God the reaction of Penelope and Antonio to the win is so sweet. They were all friends for 20 years at this point (well, Antonio was at least), and they were happy that he got it. That is the meaning of true friendship.

En el 2003 a Salma Hayek le hicieron la mala jugada, presentó la misma categoría donde estaba nominada , el crimen del padre Amaro y no fue la ganadoras..😭
no siempre ganan los que presentan, Penélope ya presentó la nominación a mejor película extranjera y estaba nominado una película de Pedro Almodovar también y ganó Parasites de Corea del Sur. Lo mismo pasó con Sofía Vergara que tenía una película colombiana nominada y no ganó.
El rostro de Salma reflejó la sorpresa porque se tenía la idea de que estaba entre el Padre Amaro y la movie de Finlandia. No fue 'mala jugada', nadie sabía que película iba a ganar. Saludos.

So disrespectful, putting that awful elevator 'music' over Pedro 's speech. Really, AMPAS, get your act together; I just watched a clip of the Best Costume Design clip from 1990 (where some numbskull thought _6_ + minutes of dancers in costumes from the nominated films was in good taste. In a word, atrocious). Yet, Mr Almodovar has to suffer the indignity of being played off the stage in maybe one of the greatest moments of his career.
People are always debating the winners of these things. Who deserved it, who didn't. Well, in my opinion, for continuing this disgraceful practice AMPAS has of pushing winners off stage when they haven't even been given more than a minute to begin with, while putting _in_ kitschy boring & endless dance numbers (remember the dancing Oskar Schindler?)..., I think it 's the Oscars that don't deserve someone of Pedro Almodovar's caliber and great humour.
Penelope's "Pedro!" reminds me of S.Loren's "Roberto!"
Penelope is no Sophia though.

English is not her first language - she is not asked to speak it properly. The majority of English speakers knows nothing more than his own language, and even when he can say some words in another language, his accent is monstrous. Penelope, other than Spanish, speaks Italian beautifully.

@Kung Fu Creo que un director de cine no tiene porque ser políglota ya que su arte es visual, sin embargo un político... No creo que el ejemplo en cuestión sea adecuado. Aparte, Almodóvar es uno de los mejores directores de cine de la historia actual de españa y no por no saber inglés para poder recibir un premio va a dejar de ser un gran artista.

Qué gran momento en la historia del cine español: por fin Pedro.
Pedro Almodóvar es de los mejores cineastas, no solo español, sino del mundo. Aunque confieso que "Todo sobre mi madre" (1999) no es la película suya que considero la mejor ("Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios" (1988) y "Volver" (2006) fueron mucho mejores en mi opinión), sí cuenta con un guion espectacular, actuaciones magníficas y una dirección maravillosa.
A casi 13 años de su triunfo, me emociona muchísimo ver este video.

There was no way the Academy didn't know that Pedro was going to win, having those two presenting. Much like when Scorsese was presented his Oscar by Coppola, De Palma, Lucas, and Spielberg.
It was definitely the overwhelming favourite that year so it seemed like an easy decision on the producer's part. Funnily enough they got Penelope to present the Oscar to Parasite (also an overwhelming favourite) which was nominated alongside Pain & Glory which of course she starred in.

Me hace gracia lo de mucho para la gente de España, como si saliéramos beneficiados porque él gane el Oscar, encima habiendo oído que en España las películas son subvencionados por el gobierno de dinero público, imaginándome que será por el rollo que nos cuentan de ser cultura. Pues muy bien, que sea toda la cultura que quieran pero que las financien la propias productoras porque, luego ir al cine cuesta dinero así que no lo entiendo. También es cultura y patrimonio lo que yace en las excavaciones y cuando uno tiene que hacer una obra y precisa de una excavación, hay que hacer un. Estudio arqueológico costeándolo uno mismo y, lo que se saque, evidentemente va a patrimonio y después a exhibirlo en un museo. Todo esto que me voy enterando con los años me demuestra el país tan abusivo e injusto en el que he nacido y vivo de cuál en muchas ocasiones me avergüenzo, como por ejemplo, esta del cine

What is he saying and in what language is he speaking!??! Kidding. I adore his films. I think i saw him once in the subway in berlin during berlinale time. He was standing in a corner by himself, dressed very black and down, no bag, nothing. But that face and that hairdo. I was so starstruck, I stared at him for 4 stations long and then he left the train. He saw my look and kinda stared back with a questionmark. I should ve been like Pé: "P E D R O !"

You must have not seen any of his films prior to 1988 then..... He is amazingly funny.
Actually I have. Not all writers and directors are funny both on paper and in person. Perfect examples: Joel and Ethan Coen.
Pedro is more than just a director though...In the 80's he and his friend McNamara acted in his films and they both even recorded a hilarious album full of (Spanish) puns and amazing comedic timing! Remember his cameo in "What have I done to deserve this?"! The comedic timing was impeccable! If you understand Spanish I recommend you seek out these recordings.
