sterjs Jet exhaust can’t Disintegrate anyone, you’ll get severely burned if the engine was running for some time but It wouldn’t harm them since the jet was just turned on an the engine was still relatively cool.
They did this for years and years. Was there right at this spot in '95. Not sure if they still do, but they would literally post the departure and arrival times on a sign nearby so you could watch the landings (very impressive as they go soooo low) and the takeoffs. Most all the jets produced a decent blast, but of course the real thrill was watching the 747 takeoff. Unfortunately, the last 747 flight was in October of 2016, and you can't see one landing or taking off there anymore. But it's still an amazing place to watch any plane land.
@@rampar77 Technically speaking.. yes.. if you were right behind one of the engines. But there a couple of differences. First, the 777 operates differently at St. Maarten. The 747 would hold position right at the end of the runway, spooling up all four engines blasting right at the fence. The 777 only has two engines, but more importantly for this situation, they don't hold and spool up.. they begin their roll, adding power and then taking off, so that by the time they are completely spooled up, they are already some distance down the runway.
Alex Jamieson yes it can. As an AP Physics and AP Physiology student, a single fart can be powerful enough to change the direction of the Earth's spin if one tries hard enough.
It's a miracle at all that planes this large can Land and Take off from an island as small as St Maarten. People get blown away because they watch the planes take of right by the fence.
"people get blown away because they watch the planes take off right by the fence" thanks for clearing that up Sandra. I never would've known that after watching this video...
KLM does not fly a 747 in there anymore. Reason is the plane is too heavy with loaded fuel tanks to take off. The runway is not long enough. When the 747 took off it had 1/2 full tanks and they flew to another island to refuel to make it back to Europe. KLM now uses a more fuel efficient Airbus to fly in and out. It can take off from that runway fully loaded and can go non-stop back to Europe. But it does not change the fact that it is very foolish to stand that close to jet blast. I read a few people die each year doing that. Very foolish.
@@kevinstill1069 They are literally on the fecking beach??? where else are they going to stand? The plane is too close to them, not the other way round. Are you married to Sandra?
In 2017, a woman was killed after a blast from the jet that was taking off. The police have countless reports of severe injuries caused by the jet's blast. Many tourists from around the world go to St Maateen to watch the Jets take off, and a young girl was blown into a concrete wall from the blast. Regardless of the warning signs, people still take a risk to stand behind the jet as it takes off.
It’s not engines that provide the lift. Then, what creates the lift? *How does the Bernoulli principle relate to flight?* Air moving over the curved upper surface of the wing will travel faster and thus produce less pressure than the slower air moving across the flatter underside of the wing. This difference in pressure creates lift which is a force of flight that is caused by the imbalance of high and low pressures.
I’ve been there and done this! It’s amazing! Our driver said when he was a kid that they used to let them hold on to the fence and when the jet took off they would ‘fly’ like Superman. 😂😂
Yes, I lived there in 2004 / 2005 / 2006 and I saw (grown up) people do that; holding the fence with their hands while their feet were in the air 😂 looked like fun
Hi doc I got an issue. (what seems to be the problem) yeah my eye it really hurts (what were you doing) while I was standing on the beach behind a jet, some sand hit me in the eye .
I’ve experienced the KLM 747 flight from that airport and gooooooood loooooooord does that engine throw sand!! I recommend all aviation enthusiasts visit Maho Beach and Princess Julianna Airport. Truly an unreal experience.
@@rogerioaraujo5001 Yes, Boeing is an American manufacturer. Airbus is from Europe - they get their wings from Spain, fuselage (body) and electronics from Germany, and all pieces are assembled in France.
You do know that a woman was killed in 2017 by the jet blast. She was hanging on to the fence but the jet blast was too much for her. She lost her grip and was blown away. She hit a cement barrier and died.
For anyone wondering "technical" you are not supposed to do this but people still do it Anyway there are warning sign all over telling you not to. People are stupid, they are told not to stand there! A woman just died because she was grabbing the fence and she fell and her head hit the paviment...
There are signs to stay off the fence. They don't stop you from getting behind the plane on the beach though. I did it when an, I think, MD80 was taking off. Stung a bit, but I just crouched down and waited it out. Bunch of stuff and people got blown back into the water but no one was hurt, and everyone was laughing. It was a good time, and an experience I am glad I get to say I had.

🤣
They did this for years and years. Was there right at this spot in '95. Not sure if they still do, but they would literally post the departure and arrival times on a sign nearby so you could watch the landings (very impressive as they go soooo low) and the takeoffs. Most all the jets produced a decent blast, but of course the real thrill was watching the 747 takeoff. Unfortunately, the last 747 flight was in October of 2016, and you can't see one landing or taking off there anymore. But it's still an amazing place to watch any plane land.
They definitely still do it.
I am sure the 777 with the largest engines has the stringer blast.
@@rampar77 Another KAREN is 'pretty sure' folks.. That's ALL we need to know right there...

"people get blown away because they watch the planes take off right by the fence"
thanks for clearing that up Sandra.

They all had a BLAST !!!
Hey, people still run with the bulls every year.
It's still amazing to me how those JT4D engines can pick that huge thing up off the ground.
All of KLM's 747-400s are powered by the GE CF6 engines, not JT4Ds.
@M H not partly a result of forward movement that’s the only thing that creates the lift, it’s all to do with forward movement
55000 pounds of thrust x 4!!!
It’s not engines that provide the lift. Then, what creates the lift?
*How does the Bernoulli principle relate to flight?*
Air moving over the curved upper surface of the wing will travel faster and thus produce less pressure than the slower air moving across the flatter underside of the wing. This difference in pressure creates lift which is a force of flight that is caused by the imbalance of high and low pressures.
