful to own my own time. I'm wishing you the same!

    I just found your channel, and I loved this video! You articulated a lot of things that I have been thinking about for my own retirement this December. I'll only have 2 weeks of downtime with family before leaving on a 7-month adventure, but my first 2 months will be in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where I can relax before the rest of the trip. I also started my TH-cam channel last year, when I thought I would be retiring in December 2020, because I wanted to be sure to have something to do (a project). Because of the pandemic, I worked another year and was able to put more money away for a rainy day.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a great plan! Chiang Mai is an amazing place to kick off your retirement. You'll certainly have an opportunity for lots of decompressing there! And well done for working the extra year since the world is locked down anyway. We're looking forward to hear more about your upcoming adventures! 😊

    This was a great video. A former colleague told me to do nothing 6 months when I retired. Six months gazing at the Puget Sound helped us figure out what we wanted to say YES to. 18 months in, I still over plan a bit. But by doing so, I locked in some great COVID rental rates through 2023. And we found new homes for our cats. I envy you your dogs. I thought about a blog or TH-cam channel but that just felt like too much work. Kudos to you both. We are nearly twice your ages but share many of the same attitudes. Grateful for every day.

      So great that you took the time to figure out what you wanted -- and then you went for it! 😊 We also continue to be guilty of overplanning! But we find that living the nomad lifestyle is pretty complicated so a little extra planning really helps.

    I was a bit nervous to retire in winter and during Covid, but I think it is working out well. The weather and virus has given me that down time to decompress. If I had waited until summer I think I might have rushed into projects too quickly as well. Now I am relaxed and ready to begin investigating new hobbies. That first day you had sounded nightmarish!!! No wonder you slept for 2 weeks 🤣🤣🤣

    Another great video!! I absolutely agree with the over planning. After wasting many return air flights over the years, I now only travel with one way tickets. Plans change, the world changes, and it is very difficult to predict where you will end up. (just google proof of return ticket travel- solutions for onward tickets, if only using one way tickets into a country). The cost of one way tickets is also much affordable than in the past. Book your first two nights at a new destination, then look around. This past year has certainly taught us the value of freedom.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 ปีที่แล้ว
