      Canada has band all medication that has any sort of antibiotic in it, I use aquarium salt and if needed for internal parasites I use garlic guard and most times this works but I have never had to deal with camallanus worms.

    Here’s my issue with being Canadian, they have banned all medications so how do people here in Canada get rid of this parasite? And what are some more signs of this parasite?

      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I wish I had a better answer for you but I really don’t know 😰 Maybe a veterinarian can prescribe you something? Other than the red worms, the fish may stop eating or sit on the bottom or the aquarium. May have a sunken stomach too.

    • @corineskipper1919

      They will group together and sit motionless ... less movement in tank .. in fact hardly any .. was my first sign

      I found some in brands that ship here, but I’m not sure if it’s a scam yet or not. I feel the same way. Everything is banned, even the pesticides that get rid of thrips in plants, parasites in aquariums, it’s insane

    Best of luck Anthony, I’ve been battling a few problems recently too, specifically some dropsy, lost my two golden rams to it. Your video about kanamycin really helped me a lot.

    These are the most horrible, disgusting, nasty worms in the world. I had them in an Oscar, then cross contamination and lost a Betta. I finally got rid of them so I purchased my 'bucket list fish' - a pair of Betta Macrostomas and guess what... camallanus worms I am now treating all 12 tanks just in case.

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ugh that’s the worst man! Literally worse case scenario! People who’ve never had camallanus don’t truly know how terrible, dangerous, and nerve racking they can be! I’m going to end up treating all the tanks too once I monitor them a little more

    O damn man !!! Thats how I was introduced to u when I got it years ago it wiped out all my angels!! I ended up using dog dewormer with the fen benzoyl or however you spell it . But I had to crush em up and and make like a slurry and soaked their food in it and add it to the water and it worked after I lost 5 koi angels! Good luck buddy

    I just lost my battle pretty much to these worms so I guess all I can do now is start over. Do you think that bleach will kill them 100%? I always use it to disinfect but these things are hardy. Then again bleach is supposed to kill 99.9% of germs so idk. Do you think it’ll work? Should I throw it all away including the decor?

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you bleach everything you should be good to go! Make sure you disinfect all of your equipment as well!

    Do any of your commenters know what this looks like in guppies? I have a female with a bulging vent and the only thing I can find is this video and a few sources online that speak of "red worm parasites" -I have fought about 2 cases of dropsy unsuccessfully and now currently treating for ich (I have treated ich successfully before) with heat,salt,and some kordon's rapid cure that fixes the ich but the bulging vent has me very concerned!!!! Can someone give me some tips or advice?

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for subscribing! Unfortunately General Cure will have no effect on these parasites. You’ll need to use something like levamisole or fenbendazole to get rid of these parasites! They’re a resilient parasite, but nothing we can’t handle! 👍🏼💪🏼

    Buy a big thing of paracleanse from aquarium coop and use it on all new fish and on these tanks here.

    • @masond337
      @masond337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Paracleanse uses metronidazole and prazinquantal which most strains of camallanus worms are completely immune to sadly

    I’m so so sad. I thought my female balloon Molly was pregnant. My other Molly is an orange male, so I saw the worms protruding from her butt and thought it was a fry fin that was just stuck. But I’m almost positive by now since she hasn’t birthed anything that it’s calamanus worms. She hasn’t died and she’s very active and eats a lot, but I know it’s fate and I’m so sad for her

    Have you tried General cure for parasites

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I quarantine all of my fish for a minimum of 4 weeks. I treat them all with bacterial and fungal medication as well as General Cure, which contains both metro and prazi. Neither of those are effective to these specific parasites 😥

    • @manansala2oh1
      @manansala2oh1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thought you quarantine everything

    • @LongIslandFishGuy
      @LongIslandFishGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do! For a minimum of 4 weeks and the fish get treated with external and internal meds. Only thing that can kill or handle the camallanus are levamisole or fenbendazole, neither of which are in my current QT process (for now) and the worms can take 3-6 weeks to actually show in the fish’s vent. Typically by the time you see the red worms, the infestation is pretty bad for the fish.
