  • A superb trip to the Republic of Ireland. Spearfishing in Ireland is still relatively new, although there are a few pretty good divers shooting some exceptional fish. The average size of the fish is much bigger than in the UK, and there are different species present such as Bluefin Tuna and Amberjack.
    Marks are absolutely wild, often very remote, with little evidence of commercial fishing. I shot a number of excellent Pollock and some nice Bass & Mullet, including a new personal best taken in the shallows which unfortunately I didn't capture on video.
    Thanks to Andy Clear for hosting me and showing me around, really appreciated it and we had some amazing dives together!
    If you enjoy the video like and subscribe, it really helps me out

    Love your channel mate. Favourite spear fishing vids on youtube. Love the way you film them and talk us through your process and what your thinking on the dive. Thank you for not having some over shot intro with dramatic music!!! keep up the good work. Cheers

      Really glad you enjoy the style of the videos, I do think a lot of people on here try to oversell their videos with lots of fancy editing rather than being informative! Best to keep it simple and focus on the diving

    Great Vid, Joe. I went to southern Ireland last year and it was the clearest water I'd ever been in. And I didn't bring my kit with me!! So, a return trip is planned!

      So good there isn't it, even in massive swells there's plenty of vis, will definately be back next season

    Glad to to see you had a good trip to Ireland... the swell is always present and has been getting steadily more constant over the last 10 - 20 years. Guessing you were a little further south form where we are here in Sligo (north west) Bass are very rarely seen up here... as a newbie to spearfishing its great to see how you guys get on. I often give up when the vis is bad and its a little cut up, having watched this video I'll perseverea bit longer on the trip out....

      Was really impressed by the diving off Ireland, was off the southern side. What's the Northern area like? Have heard the vis is very good. Am planning another trip next summer for 2-3 weeks and looking for different places to go

    amazing. love the video. We are heading to NW Ireland with our gear - spears and surfboards. Quick question? You dive alone?

    • @jackmetcalfe8542
      @jackmetcalfe8542  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes usually alone. Unless you’re properly buddied up your dive partner isn’t going to save you anyway - and the most divers there are in the water the less fish you’ll see

    I've just got into spearfishing admittedly in the carribean where visibility is 20 odd metres. But I'm from the south where you were shooting and when I move home I want to keep it up... this is my invitation to free accommodation and we can use my boat when I'm home if you want... All I want in return is lessons 😆

      Sounds good to me! Add me on Instagram (jack_metcalfe_3) I’ll be in Ireland in July, hopefully we can get out for a few dives
      Just got back from Thailand/Indonesia, 29 degree water and up to 30m vis, so easy to dive deeper there!

    Your video's are actually kind of therapeutic. I guess because there's no drama in your voice and the underwater world is fairly serene. I'd love to try the same, but unfortunately badly damaged my eardrum snorkeling in Faliraki, Rhodes back in the late 80's and I'm in agony after 7-8' under.

      Being deep underwater is really calming, it doesen't matter how stressed you are from anything else in life, once you go beneath the surface everything feels good. Even if you don't dive it's possible to shoot excellent fish, have had all my biggest Bass whilst snorkelling in very shallow water

      @@joelfildes5544 Ok so my next video will probably be about hunting Bass off the Llyn, have seen unreal numbers of them however they're concentrated in very specific spots. Huge numbers of Garfish too. Are you diving or line fishing?

      @@joelfildes5544 I’ve been to a few of the popular marks and they’ve been barren this year, hit a lot of new ground and focused on the areas with strong current and structure, will explain the process of locating the fish in those areas in the next video, do you think that’d be useful?

    Hi mate I'm trying to go spearfishing in Ireland do you know any good spots ?

    • @jackmetcalfe8542
      @jackmetcalfe8542  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally I was finding Bass in VERY shallow water amongst boulders/kelp and Pollock in areas with steep drop offs & current
      I'd hesitate to reccomend any particular spots as I've only dived each mark once, the area I was in was the SE corner near Waterford/Wexford, however I've heard the West coast is even better
